Do You Need a Cold Room for Your Products?

Maintenance & Repair

Modern people cannot imagine the world without refrigerators. It is indeed an essential item that stores and preserves food items safely. The refrigeration process is not only effective for residential setups, commercial kitchens, and many other businesses need proper refrigeration facilities and will become non-existent if they cannot use the refrigeration process. Hence, there is more than one reason to choosing cold room installation in Singapore.

For preserving products, businesses in Singapore mostly use a walk-in cold room. So, if you have to preserve products for a longer period, you must know the following:

What is a cold room?

A cold room or cold storage room is nothing but a bigger version of your home refrigerator into which you can walk. It is a place that prevents spoilage of fresh, ready-to-eat, and frozen goods maintaining a consistent temperature. Some food items and chemicals are unstable and need to be kept in such facilities so that their deterioration can be avoided.

Businesses that deal with such items, can enjoy peace of mind by storing their perishable goods in optimal conditions and increasing their shelf life. Such facility for commercial storage of various types of stocks is done following the required legal standards in Singapore.

What is the temperature in a cold room?

The insulated, refrigerated room is designed to maintain a set temperature that usually varies between -2˚ C to 10˚ C.  The temperature is set according to the items or products stored inside the cold room. If the item requires less than -2˚ C temperature, it is also possible to set that up. The room can be converted into a freezer, providing ultra-cold storage, setting a temperature between -50 ˚ C and -80 ˚ C.

The frozen foods are kept at a temperature of below 0 ˚ C, local fruits and vegetables can be preserved at 0 ˚ C, and the tropical and subtropical fruits require a temperature of 5 to 13 ˚ C to maintain and keep their freshness intact. So, the temperature requirement of every item varies from one another and what will be the temperature of the room will depend upon the products that you will keep inside it.

Who needs a cold room?

Cold rooms are used by those industries in Singapore that need to preserve their supplies at a certain temperature. The food processing industry and commercial kitchens require cold rooms to preserve the nutrition of the food and prevent it from rotting. Along with processed food items, they preserve a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, chicken, fish, yogurt, beverages, and soon.

Commercial spaces like hypermarkets, convenience stores, and retail stores selling fish or meat in Singapore also make use of the well-designed cold storage systems. Other than the food items, chemicals, cosmetics, and medicines can also be stored in the cold rooms. Such rooms are beneficial for many sectors like pharmacy, industrial production, hospitality, and other places where different items have to be stored at a certain temperature.

Why it is advantageous to use a cold room?

A cold room is not much different from other refrigeration systems. It is a giant freeze that has a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, and fans that help to maintain a certain temperature within the space. So, a big freezer can be used in place of a cold storage room to keep the stuff. However, cold rooms are ideal when you have to keep a large amount of stock at a certain temperature for the long term.

Apart from keeping the products at a freezing temperature, there are other advantages of cold storage.

Stocking large quantity

The storage space in a cold room is huge, and lots of stocks can be fitted at a time. Usually, there are racks and the products are kept organized on them. So, it becomes a lot easier to find things as you walk into the storage.  It is a warehouse where you can keep all your stock. Keeping the goods in one space helps consolidate the inventory and it becomes easier to keep track of sales and purchases.

Cost-effective

One of the major advantages of having cold storage is that it can save a lot of money. The food industry is always concerned about the longevity of the products. Since cold storage can limit the spoilage of the products, these are cost-effective solutions. Modern cold storage also focuses on using minimum energy, so that it is not harmful to the environment.

Though it is advantageous to have a cold room, selecting the exact design that will meet your requirements is challenging. You must analyse your requirements to make the best selection. Moreover, you must compare the best deals to ensure the right purchase. All you need is to consult with reliable and efficient cold room services in Singapore to select the best one for your business.
