Ive been using genuine leather sofa (Not PU leather) Purchased from Univonna in May2008 & comes with a 5 year no question asked exchange guarantee. So far so good. It does get hot sometimes but this is Spore so having the aircon will solve this problem. As for spilling drinks on the sofa, sometimes accidents do happen. Leather will no have this problem as a clean cloth can wipe away the stains. Cheers

AVone - Enterprsie One, Ubi or KEC @ Adelphi. In fact, Adelphi has plenty of AV shops but i recommend KEC. To embark on a superb cinematic experience (which i already have) you must 1st set a budget. The breakdown for a complete home theater is a)5.1/7.1 speakers (bookshelf or floorstanders) b)Amplifier c)Bluray player d)LCD or Plasma & lastly e) cables & such next question, are you more of a movie or music person? After all that is settled, listen to your ears & eyes. Different speakers has different audiences. So go & enjoy the flow to build a solid Home Theater without busting your wallet. Cheers

I concur with alchemist. I have also bought items from Everjoint (KDK ceiling fan, washing machine & fridge) Service was excellent even though my fridge kaput a few days later, they exchange it without fuss. Though my communique with the people there was limited, (just 1 phone call to check prices & delivery schedule + confirmation) everyhting was smooth. Cheers

Youre correct. Our region is the same as US. Unfortunately I cant say much of the quality of the Bluray discs from Spore. For example, Rise of the Lycans pressed by our local distributor, Alliance, is only 25Gb & its only a single disc edition while the US Bluray for the same movie is a 2 disc 50Gb disc. I owned these discs before & I can safely conclude that i will never buy blurays manufactured in Spore.

Philips bluray players do not decode DTS HD-Master Audio but they do decode Dolby True HD though. Why would I want to get a bluray player that doesnt give me the standard settings? Cheers

Why would anyone want to put a plastic cover over speakers? -
PS3 not region free. better check before buying unless you dont buy any blurays from Europe (esp UK) & Australia. cheers

The $299 Sony Bluray player is probably the BDP30 model. Dont evee buy that coz it has only a 1.0profile when all the entry Bluray players are with a 2.0 profile. This means a 1.0 BD player is the bare minimum & you cant access featurettes & download extra content. So, all that cheap doesnt means its good.

Congrats on your new home!!! From your vantage point of the sunset, its very familiar coz I used to stay upstairs at #12!!! That means the Lee family has moved out.

What AVR are u using? Cheers

Hi other budget speakers for your considerations - 1) Tannoy 2) KEF 3) Definitive technology For a good sub, no doubt SVS subs have the best distinct in terms of quality & depth, but its really pricey. You can consider brands like Velodyne. Cheers

Pai seh Dont understand your statement. I thought BOSE speakers connections are thru its unique "subwoofer"? Unless you have the Acoustimass system which allows connection to any amp. Anyway good for you to use a Yamaha amp instead of the useless Bose receiver. I think Bose has not finalize their speakers to support HD sound yet. Cheers
-
To each its own. A HDMI compliant BOSE system is so expensive (& it doesnt sound that great either) that it makes more sense getting other brands which cost less yet sounds better. I do not suppose a Bose amp/receiver has any HD video upscaling. That eliminates watching bluray format movies though. cheers
-
Hi Your Onkyo876 amp is a **** good amp. To do justice to it, spend a bit more to get better speakers like the B&W or The Tannoy Revolution Signature series. Cheers
-
There's a Mass Order for Monoprice cables now & then from xtremeplaceforum.com. Do check it out. Cheers
-
You can get your electrician to set up the speakers cables 1st but do get the cables from a proper audio shop. Be prepared to pay a bit more rather than compromising on audio quality by getting a cheapo brand. Ya, never buy expensive BOSE. Its over hyped & using Jurassic technology. In fact BOSE stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. Cheers

Hi I believe you still need to use cables to connect the sub amplifier to the subwoofer. It didnt made any mention on what drives the speakers. I also tend to assume that it needs another receiver/amplifier to run the speakers. This system is good for music listening esp for elevator music, highly doubt if its any good for movie watching. For more versatility, i would still recommend a comprehensive 5.1 or 6.1 HTS system. As for image, there's plenty of satellite speakers to choose from. Cheers

Hi I would strongly suggest to get a Full HD plasma or LCD TV. Reason being is that HD ready TVs are being phased out. That is why the prices have plummet. Subsequently, there's no spare parts or replacement units for HD ready TVs. Furthermore, Full HD TV is the market norm now as watching bluray on a full HD is a very enriching experience. Lastly a Full HD TV cost difference is negligible as compared to a HD ready TV. Cheers
-
Hi Get Monoprice or belden HDMI cables. Cheers
-
Use HDMI cables if your DVD players & HTS is HDMI compliant. Cheers
-
Hi, if i may give some input. It all depends what youre looking for & budget. Some prefer LCD, some prefer plasma. Some goes for certain brands. In the end, let your eyes & wallet decide which TV is good for you. As for "lasting", the onus is on the owners' care taking of the LCD/plasma. I presently have a Panasonic 42" Plasma (upgraded from samsung 40" series 6) Plasma has plus points when watching HD formats such as Blurays. So far, no downside yet. Color is vibrant. Black is black. And watching movies at the comfort of home (complete with surround sound) is a whole new experience that me & my wife have not stepped into the cinema since

$1K & under wouldnt get you anything from Bose. Btw, BOSE also stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. There you have it. for your budget, I can recommend you to get brand new speakers & a compatible 2nd hand amp. Speakers to recommend - wharfedale diamond & definitive technology (esp the proCinema Series) 2nd hand amp can be procured at xtremeplace.com where sometimes upgraders will sell their audio wares. You can sniff for bargains from time to time. Happy hunting Cheers

LCD or Plasma TV

Your Pioneer plasma has color settings to adjust to your satisfaction. In fact Pioneer & Panasonic (esp the PY800H model) has almost identical specs. And yes, youre right. using a good HDMI cable & Bluray as source improves the PQ & SQ tremendously. Cheers -
863 cost about $1,150. prices may have dropped though.....
-
Hi Let me help the best I can. Yamaha 663 is a **** good amp. Highly recommended. It has Audio PLUS Full HD Video upscaling. In fact, i bought this amp earlier before I upgraded to a Yammy 863. Price wise i think its better u get a bundled deal from KEC ie meaning u get a proper 5.1 HTS with this amp. You'll be spoiled for choices for satellite speakers. There's DefTech, MS Genie, Tannoy etc & its all within your $2-3K budget. Do go down to KEC for a demo & recommendation. personally I would recommend to use a WIRED rear/surround speakers. The wireless set up is only good for weak speakers. A good rear speaker would required better cabling as opposed to wireless. Other things needed is a good subwoofer & better cables & a good DVD or Bluray player. Cheers Vince
