The Basics of Interior Designing That You Must Know

Interior Design & Decor

Sometimes, during the rush of mapping out potential home renovation ideas, we tend to concentrate only on the big picture, while accidentally neglecting smaller elements. Your head may be wrapped around assigning themes to specific rooms, while your hands busy themselves on furniture sites, debating which pieces to grab off the net.

Not many people really stop to think about the more minuscule details, until they have to forcefully face them. To ease the hassle of unexpected issues arising along the way, we've compiled a list of elementary components to think through before you begin planning out your ideal home.

1. Colour

Before you begin adding all sorts of furniture to your online shopping cart, make sure you have carefully thought your colour scheme through. It would be a disaster to have everything bought and delivered, only to realize your wall colours don't quite go with your furniture.

If you find yourself unable to decide on a wall colour, try basing the decision on feelings you wish to associate with each room. Colour brings the space to life, so allow it to closely correspond with the mood you wish to evoke.

2. Texture

Now that you have decided on a shade, you may want to venture into the experimenting with textures. Having the colour merely slapped on your walls might be the easiest way out, but it's not necessarily the prettiest. Adding texture sometimes makes a world of a difference.

Opt for grooves if you want a more refined look, bricks for something edgier, or even a pop-out motif to add character. If you'd like something more outstanding, try wallpaper; they have countless unique textures to choose from. You don't have to use textures on all sides to create an effect, sometimes even just applying it to a single wall will suffice.

3. Lighting

Purchasing fancy lights with avant grade designs may sound like fun, but the essential factor to think about is the sufficiency of your home lighting. Sacrificing good lighting for the sake of aesthetic is going to backfire on you in the long run.

Poor lighting may cause you to constantly feel annoyed, but by then it'll be a little too late to wish you had made a different choice. We suggest investing in a variety of lights per room, each for different purposes.

Select main lights which are bright enough for the entire room, while investing in separate ceiling lights or lamps that aren't as brightly lit, for days when you wish to just kick back.

4. Balance

If a room isn't balanced, you're always going to feel a little off every time you step foot in there. It's endlessly going to bug you, so do not underestimate the power of balance.

There are two aspects to this: colour and space.

Firstly, ensure the overall colour scheme doesn't clash, by putting together furniture and accessories which complement one another. Choose designs that won't feel too overpowering when placed side by side too. If you're unsure about colour combinations, engage the help of a colour wheel and note down complementary colours to add to your scheme.

Even things out in your room as well;  avoid leaving one part of it almost empty, while squeezing a bunch of elements into another area. Equally space everything out, or else the overall vibe is probably not going to sit very well with you.

Although these factors may not seem significant, their importance will definitely become obvious in time to come. Keeping a lookout for them will help prevent any oversight when making decisions, ensuring as little regret as possible!
