Recommendation For A Decent Sound System.

Recommended Posts

Well I gave my 18.DFS side speakers a proper tryout last night.

The Fifth Element Bluray and it sounded great. Still need to replace the now missing sub and the front could use with boosting up with a better centre but the sides were great. Bullets whizzing everywhere around the room.

I was also surprised at the number and quality of effects in The Fifth Element. There really is quite a lot of surround data to give your sides a good workout.

You have a 7.1 set up?

You have a 7.1 set up?

Yep although it uses 5.1 for the most part. The 7.1 is artificial as most movies that I have come across have 5.1/6.1 sound tracks. This was a bit disappointing but as I can use the 7.1 rear channels (the 7.1 back sides are used as 5.1 rears) to bi-amp my front speakers it is not such a big loss. Once I get some more cable, I will have 90w/driver rather than 90w/speaker on the fronts which will hopefully make a bit of difference.

I finally got to watch Tron in HD last night. Not bad.

Took a couple of pics last night so will put them up in a little while in my T-Blog thread.

I loved Sherlock even with an American in the lead role :D. But I like Robert Downey Jr in just about all of his recent stuff. Kickass is great. So politically incorrect and not what I expected at all. The 'getting used to being shot' scene was fantastic. If you loved that then go see Zombieland. Both films are very much of the same style.

I will put up a list later but I know I brought around 300 dvds to Singapore 4 years ago and must have bought around 100 more since then so I will leave those out :P .

I have watched a couple of the older films but never really got in to them. This is the first one I really liked but you have to remember the technology available to tell the story was distinctly lacking compared to today.

A friend of mine got very upset when rumours started that Sherlock Holmes would be gay in the movie. He is an avid fan. He also gets wound up when we suggest that Tintin is a bit dodgy travelling around the world, a young boy with an old sailor and a girls dog. The Thompson twins are very suspect too with their Hitler moustaches ;). All for jest but some people take these things very seriously. Luckily he is a good sport....

Not sure whether we refer to the same modern adaption of sherlock holmes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_(TV_series).

It's the story where sherlock holmes uses handphones ... :D
