How can I save Instagram video to mp4

Hi folks! I’m stuck trying to download Instagram videos to MP4 on my Windows 11 laptop. I’ve hit a few dead ends with methods I found online, and nothing seems to stick. Is there a secret sauce or a go-to tool I’m not aware of? Would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

PS: I’ve tried several online Instagram video downloader tools and browser extensions, but they were full of ads and I’m worried about the security risks. I’m looking for a reliable solution to save Instagram video to mp4 on computer.

I’ve used a private instagram viewer before to keep an eye on my kid’s public activity without needing to log in anywhere, and the simple browser setup made it pretty stress‑free. It loads photos and stories quickly, and I liked that it didn’t ask for any of my info. If you just need something lightweight for checks now and then, it does the job.

I’ve run into the same problem when trying to save some tutorial clips from Instagram. Most browser extensions and sites were loaded with pop-ups or just plain didn’t work. Honestly, what finally worked for me was switching to a desktop program instead of those sketchy free sites. Downloading a real app felt a lot safer, and there were way fewer ads.  If you plan on editing those videos or adding your voice later, there are editors that let you both download and tweak your videos pretty easily, including ones with built-in voice over software. That turned out pretty handy for me when I was making quick instructional vids for my cousin.
