how much did u pay for your home (new/resale)?
TYM replied to crayon's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
Have not even got my keys yet so never thought of selling. One step at a time... -
Do not plan to install a hood for my new place as we do not foresee we will do a lot of cooking. However, would still want to leave the option of fixing one should it become necessary in future. What are the things i need to take note of when planning for the kitchen so that a hood can be install in future with minimal fuss? Or is it just as easy as buy one and fix it? Tks.

Nice nice, especially the LEDs. But does it mean that the switches are always in "standby mode", i.e. they will be consuming electricity even when switch off to light the LEDs.

New Punggol Loft Units
TYM replied to chew@PPLe's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
Read from newspaper that the walls in the units are build using new type of special materials (less reliance on cement) that supposely will "cool" ur house and that they are "hollow". Dun know is it "hollow" as in those partitions in offices. Ya, would rather get a unit in those good location. Location still important. -
Thats quite a lot of time and effort to put up your mural, not sure if i will do it. Btw, I like the wallpaper from your MBR.

Looks like have no choice but to have some sort of a partition. Bay windows in the bedrooms, living room full height windows. Care to elaborate on the "something" i need to do?

Sometime, there are just too many conflicting/different instructions and interpretations from different FSM. Sometime dun know who to listen or whether to listen or not. !!

Nice flowers design you have there on the wall. Are they from Wink? Did you design and paint them yourself? Is it difficult to do it? My gf interested to get them also. Sorry for asking so many ques at one go.

Below is my floor plan. Plan to put my dining table just next to kitchen. Although from the main door will go past living room first then reach my dining room, but will still be able to see the dining table straight from the corridor, is this no good.? Dun really want to put any partition as feel that this wll make the house look smaller.

Biometric (finger Print) Lock Group Purchase
TYM replied to lukecas's topic in Electronics & Electricals
What does it means when it says "9v battery could be used to recharge the lock from outside whenever it is neccessary"? When is it necessary to charge? "The fingerprint reader is made of extra hard glass to prevent scratches". What happens if there are many scratches? Will it still recognise my fingerprint? -
There are many brands under the Novena Group. If it is just the basic Novena brand, personally I dun like the designs. Quality wise not sure cos never bought anything from them before. My gf and me prefer the more modern designs from Funktion, Lush, XZQT (over-priced thou), OM, Massimo, Lifestory, Molecule ETC. After visiting their showrooms, my gf "lost interest" in Novena, Brighton, The Green etc.

Noted from Cellini website that the Manhattan is for LCD TV up to 50". Not sure what is the size of the LCD TV in the pic. With a 37", afraid it may look quite empty. Anyway, awaiting your pics. Tks.

The Ceiling Fan Debate
TYM replied to reload72's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Ceiling fan is a must for me in our hot tropical weather. Normal standing fan are just not good enough to cool down the house. Not going for anything fancy, just the old trusted brand of KDK, maybe with remote control. -
Read in the U-weekly mag fengshui section the following about shoe cabinet design. Shoes are best placed near the door, not in other parts of the house like bedroom. Cos shoes come into contact with the 5 elements (gold, wood, water, fire & earth ) when worn outside, theroefore a bit messy.Placing shoes in the house other than near the door will bring the bad "qi" right into the house, affecting the occupants. But for shoes that are not worn out or for internal use only, it is ok to place in any part of the house. It was also mentioned that in fengshui, shoe cabinet design is the most ideal when it is 5 racks high, symbolising balance and harmony of the 5 elements. But for cabinets that are less than 5 racks high, it is also ok cos shoes natural element is Earth, ok to be nearer to ground. Placing shoes too high will cause the person wearing it to sprain or trip when walking (believe it or not). Further to being 5 racks high, every rack should place no more than 5 pair of shoes, again this symbolises the balance and harmony of the 5 elements. Placing of the shoe cabinet is also important. A person in a desk-bound job (Southeast) and one who is require to put in certain amount of labour in his job (*) will have different placement of their shoe cabinet. This position need not be changed annually. The tip of the shoes should be pointing inwards. Else when opening the cabinet, the tip will be pointing towards you, no good. Over time, it will affect your health. Just sharing what I have read.

Hi Mr Chong, new to the forum and read some of your advice. I will be getting my keys sometime in May. Have gotten a date for "Dong tu" but it is just before the lunar 7th month. Intend to "dong tu" first, break during 7th month and resume reno once 7th month is over, is this ok? Is it important to get a date to open door cos missed out this part? If so, may have to go back to consult for dates again. Below is my floorplan and need your advice on my intentions. Intend to hack down abt 1/2 the wall btw MBR and BR3. The other half to breakdown until about 1m from the floor as intend to place bed head against this wall. Based on my measurement, some part of the bed head will under the bay window. The wardrobe will be built along the wall facing the bed, L-shaped, is this ok? Also intend to seal up the door to MBR, leaving access to MBR thru door to BR3, is this ok? BBR3 will be used for study and probably reading corner. As for kitchen, intend to breakdown about 1/2 to 2/3 of the wall as intend to place washing machine behind the wall and create a small washing area.

Whatever it is, dun get PVC leather. You will sweat after seating on it for a while, and then feel sticky. Not a nice feeling for yourself and your guests. Like the sofa designs by Funktion and Lush. Still deciding on which one to get thou. Massimo sofas are nice but a bit too bulky for my place. Anybody bought anything from above, especially Funktion and Lush, care to share on their quality, services etc.

Contrary to popular belief, putting electrical applicances on standby mode actually is one of the culprit for energy consumption/wastage. Read in a recent newspaper article that it can add abt 10-15% to your monthly electrical bills. So it pays to switch off the power completely when not in use. As for me, will be using only energy saving lights bulbs (no no to incandescent bulbs) for my coming house. Will not be installing air-con as I am a bit allergic to air-con, so will save quite a bit. No dryers for me too as they are "one of the big time electricity suckers". Anyway perferred clothes to be hanged dry naturally as clothes dried in dryers tend to have one kind of smell. Switch off my wireless router when not in use as the plug/console can get pretty hot, think that is power wastage also. Switch off lights when not in use for a while, but not to the extend of switching them on and off when moving from room to room. But some things such as water heater, iron, oven, electric kettle etc that users heater cannot be avoided, just have to be more prudent when using them.

Hi ARCHer, Are you refering to this? Am interested to get this also but actually prefer the Manhattan below. Will be getting a 37" LCD TV so am afraid it will look too small with the Manhattan. Do u mind sharing some pics of how ur LCD TV fit onto your console? Tks.
-
Not my unit but same design from HDB. Looks good enough, can save some money.

Still shopping around, Love the Cellini Manhattan AMP 100 console but may be too big. Alternative is the Cellini FUTURA AMP 95, thou not as nice as the Manhattan. Recently saw the Sharp Audio System Rack for Aquos LCD TV at Best, may consider getting that.
