  1. May I know, for the internal (non-main) doors, is it compatible? How much did your ID charge for swapping out the handles? What about the physical damage done, i.e. is the swapping out process very damaging for the wooden portion around the existing door handle+lock mechanism?
  2. Hi fellows. I've track lights installed & controlled on a 2-way circuit. Observed that my light (only connect 1 unit * 3-watt track lamp for testing) is flickering even when the switch (es) are off. Repeated the test with alternative track lamps (however, always 1 unit per test) with the same observation. My electrician says the flickering is due to the stray current always present in the circuit of 2-way circuits regardless of them being turned on/off. I'm not entirely convinced. I'm seeking feedback from users with track light systems controlled by 2-way switches. Do you observe this? What wattage are each of your track lamp? Do you observe this when only 1 lamp is left connected on your entire track? Do let me know. Much appreciated. N.B. My "2-way" circuit refers to a single track being able to be powered on/off via 2 physical switches.
  3. The specific model in that image you posted, is by the brand MK Electric; & as bepgof mentioned, it is indeed a 2-gang metalclad (a few other brands make these metalclad switches as well). You can also easily find the MK-branded ones at most Choo Chiang Marketing outlet across the island. I bought a few of them myself.
  4. @Yolo: did your contractor mention any concerns with regards to chemical(acid) washing, e.g. staining/bleaching of grout (assuming usage of special grout colours), etc? If I'm not, powder-coating involves putting paint powder on the metal surface & baking the whole item in an "oven"/furnace...so probably the contractors can't powder-coat your balcony frame while it is still 1 big-piece installed in your house. Are you sure your balcony frame isn't already powder-coated? @Yolo: if you mind not, may I have your contact for the cheapest (blinds) quotation? I'm also looking for blinds for my place & my current quotations are unbearably expensive.
  5. May I know why only the handle needs to be powder-coated? What material is the handle made of? How narrow is the aluminium frame?
  6. May I know how much did you pay for the (studio) lamp on the right? & do you have a close-up shot of it? Bulb included for the price?
  7. The fire alarm bell can be made less loud as long as you have the patience to stick layers & layers & layers of masking tape underneath the metal bell cover (ask the vendor to teach you how). May I know what model that relite fan is, & how much did it cost you? How's the wind power?
  8. What a coincidence? I'd also chosen Admira brand (dunno if it's good or bad), but I went for this design (for my study table): Actually the whole rating now is very screwed up: there was a revision in the benchmarks (introduced August last year: source) they used to determine the no. of ticks. So now a lot of the same fridges are getting average around 1 less tick but a lot of folks wouldn't know/care why until they slowly read the announcement came posters in some shops. & be it old or new system of ticks, I find something confusing: I thought I saw some fridges with lesser no. of ticks but having a lower annual energy consumption rating as compared with fridges with higher no. of ticks. Nonetheless, I'm also considering SMEG because of its adorable look...maybe I'll go for the single door version, assuming the rest of the features between it & the 2-door version is the same. Wait, so in fact, AC motors are the quieter ones? But on the other hand, the AC fan in my bedroom is rather noisy. But I feel the noise is coming from the fan blades "pushing the air" & not the motor itself; so dunno whether it's acceptable or not. Am still trying to find a good place that sells the Haiku closer to the $1k-price point. Many places I got quoted for, sells it around $1300.
  9. I recall Robinsons selling SMEG fridges for around twice that price; but it is likely the ones at Robinsons are 2-separate door versions. Tried to visit Tampoi to purchase Haiku fans over the last weekend, but was told (though I'm still unconvinced) that Haiku fans are not sold in Malaysia.
  10. May I know how's the selection available at Jalan Kayu Unilite? I don't expect them to have a lot of colours/patterns right in the store, but are they open to orders from a catalogue? What about the competitiveness of their prices? Delivery charges? How many "ticks" do the SMEG get with regards to energy-saving? May I know the advantages of DC motor-fans?
  11. Hi, noticed you bought the KB002 retro black steel gate for your apartment. May I have a photo of the corner where you unit number (for privacy perhaps you can block out all but left 1 number?) is placed? I am interested to see the "3D block letters" that company issued for this specific gate model. Thank you.
  12. So...$580? do they have any more? What about delivery charges?
  13. 2By2 at Lian Hup Metal; very sincere shopowner Goods are pricey but there's a reason why their stuff are worth more than the ones you found on TaoBao.
  14. @zjwbotak: is your concern with regards to reducing the flickering of lights due to the spread of the light from the tracklights being intercepted by the spinning radius of the fan(s)?
  15. Hi fellows. May I know how many kinds of 2-way switch implementation are there? It seems like there is a kind of 2-way switching that does not require the (light) switch itself to be a "2-way" while there is another kind that requires the physical switch to be 2-way. My own impression is that 2-way switches simply means the same single appliance, e.g. one lamp, to be able to be powered on/off from 2 physical switches. What's the other kind?
  16. Just curious, how much more did your ID quote you if you were to go for mild steel with the same design? You referring to the "divisions" of the glass panels? Did you came up with the design by yourself, or did your ID design them?
  17. Exactly, i.e. I am also faced with such a dilemma now (choosing between mild steel versus aluminium). Was told by my vendor that aluminium frames have to be slightly thicker because aluminium is soft(er than steel). Is there anywhere to tell if a metal piece is aluminium or mild steel? Is mild steel magnetic? I'm still (stuck) deciding...between the 2 materials for my metal frame.
  18. May I know how high is the top of your half-wall (for your study), & also, the thickness of the (aluminium) frames that "sits" on that wall? Were other materials proposed to you to make the black frame?
  19. Hi fellows. Heard some feedback from other FaceBook members that sometimes vendors may try to pass off indoor blinds-material as materials suitable for outdoor blinds. Is there anyway we can evaluate this? Does outdoor blinds material exhibit certain measurable/visually observable characteristics? Btw, is it true that we are only allowed to install roller & bamboo chic blinds for exposed areas (like balconies); cannot use timber/PVC blinds for outdoor?
  20. Besides Elmark, any other ceiling fan brands that comes with light?
  21. May I know is there any difficulty in following this when wall-mounting the TV onto the brickwall, i.e. need to find a mounting bracket that has the screw(s) perfectly wide enough to "land" in the grouting?
  22. @desatans May I know if you are using PVC conduits, or GI conduits, & how did your electrician bill you for them pipes? By metre, or lump sum?
  23. May I know if the surface/texture of this black gate is rough or totally smooth?
  24. How are you playing your movies onto your TV & TV's speakers? E.g. what's your playback "chain"? Passing through any setup boxes, receivers, etc? Btw, if you are getting large quantity of speakers, I'm quite positive you will be able to secure discounts from Tat Chuan.
  25. You can purchase the UK-plug power cables from Tat Chuan ($10 each). Your Amazon sets will come with the US 2-(flat)-prong plug. That may be so. On the other hand, if you are using them as rear speakers/mounted in certain orientation, you may wish to investigate their specs further (although this likely applies to the Play:5 versus the Play:3): some of the model can detect if they are mounted in vertical or horizontal orientation & calibrate their output accordingly.
