Opening A New Chapter Of Our Lives ... 2nd Home In 7 Years
Chunky Monkey replied to Chunky Monkey's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Book shelves/General storage in Living Room What the interior looks like. Instead of the normal plain white laminate, we have Sycamore. And a close up of the layout of the laminate on the doors. We are very happy with with the results. This was previously thought only possible with veneer! We basically asked our designer to make use of the recon oak grain look alike lami squares, to create zig zag patterns on the doors. The look of a straight piece of lami would just look so dull and boring. Completed Kitchen Sink -

Good for you! Wonder if the size you ordered is the same as what I'm using. Thank you. Soon ... in a couple of more weeks. We're onto the touch up stage now ... -

wuga, sorry for this late reply. I did have difficulty assesing renotalk over the past couple of days. The contact person for me, at Fascina is Alice. But you should call and speak with Alice's boss Christopher, and ask for a better discount. It's not possible to comment if $60K is too much for your installation after A&A, because it all depends on how many openings you are installing these uPVC windows or doors & their sizes, and the type of glass that you have asked for etc. At Bestview, look for Helen. She's really very nice. No, no ID nor architect. Only husband and wife team. Sure, of course. Anyway I can help, just PM me. -

My nick? Only because I love Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey and have gone thick at the waist after 2 children! It's not a U channel that he's insisting but a stainless steel support mounted to the wall. If he does this, it would not longer a a frameless shower screen but a semi-framless shower screen. I do not wish to use a U channel, especially for the shower area. The constant contact with water, scum etc over time will cause the silicon to turn black because of bacteria. Some countries, e.g. Australia has moved away from using silicon and U channels for shower screen installations, and rely 100% on clamps and brackets. That's what I want to do. I think I am going to order my hardware from overseas and get them shipped over here. I went to Thye Seng (hadn't realised the wrong spelling earlier. Tai Seng = turtle soup) and they do not have what I need. I did go to the hardware manufacturer next door, and consulted the boss. He was very helpful and offered to help me source for the hardware supplier in Singapore. But he is not hopeful, and even suggested that I order online and arrange for international shipping. -

The glass supplier had actually pre-cut holes in the glass at the factory before installation, right? Afterall, glass cannot be drilled. What you have done require alot of precision. Amazing. http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg0929ng6.jpg What you did here is amazing. I was just discussing with the glass shower screen installer today, and almost got into a heated argument. He was so pessimistic, and insisted that I have to have a top rail to support my 3 sided tempered glass shower screen. And I hate that! He is so insistent that the glass with shake yada yada. I really need to go down to Tai Seng and look around! -

Thumbs up for Tai Seng. I love that shop. -
The stuff on this website look good ... they may have what you're looking for. http://www.outdoorculture.com.sg/home.html You may want to look for treated/finished cane/wicker, so you won't get splinters and cuts. Here's another one .... http://www.ohmm.sg/
-
You can even get 2 seater ones, where the weave of the cane is alot, alot finer, and tighter. They are more expensive but look absolutely lovely. It comes with a cushion and the seat area is actually flat, and everywhere else is curved. I sighted one of these in the balcony of a landed house along Bedok Road. No idea where it's from. Google for cane or wicker furniture perhaps?

Lovely! Sakae Sushi, may I enquire how you managed to secure glass shelvings onto your fixed bath screen in your bathroom? -
How Much Are You Willing To Pay For A Dining Table?
Chunky Monkey replied to ahberden's topic in Home Furnishings
Depends on how much I love the dining table set. Have you checked out Finezza http://www.finezza.com.sg/web/index.htm at Park Mall? I love their dining tables. Classy and classic. -
Previously they weren't made in Thailand .... at least not 7 years ago when I bought my Grohe. If I am not wrong, only the lower end models are made in Thailand.

Look forward to seeing pictures of your new home, sakae sushi. I am sure your pictures will showcase your lovely rendition of the 3D designs that you posted above. LOL! Only if you have a powerful ceiling mounted, motorised extractor fan perhaps! Have to say, the trend now is to integrate the bathroom with the bedroom >> often seen in new 5 star hotels/resorts. Every room looks like a honeymoon suite! Great eyecandy, but not practical. I once joked with my DH that if we ever have a bathroom without doors, when I dash out of the bedroom, he should just assume that I have a issue with air pollution. -
It depends on the size of the area you are intending to use lamps. If the space is small, you can probably make do with floor lamps, table lamps or even a wall recessed light, like a "warm white" fluorescent tube. But this will make this space very child unfriendly if you have or will have small children. Children will pull at electrical cords, touch the bulbs etc. As for colour of light bulbs, there is white, cool white and warm white. Cool white is equivalent to daylight. Warm white is what gives you the yellowish hue. I personally like warm white but my DH thinks it's bad for our eyesight. And my main contractor did mention that warm white gives him a headache, because he has to strain his eyes to compensate for the lack of brightness in a room that use warm white. So what I am doing is cool white inside the house, and warm white outside the house for that mood lighting. In my current house, we have 2 banks of lights. Halogen lights + cool white downlights. When we had home parties, we would use the halogen lights. But halogen lights emit alot of heat, so we always had to set our living room aircon on high fan and 22 deg C!

When Should We Buy Eletrical Applicances?
Chunky Monkey replied to ckoonyin's topic in Electronics & Electricals
This is so very important. If you know for sure you want to get a particular electrical appliance, the suggestion is to get it first. I.e. pay a deposit for it first, or even pay in full. Some retailers are only willing to store purchased products for maximum of 2 months. So you might want to check on the sales terms. I had a close shave. 6 months ago, I shortlisted the combi microwave that I wanted. I asked the sales lady if I needed to pay a deposit for it, and she said there wasn't a need for it, because supply was high. I got all the dimensions and installation guides from her, and passed them on to my kitchen designer for his plans. And when I wanted to purchase the unit for actual installation, I was shocked that there wasn't a single piece left, other than the showroom display set. Apparently, some developers bought up all the sets for their respective showrooms!! I had no choice but to buy the showroom piece because that's the only model that can complement my existing oven. -

Bathroom Accessories ~ Where To Buy
Chunky Monkey replied to Chunky Monkey's topic in Home Furnishings
Thank you, gendon! That's an excellent read. But I still won't go for chrome. Like your article says, not all PVD are alike. My faucets are from Grohe. And guess what, after 7 years, my shower mixtures have peeled. -
That's good to know, Max. The only reason I am defending (if you will) this company is because I also do not wish that forummers write off this company because they are distracted by your personal account. It would just be too sad, because it means that other people will not get the opportunity to see the products for themselves. That's all. I am in no way related to this company, in case someone out there is about to shoot that assumption. I am a SAHM, and retired from banking.

sakae sushi, your 3D design drawings are absolutely impressive. Are you going to have cement screeded walls in your bathrooms? And what will you be using for your wall coverings in Living Room 1 and Living Room 2? Lastly, your glass sliding wardrobe doors ... may I recommend that you use opaque glass film? I have had experience with translucent glass doors/frost glass doors, and they look fabulous ... only when the wardrobe is empty or when you only have clothings of ONE colour. Realistically, we have clothings, bags and accessories of all sorts of colours and when you can see them through the glass, it's like a disaster zone in there .... or like my DH says "wayang". -
Have you considered the remaining space left after installing a bathtub? If the leftover space left is badly compromised, you may feel like your bathroom is lopsided with a huge bath fixture on one side. My current bathroom has a bath and a shower. In the past 7 years, I have only been inside my own long bath less than 10 times. Which is why I no longer have a long bath in my new house. But I still have a long bath in my children's bathroom. My children are still young, and they love being in the tub.

Very clearly, the customer service is not ideal, and you sound like you're still miffed at the lousy service you received. As a consumer/shopper myself, I would be totally disgusted as well. The thing you have to know is that the type of people who go in there, know what they are looking for, maybe because they are repeat customers or are recommended by their ID to look for specific things. Their showrooms are not suitable for browsers. And I speak the truth as a long term customer. If only you were forewarned not to go there to "browse". This is THE only company that sell the very good quality stainless steel wire basket/accessories pull outs, imported from Italy. If you see the quality of its fixtures (which you probably won't ever get to see, since you're still so angry with them), and compare that with those sold by Sim Siang Choon or Hoe Kee Hardware, you will know why I still shop with them. There is defininitely room for service improvement. But I also know these folks won't care.

No stainless steel because it's more lasting. Chrome is actually a plating, which peels off over time.
