  1. ART: Art is a BIG part of our home! I love abstract paintings and also the regal paintings you see everywhere in London, but sometimes get spooked by them. Heh! See, my Modern Classic taste comes through in art too. My first "bigger" purchase (it really isn't that expensive, but to people who don't enjoy decorating their home with art it might be) was an Iris Grace Painting. If you don't know, she is a SIX year old autistic phenomenal painter. I am already eyeing two more of her paintings -- I might not have enough walls to mount them all. Besides, I need a mixture of artwork. But I really love a lot of her paintings. It came in the mail today. I took a quick shot of it, but it's gorgeous in real life. I can't even. Ahhhhhhh I'm beginning to see a bit of light at the end of the reno tunnel!
  2. Thank you! I look forward to it progressing too. hehe. I got them from Isetan. They are loosely sold, though, so to buy a complete set might take a bit of luck! I bought 4 pieces of each, total 16 pieces.
  3. MISCELLANEOUS: Decided to start a miscellaneous post because... I realized today that I will probably be buying a lot of things that I *should* only buy after I move in. Nonetheless, good deals must snatch, right? HAHA! Saw a good deal on English porcelain-ware and my highly-coveted gold cutlery (these were MIJ, and is a nice surprise!). Even though I have a set of perfectly good WMF cutlery, my hubby told me the contrast with the porcelain-ware was so beautiful, he let me get them. And they are in theme as well, ma, right? Swee boh?! I think I am the only one who's excited about kitchenware...
  4. Why he so mean hahaha I have no carpentry with my contractor as of now. All movable furniture because I am a perpetual designer (ie 职业病) Kitchen we're still undecided on going with IKEA or Edmund. Waiting to hear from IKEA today if can finalize by this weekend, that'll be great.
  5. Hahaha!! Not so fun for me, very stressful. But of course, hopefully the "feeling" will come out. He only had an opinion on the divide thing (divide the tiles during walkway or in the rooms only) haha. But glad he made that decision! Yep, bathtub is being delivered tomorrow and aircon on Monday.. Everything will be fast and furious from there!
  6. Chose the dark wooden color even though my hubby didn't understand it.. I was afraid a polished tile would take away the "cozy" feel and make it too sterile. These were the two photos I used to convince him. Can see the style forming more and more now! Modern classic The contrast with the grey walls and white skirting (yes, we actually bought WHITE tiles for white skirting!!) Love how with the dark floors and bright walls -- the choices are limitless for furniture!! This inspired our bedroom floors. This floor is a bit too Scandinavian for my liking, but I think with a bit of tweaks, can be made into modern classic too! Hopefully it won't turn out disastrous!! I always say, the plans in my head are either heading for total failure or total success.
  7. BATHTUB! We found a steel-enamel tub for 50% off at $250! Not suuuuuper cheap but a good price nonetheless. So fast hand fast leg hooted it. It will be delivered on Saturday. Hehe! So excited! TILES We went to Hafary today and picked a total of 4 tiles! Forgot to take proper pics of them For our Living, we decided to follow the Pinterest pictures and went for a cozy, darker-toned wood tile. Looks like this, code is E615099 Walkway and rooms Even though I wasn't a fan of light colored wood (a bit too Scandinavian), we found a modern classic bedroom picture that used light grey wooden tiles. So we went for this one. At first, our contractor didn't recommend the walkway to be different tiles as the LR, but my hubby insisted on it cus he wanted a clear demarcation of "zones". We will also have a baby gate at the walkway to prevent the bunnies from going into the rooms or toilets. So I hope this turns out well! Something like this: code is XWS6041 For our MBR toilet, we decided to go with my favorite marble-esque tiles for one wall, and light grey for the floor! Can't find the exact one for this... It's the lighter color below and rough surface. RV6301R Light streaks but slightly more streaks than this! HAHA. Code 36021 for this! SUPER excited today even though was stressed during tile choosing, cus so many decisions but we went with the not-so-safe option but followed Pinterest... Hopefully it will turn out right!
  8. Thanks! Can't wait to share. We're starting works on Monday! Thanks!! Yours too!!
  9. Taobao Purchases (contd) Hansgrohe Accessories (not sure authentic or not)
  10. Taobao Purchases Bidet Spray x 2 Hansgrohe Shower Set (with sink tap) Hansgrohe Tap (same as above, for the other toilet) Hansgrohe Rainshower Set Gold Kitchen Faucet (trying this one out)
  11. I think most false ceilings got cut one hole for the false ceiling one leh! Don't worry la still will be pretty
  12. Just signed the contract + paid deposit with our contractor today! Going to choose tiles on Friday, then it's gonna be pretty quick from then!! NEED TO PLACE THAT TAOBAO ORDER NOW!
  13. I met Nick and he's said that people say that he's a savior! And he probably was to you. I didn't go with him in the end, but I get what you're saying. Thanks for sharing the entire experience, and still waiting to read more. As someone starting the reno journey, I really feel for you guys. Sending loads of prayers and good vibes...
  14. Ahhhhh thank you! That sheds a LOT of light actually. They are coming for site measurement on Saturday, so I'm waiting to see what they say. Thank you! Yes! It is. My living room is shorter than yours, mine is only about 5.2m in length (actual size when we measure without the walls), and 3.18m wide. So I think it's probably smaller than yours? The actual measurements is quite different (since there are the walls) and the living room is quite "short" on first look, but I think it sorta grew on me... After measuring and everything it's more than enough for all the furniture I wanted, so I think yours will be even better! My kitchen + yard is 4.02m, so slightly longer on the long side, but the short side is only 2.9m (service + yard). I gave up the hacking of the kitchen/SY wall because I wanted to keep the divide. I think people underestimate the 3R, but it really is petite sized la... Haha! Also, maybe your bedrooms are bigger?
  15. I follow about half of what you're saying... So does that mean the back of my IKEA cabinets will have a gap, or that my IKEA cabinets will be slightly slanted (meaning worktop is not 90 degree from the floor)? I am not doing plinths if I go with IKEA, but asking my contractor to build a 6-8" cabinet base... Does that help? Thanks for the input btw!
  16. I will call Silestone tomorrow to get a quote! Thanks for reminding me about Silestone. CS is just so much more expensive... I don't know if it's worth it. And yes I read that! After this I think IKEA upped the QC of their contractors after too, since these sagas aren't good for PR right? And that's a good thing that you can get a brand new kitchen right? Contractors can just ignore you and pretend it isn't their fault... Still torn! Don't know to choose between SS/CS or IQuartz Or IKEA or contractor kitchen :help:
  17. IKEA KITCHEN: We are still torn on IKEA kitchen vs contractor's custom kitchen, only difference is interior fittings vs plywood, since price is not much difference for our teeny kitchen. We love the interior fittings of the IKEA kitchens, and how all the kitchen accessories can fit in perfectly, and how we can see how it all looks like on paper, whereas we know we can afford to be "less careful" with the contractor's cabinets. Kitchen countertops we're going with iQuartz Bianco Ariston, but they take a while to get back to us. Caesarstone is going to cost us almost 2x the price, and make our entire kitchen come in at about $6k, instead of $4k. What do you guys think? I do LOVE Caesarstone's marble-esque countertops, but the price diff is and my contractor says CS is just a brand, quality also only so-so, just comes with limited lifetime warranty. IKEA cabinets come with a 25-year limited warranty, and though Singaporeans generally dismiss IKEA as bad, my American clients + peers tell me that IKEA cabinets have been their best investment! I am so torn! Pics from IKEA planning today -- the blank top space will have open shelvings, the short wall will only use 39cm depth counters because I don't want my kitchen to be cramped.
  18. Daiso got label remover But you use rubbing alcohol also same effect. Just peel out then use rubbing alcohol.
  19. Hey DeadEnd! How's the laminate on your main door working out? I wanted to laminate my main door but my contractor recommended not to as it might "pop" over time, since the door is not optimal for laminating over... Wonder what's your take on it after living with it for a while?
