  1. Yup, I think you should have the tiles changed too. Wall tiling is one of the most expensive part of the renovation process. Since you have paid a high price for it, you deserve to have it done properly. When they say cannot do, it simply means too troublesome for them... The tilers have special tool to cut out the affected tiles along the joints. After removing the tiles, they would paste a new piece back into the hole and fill up the joints with grouts again. Can't tell the difference from the rest of the tiles.
  2. Indeed S&C is very popular here and I have bought my dining set from them. But then, would advise not to expect much in their showroom which I think is quite small. Better to shop around first, looking at design of furniture at various places before paying S&C a visit. Cause most of their products are inside catelogues. And be prepared to wait for a month or so for the goods to be made to order and delivered.
  3. Probably can repaint the cabinet to either black or white colour and change the door handles to give it a new look?
  4. I called Blum to check the price and passed the findings to my ID since he said he would charge me according to the supplier's price. Actually I will be using only stopper for normal kitchen cabinet doors. But for the frosted glass cabinet doors, since it is heavier, I will be using the hinges. Fittings for a door would need 2 hinges and so probably is about $7. Plus the stopper, then will be close to $10. So the pricing should be about the same as yours. The drawer I have asked Blum distributor too. A typical size (20") is about $45. The bigger the drawer, the more expensive it becomes. You can call Hong Li Hardware (64558650) or Kiang Sing Hong (63682220) to check out the supplier's prices. These two numbers are given to me by Blum.
  5. With the hood opening exposed, won't dust and grease settle inside and accumulate quickily? Just a thought...
  6. Can't remember how much it is... but the stopper is around $2+ and the hinges are about $3+. Our ID has not billed us yet.
  7. Some more pictures of our MBR... Here is our special cozy corner... the seatee adds some storage space to the MBR as well... Our WIW.. the left side... the right side... hopefully the full height mirror will create an illusion of space... now it looks quite tiny... The master toilet vanity top... very dark, can't see very well... probably will look brighter with the mirror lightings on... A close up of the vanity cabinet surface... not very clear but I like the glossy, reflective surface
  8. Here are some pictures on our carpentry work... TV feature wall and console (next to our living platform)... specially requested the ID to have a display corner at the console. A closer look at the TV feature wall and console... the piece of mirror on the feature wall is a bronze tinted mirror And here are some updates on the kitchen cabinet's progress... The ovens are installed into the tall unit. The cabinet doors have not been installed yet... ID helping us to get hinges and stoppers from Blum. The other side of the kitchen with the hob placed on top temporary... still waiting for my black galaxy worktop... The 7ft built-in wardrobe at the study room... the sliding door panels not installed yet. Noticed a little pull-out panel at the right-hand side? It will have a piece of mirror on it.
  9. It is a Baron W303... got it from Indulge Bathroom. After discount still close to $300. It is a single-piece WC, with soft closing. Choose it because of it looks easier to clean.
  10. Yesterday went down to our new flat to see the work in progress... really pleased with the speed of work. The TV feature wall/console, kitchen cabinet, MBR WIW, MBR seatee are starting to take shape... too many workers present yesterday, pai seh to take photos. Will go down during coming weekend to take some pictures. Meanwhile, a sneak preview of our kitchen cabinet (taken by Big Angel)...
  11. Not much progress in our renovation this weekend. The carpenter is fabricating our carpentry work for this week and the coming week. Will be installing the carpentry next Thursday. Soon we will be able to see our kitchen taking shape with the hood and hob, ovens and sink installed. Will post some pics next week... Yesterday we went down to S&C furniture to see see look look since it is highly recommended in the forum. Who knows we ended up getting our dining table and chairs from the shop! We managed to find the design and material we wanted in the shop at half the price we saw elsewhere. Only con is that there is no display set for us to refer to... have to decide based on the catelog. Just now we went to Royal Franco at Jalan Besar to buy a mirror for the common toilet and a hanging rod for the kitchen. Indeed the prices there is reasonable and the service is pretty good.
  12. hihi, My Simmon mattress does not come with a bedframe. Thinking of customising one...
  13. I would choose B. "A" seems to further elongated the space. "B" sort of broaden the space.
  14. My parents used to have the washing machine placed in the bathroom in our previous flat. Not adviseable as the moisture caused the washing machine to rust quite badly.
  15. Sometimes to live in a house which is overly decorated/renovated makes me feel uneasy... as if I am living in a hotel/showflat and not a HOME SWEET HOME...
  16. For tiling, should check for: - The grouting - no 'holes' - Edges of tiles should not have a 'cutting'/sharp feeling when step on - No scratches on tile surfaces - No chipping of tiles - Thickness of gap in between tiles should be similar and not too wide and most importantly... - hollowness of tiles - knock on each tile to ensure that there is no 'hollow' sound
  17. The dark edges of laminates could be 'coloured' by paint to make it less obvious.
  18. Our WC is one piece i.e. the water closet and the bowl itself are cast as one single piece. And the base of the WC is straight with minimal curves. But it is slightly more expensive though... But yours is FOC! So good...
  19. Welcome to Renotalk! Thanks for offering your first spam chop chop here...
  20. We have cancelled by Centon water heaters cos my bro-in-law managed to get 707 Protek at $185 for us. Save some money and most importantly 707 is a much more recognised brand.
  21. Depending on the material also. For denser textile which are commonly used for curtain, need to wash the two sides separately if using smaller washing machine. Bedsheet typically is okay, but if washing comforter set then a smaller washing machine may not be able to handle.
  22. Hi KopitehC, Should be the same. The model is W303. Downloaded a pics from the web... We decided on this because it looks easier to clean with its flushed base. We tested several models and this one feel quite comfortable to sit on...
  23. Mine is a 8kg washing machine. Decided to go for a bigger one so that can wash curtain, bedsheet, etc etc. Front load washing machine typically use less water and can have the dryer stack up on top. But need to bend down to get the clothes out and cannot add in more clothings once the washing starts... Not an expert, but these are some pros and cons I could think of.
  24. hihi, I think mwerkz's quotation looks ex because it includes windows, homo tiles for bedrooms and lightings. Still, there is always room for bargaining.
