Help : Aircon Planning

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm planning for airconditioning of my HDB 5I (120 sqm) unit.

Mine is the highest floor - i.e. the balcony and master bedroom has raised ceiling.

Before I list all the details, here are the areas I need help with :

1. Which option makes more sense ?

2. Which option will be cheaper ?

3. Anything specific I need to look out for ?

4. Any suggestions/advices will be appreciated.

Here are the details of the plan I have in mind so far :

AREAS TO BE AIRCONDITIONED

=====================

Master Bedroom

Bedroom 2

Bedroom 3

Living

Dining (area to the right of the living - store going to be hack down)

Study (going to install window at balcony and make it into study)

(See below for the layout plan)

I am looking at ME Inverter and have 2 options :

SYS 2 & SYS 4 SETUP

===================

Outdoor :

MXY-4A28VA (Sys 4)

Indoor :

1 x MSXY-GA13VA (3.5 kW) - Master Bedroom.

3 x MSXY-GA10VA (2.5 kW) - Bedroom 2,3 and Study.

Outdoor :

MXY-2A23VA (Sys 2)

Indoor :

2 x MSXY-GA18VA (5.0 kW) - Living and Dining.

SYS 3 & SYS 3 SETUP

===================

Outdoor :

MXY-3A28VA (Sys 3)

Indoor :

1 x MSXY-GA13VA (3.5 kW) - Master Bedroom.

2 x MSXY-GA10VA (2.5 kW) - Bedroom 2 and 3.

Outdoor :

MXY-3A28VA (Sys 3)

Indoor :

1 x MSXY-GA10VA (2.5 kW) - Study.

2 x MSXY-GA10VA (5.0 kW) - Living and Dining.

Here's the layout plan :

Just find the study room too small for aircon. 6 X 6 ft ... Can fit the table & chair only.

Also too far from the outdoor unit

Suggest you do SYS2 + SYS3

Suggest you place the indoor unit

( SYS 3 )

Above the door for BR 2 & 3

Above the door of WC1 for MB

( SYS 2 )

Along the wall of BR3 & Kitchen

hi KST,

i am not well-versed in this, but wanted to share that i am using the same Outdoor Sys 4A28VA and 3 xGA10VA units for my layout. my 5I-128 sqm floorplan looks like this:

1184263618_1303679581.jpg

i left Bedroom 3 out as we mainly use it as a storeroom (no more storeroom it was hacked away by previous owner) and helper room so no need aircon.

the aircon contractor did say it is a good thing i did not want to install aircon for Bedroom 3 as there won't be a system with sufficient capacity. now i see your plans, it makes sense coz the area to cover is too big. i am wondering now if the single 10VA unit will be sufficient for my Balcony which will be part of our Living/Dining area.

curious to know where will you place your second outdoor unit?

thanks!

Hi babyQ,

Thanks for responding.

Are you saying you are using a Sys 4 for the study, 2 bedrooms + living/dining ?

Your living/dining looks huge - based on my calculation (might be wrong), your

living/dining BTU is at least 25000.

Maybe you should consider Sys 3 + Sys 2 ?

Sys 3 for the study & 2 bedrooms and Sys 2 for living/dining.

For my second outdoor unit, I will put it either outside the window of bedroom 2 or 3.

Just find the study room too small for aircon. 6 X 6 ft ... Can fit the table & chair only.

Hi Warrior88,

Thanks for your suggestion.

Yes - we decided not to aircondition the study and will keep to a Sys 3 + Sys 2.

I intend to use the Sys 3 for bedrooms and Sys 2 for the Living/Dining.

The outdoor unit for the Sys 3 will be outside the window of the Master Bedroom.

For the Sys 2, where do you think is the best location - outside window of Bedroom 2 or 3 ?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi kst,

Bro zirhk3355 recommend this website to me.

Find it quite useful.

http://singapore-aircon.blogspot.com/

For SYS2, I would prefer BR3, cos at least your piping will be shorter.

Better discuss with the installer for other options.

Oh, mine is on the top floor also, raise ceiling in all areas,

My piping is lay inside this raise ceiling.

Warrior88,

I'm aware of that website - agreed that the info there is useful.

So, I assume you build false ceiling in your raise ceiling area and have your piping concealed inside false ceiling ?

I want to do this as well but really worry if the pipes start leaking, it will be a major mess to rectify.

Which shop you bought your aircon from ?

How's the service/workmanship ?

(If not convenient to reply here, please do PM me)

I used GC before and very satisfied with their service/workmanship.

But that's 5+ years ago - not sure if they still maintain the same service/workmanship.

Hi kst,

Yap, false ceiling can be quite messy....

Oh, I have not got mine.

I was only planning to change to inverter type.

No hurry, current one still working.

But, I heard GC is good, yet to try them though.

wah.. your calculation very chun! i dunno how to calculate, but this is what i have, already installed trunking, cannot change.

Mitsubishi Starmex System 4 Inverter R410A

Model: MXY-4A28VA/

MSXY-GA10VA x 3

MSXY-GA26VA x 1 - this is the one for the big living/dining

BTU/HR: 26,000

i didn't know can have another outdoor unit outside other bedroom windows! otherwise i could have gone Sys 2 + 3. discover this forum only as i embark on reno, so a lot of things already decided.

babyQ,

Actually whether you can have 2nd outdoor unit depends on the max electrical limit your block has. For mine, I wrote to HDB and they confirm no issue since my block as 40A (vs some older HDB with limit of 8A or 11A).

You can also check online here :

http://www.hdb.gov.sg/bn25/isos119p.nsf/Search?OpenForm

But I feel safer writing to HDB and ask if can have 2nd outdoor unit - at least got black & white.

Never mind, I'm sure you already learned a lot from this reno and your next one will be near perfect :)

Hi kst,

Can check with you ?

Base on floor plan, you need 2X8640 + 1X9626

Your SYS3 plan is as follows

MXY-3A28VA / MSXY-GA10VA x 2 / MSXY-GA13VA

7,540 Btu/hr x 2 + 10,508 Btu/hr

Looks like the other 2 rooms may not be cool in all in operation ?

My requirement now is 1X12000 + 2X9000

Thus, I am still wondering which configuration to use.

Care to share ?

warrior88 aircon sizing is quite there. its a std config but as you require a bigger load for the bigger area that is why you require 12000btu.

for kst, maybe u can try a system 3 (for rooms) + system 1 (for dining & living rm)?

the system 1 is a bigger one to cool the dinning and living rm as its quite big.

my advice is fax your floor plan to various air-con installers for their calculations/sizing and ask for a quote via fax/email 1st.

if you dun mind the brands, you can try toshiba.

the following are a lists of air-con retailers that you can try calling them and faxing them your floor plan for sizing caln and quotation. you can also ask them for advice on what is the best combination.

Hi Warrior88,

I got the following for the bedrooms :

MASTER BEDROOM

==============

BTU = 9275 (2.71 kW)

BEDROOM 2

==============

BTU = 8327 (2.43 kW)

BEDROOM 3

==============

BTU = 8327 (2.43 kW)

Hence I go for MSXY-GA13VA (3.5 kW) for Master Bedroom, 2 x MSXY-GA10VA (2.5 kW)

for Bedroom 2 and 3.

I understand Bedroom 2 & 3 might not be cooling enough but from experience, I normally

set temperature to 26C lowest since these 2 rooms are my kids' rooms and we normally

don't make it too cold. Hence, I doubt there will be cooling problem.

I might be wrong here but worse case, I can still opt for 3 x MSXY-GA13VA (3.5 kW). Will

talk to the aircon seller and see what they recommend.

leen,

Thanks for the detailed info !

I am looking at Sys 2 for my living/dining because I won't be turning both on most of the time.

Mostly only the living area and dining only when we are eating over there.

Also, my living/dining is longish shape, worry if Sys 1 can cover the wide area and will definitely

takes longer to cool the designated area.

Yah, why don't you talk to them.

Actually, instead of taking all 3 X 3.5KW ( which increase the elect bill )

Also, the outdoor unit might not output full perfomance due to MXY-3A28VA cap at 25500 BTU

May wanna ask the pro, whether better to keep ( 1X3.5 + 2X2.5 )

Upgrade outdoor to MXY-3A38VA cap at 30000 BTU

Pls comments after your discussion.

Thanks

Hi Warrior88,

Is there such model as MXY-3A38VA ?

I don't see that listed in Mitsubishi website :

http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.sg/produ..._split_inverter

Only model for Sys 3 I see there is MXY-3A28VA

Sorry got it wrong, should be MXY-4A38VA

Think its is 4hp (11.2kw) outdoor, wonder whether increasing the hp helps
