Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Coming up next on our renovation list will be the painting work that will start in a few days time. Colour selection is not easy for me when it comes to picking a colour from the standard paint color brochure from Nippon Paint or ICI Dulux because none of them is to our liking. The colours that I like belong to a special range of paint that requires some professional mixing but what worries me is the additional cost that I may need to fork out. And so it was a struggle for me during the last few days thinking which range of colours to choose, forcefully accept the standard range or pick my own speical colours.

In the end, my bosses had encouraged me to follow my heart and choose the ones that I like. So now, I am very happy and excited to see how our home is going to look like with colours.

Went to take a peek at our home today morning to check on the renovation status and we saw a few uncles painting our home but I think they have just completed the 1st coat of paint yesterday so the colours are not really the true colours that we have selected. Hopefully the effect will be nicer after a few coats.

Living room - Banyan Tree (ICI Master Palette)

Master Bedroom - Early Rose (ICI Wash & Wear)

Study Room - Timothy Hay (ICI Master Palette)

Lovely pastels...your place is going to look so sweet with pastel colours everywhere! :)

I just hope that whatever colour had been applied is a right choice. What worries me is my kitchen cabinet as I am the one doing the design and telling the contractor what to do...keeping my fingers crossed

Is the design you posted the final design?

Hi Homeowner,

Well...I can only say that they have just painted the colours that I want to my "canvas", so there will be more to come. hehe... :)

Hi Odie,

Thanks for the encouragement...but so far for the renovation, I did most of the things with my guts feeling because there is not much reference on the kind of colour scheme and home concept that I am planning to do.

Finally I am seeing the woodwork coming in today and intentionally took leave to go over to take a peek. The wardrobe is the master bedroom is almost done and as for the kitchen, I can only see the guys mounting the white wooden boxes to the walls. I am very eager to see what is the final result of my self-proposed kitchen design. Suppose to have a lab sink (aka coffee shop sink) mounted but my contractor told me that they are very scared to do the sink because they have to do an opening to the cupboard surface and my sink is kind of unusual for home use. Cold sweat for them...pheww!

Then my walls are giving some problems. Firstly is the painted colours because they varies a bit on different walls but my contractor tried to give me a crappy reason like it is due to the light source, but I managed to shut him off by telling him that colors is part of the nature of work so better not challenge me with it. Then the second problem is kind of critical because there is a spot of watermark appearing on one of the walls in the study room. My wife is going to call the town council tomorrow and hope that they will come soon.

Another head throbbing matter will be my floor because after the 2nd round of touch up to my cement finish flooring, I can see some ugly patches. Then the climax moment is when he told me that it is the 1st time for him and his workers to see a home with cement finish floor. So they are inexperience with the final finishes, going to faint man....

sumobear,

Nice pastel colours... some of the colours you chose were also choices i made... glad to see that they turn out quite well.

I noted that you did not fully tile your kitchen wall. Actually, i also feel that full tiling doesnt seem necessary. But did your contractor say what sort of problem it could pose? personally, i feel it is ok.

Yellow cabinet?

Heee.... gotta be v nice ...cant wait to see that :dancingqueen::) BTW, is that 10ft by 10ft?

I was pondering over red, orange or yellow... love to have a happy kitchen place.

hope u post more pics.

The reason why I am going for pastel color is because most of the modern homes are using very commercially-driven kind of colour scheme and pastel colour range is a part which not many people has explored with their home. Probably pastel is something soft but I am going to do something to balance the softness once I get the renovation completed.

For the kitchen tiling matter, I actually did full tiling for the kitchen in my current home but I think it is not neccesary as you are unable to see the tiles when the cupboards are fixed. I think it is good to tile areas that will be exposed to water even if it is on the other side of the wall. Lesser tiles means lesser $$$, 1 piece of tile can be a plate of chicken rice for your lunch...so imagine how many packets of "chicken rice" that you are going to paste on your wall? That is what I joked about with my friends...haha

As for the colour choice that you have mentioned, I have orange for my current home's kitchen featured wall and it is compliment by white surrounding...love it until today. Not sure which kind of yellow are you refering to but my new home's kitchen is pastel yellow. As for red, it is a very emotional colour because it can represent many different kind of mood and so it all depends on how you pick and match colour for your kitchen.

Not so sure about the size of the cabinet? Are you refering to the whole unit? If it is the whole unit, I think it is more than that.

Cheers!:sport-smiley-004:

Hi Mist...

I just hope that the furnishing we have in mind works with the colours.

I think we are quoted less than 2K for the flooring but the cement is overlaying existing tiles, and the coverage is the living room and bedrooms. The funny part is that our contractor and his workers are very puzzled with the flooring as they are unable to visualise what kind of home are we going to have.

nice colours! hope to see more updates! !!

Hi Joyz,

thanks for the encouragement....

So nice....

Went to take a peek at the renovation yesterday evening and we are so happy and surprised to see more things done up especially the kitchen...the design that I have been visualising in my mind for weeks turns out to be the same exactly, our smiles are from ear to ear! We have a happy kitchen! The lab sink is so nice. Very eager to see the completed kitchen with the water tap and solid surface mounted on this coming week.

Our lightings and fan are done but I do need the dimmers to soften the light as the track lights are too bright that they wash out my wall colour.

The wardrobe in our MBR is also completed and there is a pull out mirror but I am not sure if we should have a grip to move the sliding door...Mrs Sumobear ska Little Bear is complaining that it kind of difficult to slide as the surface is too smooth to hold on.
