  1. Anyone know which one is better? Was intending to get the Gas Heater from City gas but then was told it would cost more in the long term then electric storage heater. Also was told electric heater is better, especially storage ones So now undecided Anyone with experience with the city gas free gas heater care to share the experiences?
  2. Today went shopping again. Was going to go Poh Joo but while driving there saw the big Genova sign, so decided to pop in for a look only. But end up buying 2 WC from them Bought this one Was selling on offer for about $138 usual price was about $236 . Seems quite a good deal. Other places we previously went to , WC usually cost about 150 or so. This model even had the anti slam seat!! Will probably go back Genova for their accessories another day. They had so many and the price was much cheaper then other places Then went to Adamas to check it out and after that Poh Joo, intending to buy the Rubine Kitchen sink cause Steven say we need to get that delivered earlier then the rest cause of it has to be put into our sink support. When we went there was shown the Poh Joo own brand of kitchen sink, Morning (least thats how i think its spelt). Was every impressive but cost more then Rubine. It was much thicker. The sink drainage hole has a little basket to filter the stuff on top of the normal drainage filter. So no need bottle trap . It comes with everything in so just connect it up will do. Though it cost more, we decided to buy that . Cost us total $355 for sink and tap. Wanted to buy our MBR and Common toilet basin also but was worried about the size. Check out a few but didnt really find any we liked. Decided to go back to the house measure then come back another to buy since the basin are only required much later. Then went to Kelantan Lane to check out some lights. They have quite cheap lights there. But we were rushing, so just asked prices then ran off. All this rushing around, we just realized we havent had our lunch!! But endure we did cause had to rush to Senoko which was on the other side of the island Rush down from Jalan Besar to Barang Barang warehouse in Senoko Loop to check out the sale. Was quite disappointed couldnt find anything we wanted Most of the beds were in Queen size. Only 1 or 2 were in King. We noticed that it seems like most places dont have King size bed frames. WHy is that? Even at Courts they also have only mostly Queen. When we wanted King they had very limited models. Going to try Silver River next for the bed frame on another day After that met friends for dinner then rush down back to the house to measure the basin size before going to Courts Bought the king size Sealy Backsaver New Heritage mattress for $721. It was going 800+ but they had a AMEX promo going on, 15% off. FH dug out his long time never used AMEX card to pay and enjoy the discount. Then totally tired out we went home...........this was a damm tiring day Still so many more things to buy..............
  3. 1 more week to start of the hacking!!! !! Start to spend money already Just bought this washer at Harvey Norman fo $499. 7.5KG Front load. Delayed delivery till after reno finish http://sg.lge.com/prodmodeldetail.do?actTy...;model=NOTHING# Going to order the hob, hood and oven sometime this week . Decided on the Cuizino trio. Going to Poh Joo to order soon Then fridge also decided already but havent order. Its the Hitachi R-Z450AM http://www.hitachiconsumer.com/sg/products...227&tid=635 Most likely buy from Hong Liang as its so far given the lowest quote. 20 dollars cheaper then GAB Now must decide the sink and basin Anyone has tried the Rubine sinks? http://www.rubine.com.sg Saw them at Poh Joo and they recommended it Taps and stuff also still looking....the trays and basket a friend told me to buy from Shanghai Tong Li at Jalan Sultan. Anyone buy from there before? Hmm what else to buy...oh yeah Lights!! more shopping!!! Going IKea and other places to Kelantan Lane to see Oh yeah mattress also......was looking at the Sealy Backsaver from Courts. Is anyone using it ? Is it good?
  4. 0. Give up the idea of cheap and good unless you feeling really lucky. It does exist but you must be really lucky to find one. 1. Get your floor plan and scan into a JPG picture file 2. List down all the items you want to be done (e.g hack floor, change window, wardrobe etc etc) 3. Send the floor plan and list of items and description of what you want to do to a number of ID & contractor and ask them to give you a quote. For the list of contractor you can read the forum to see which are the ones that are recommended by the people on the forum 4. When you get the quote, run through the quote and remove what you dont want (to save cost) or add items you just remembered you want 5. Narrow down list of ID & contractor to those few whose quote fit your budget or is near your budget. Ask them to requote with the items. Arrange for them to go down to your unit to take a look before the requote 6. When you get the quote go through it again and re-evaluate. Do this a few rounds till you find a company you are comfortable with both in terms of the person you deal with, the budget, their reliability.
  5. Congrats!! Waaahh you bought so much already? Where do you store them while you reno?
  6. Thanks Cavie for the infomation on Cuizino. Makes me more feel more assured getting the brand This are the 3 from Cuizino we are eyeing. The Hob is an old model. I hope they still have stock of it. The new model of the 3 ring hob has the knobs at the side which I dont like. Where did you get your Cuizino from?
  7. True, forums are meant to share information and not for debates. But then information shared should stand request for clarification, IMHO. Nothing wrong with wanting to clarify the information. No need to get defensive over it. But if you feel any information you post , I should not ask for clarification and accept it at face value. Then I wont. I can live with that. I just find it funny that all 14 post is about promoting one ID with no pictures shown especially since the reno should be completed by now (started in Aug 07). But you have your right not to share the pictures as it is your house (though you did mention in other post to arrange with your ID to view your photos which is quite unusual for most of us regulars here). Also the fact the 1st post upon registration and every post after that is a promotion and advertisement of Peter Tan. So just wanna clarify if is he really that good, cause from what i gather from your post he is unbelievablely good. If I need to change my ID to him, I would like to know more. Renovating a house is a big event for many of us, some of us cannot afford to test as you suggested and then suffer the consequences of failure and the hassle that comes with it. So we would like to be assured by getting more clarification eventhough being 100% sure is not possible. Anyway this thread was started to share genuine experiences with ID from Ideal Hous, so guess you are right, you are just sharing. Readers can make of it what they will from what they read. Lets hope the one I selected from Ideal House do a good job for me
  8. Yippeee!! Decided on start work date!! Start to hack on 25th (final confirmation needed but more or less sure )! 5 days to hack to be on the safe side. I didnt know our house was that big , cause I thought usually they take 3 days Steven said he will give us the schedule of works and date of delivery of items and dimension of the various items to get We are eyeing a Cuizino Chimmey Hood+Hob + Oven. The cheapest one ...cause of budget constraint . Anyone has experience with this brand? I saw some posting in the forums at Singaporebride but it ended up as a quarrel between Bellari and Cuizino supporters Now must think what washing machine, what fridge etc etc to get. What are the usual things we must get for the renovations? I know Hood+Hob+Oven+ Fridge cause they have to be fixed or measured for the cabinet. But what else? I wanted a 400l+ fridge but my FH veto me So now thinking getting 350-400l ones. Any recommendations?
  9. hmmmm 1 post to praise Peter who is according what is written is new to Ideal House 13 post all to praise Peter who is according what is written is new to Ideal House hmmmmm Got pics? When did you see the ad in the newspaper? As far as what I know from the people I talk to in Ideal House, the usually do not go for exhibition nor advertise in the newspaper. Most of their business is from word of mouth. Anyone seen ad in the papers by Ideal House? I havent seen a single one since I started searching in September nor seen them at the various exhibition at Expo I been to
  10. Hi MaCe Thanks for the info 1 more question, DongTu should be done on day our BaZi say auspicious or should be done on days the Tongshu say good to reno? which one has higher priority ah? Very hard to find a day both also got
  11. In my case, our Main Door lock is spoilt Our ID offered to provide and install a new one for us. So we wondering if that is a good idea Or should we buy one ourselves and ask him to install. Thing is we dont know what kind of lock to get as ours is a old type of door, the contractors say need to get the older type of locks which means our choices very limited
  12. Any idea if it is okay to do the Dong Tu during the 1st 15 Day of the Lunar month? I wont be starting the actual hacking and stuff till after 15 days so dont disturb neighbours. But was wondering for the Dong Tu ceremony can be done during the 1st 15th days or is there any rule against it ? Anyone any ideas?
  13. Is it possible to mount a slim hood without a cabinet? My ID say need cabinet on top if I want to use a slim hood. He advice me to get a chimmy. I prefer slim because its easier to clean So wondering is the ID suggestion cause cannot mount without cabinet or for more design purpose?
  14. DO you all normally buy your own Main Door locks or just take those your ID provide for free?
  15. Hi Lemongrass You can look at the 3D drawings they came up for our flat, based on our requirements at my reno blog Kajua's Nest Design is up to the individual taste, so hard to say if their designs are good. Might be good to us but you might not like it. For us, their ideas been quite good. It might also be a case of our reno being quite simple so not much to design But Steven and Max are quite attentive to our requirements, so will design according to what we tell them and how they understand it. For example, the green tiles you see in the drawing was my idea. Cause I loved that color! But when choosing tiles, Steven, Max and even the Hafary sales person Simon said it matches best with a white but my FH doesnt want white floor, so they came up with green strip in the center with white border. Also they case our structural pillars of our toilet in the green tiles. My FH liked the idea very much, he had steven case our MBR toilet in the brown tiles also. But now I am having 2nd thoughts after seeing Sunzhi blog of entire green wall When choosing things like tiles, paint color, grilles, cornice etc etc, we found that their suggestion was quite good
  16. Does it mean approved by SPRING = Can be used by HDB or is there a seperate process to it? Cause I thought approved by Spring = can be used in Singapore
  17. Hi hobbes187, can't comment much about max cos we have not started our reno yet. in addition, we liaise with steven most of the time. both of them work in a team and steven was the one who did most of the talking. nevertheless, find max quite a nice, easygoing and friendly guy. seem experience cos the first time we bought them to our house, while we were having discussion with steven, max was actually checking on the floor tiles and was able to identify some hollow tiles without having to use coins to test. Just my observation about him so far. hope you will enjoy the meetup with him !!
  18. You are welcome We were also new bird when we first started in September. Now still learning Think most important like what we read in a lot of threads, you must be comfortable with the ID you work with rather then just get the famous ones. Of course the company credibility must be good also wait comfortable but lousy job. That why I was also asking around in another thread besides Mr K how have been the experience with Ideal House other ID in general. Good luck hunting for the ID/Contractor.....it wears you down and tires you out after a while
  19. So besides K there is Steven and Max (we engaged them) Johnny Danny from Ideal House
  20. Balinese-style! i like! then place water features, wooden tiles, plants, stones! think i will keep wanting to go toilet after that yup, we are doing concrete sink support. That is because the back part of the sink faces our service balcony (self created because dont come with one). So if we use laminate my FH was worried after a period of time, the laminate will just get spoil from all the water dripping
  21. ya, the stove is side-facing the toilet door, but luckily it's some distance apart. hehehe... actually i did thought of repositioning too... first time having own house mah, so will think of all kind of ideas. even thought of repositioning the mbr and other rooms opening better not let my htb see this, else he will . ultimately, can't reposition the kitchen opening la, budget constraint
  22. mine is gas stove, i supposed got to do those flip-up type i consulted a few fs master, apparently all suggest placing the stove at the opposite wall and none say cannot place the sink in front of the window. maybe because the sink is back facing the window? meaning the water is flowing in instead??
  23. Thanks all for the valuable feedback. Need to place the stove at that area due to Fengshui reason. Actually I did consider about the space problem at the stove area. Was expecting a longer cabinet too My ID say the length is 4ft, so am still trying to figure out how much space I will have after putting the stove. Probably like what greycat suggest, do a foldable or pull-up flap applefreak, now that you mention about the heat, sounds logical. looks like must reconsider the cabinet design liao. there will be a shower kerb in the common toilet, ID didn't include in the drawing
  24. wow! nice and unique basin you've got! was kind of unsure whether the green tiles will look nice, especially after seeing our 3d drawings. but now that i see your toilet tiles, feel more at ease liao. still like the refreshing effect
  25. Met up with our ID last night to view the 3D drawings and select design for the grills, doors, etc. Like the design of our MBR and kitchen very much. Was a bit disappointed when i saw the 3D drawing for the toilets, seems a bit plain and dull to me but my htb say he like the idea and design. But then, the tiles was chosen by me, so can't complain Our ID said that the color shown in the drawings is slightly duller, hence may not reflect the actual look. Hopefully the completed toilet will look better Paiseh, no scanner, so use handphone to take the pics MBR Kitchen Stove area MBR Toilet Common Toilet
