I wish to share my experience last few months when choosing a ID/contractor to renovate my resale arm flat in pasir ris. Months before deciding to get the house, we started to source for IDs and contractors. Before everything, i thought that IDs will be a better choice as they seem more legit however, after experiencing some of the ID companies, we decided to go for contractor. ( because a lot of IDs charge hidden fees and ID fees and what nots, plus a lot of them are quite young with not much experience. ) So i got referred by my colleague to this contractor cum ID. He is in the field for about 25 years and hence have a lot of experience. We actually have an idea of how we would like our house to be so we told him of our idea and most of the time he accommodate to our ideas but when our idea wasn't practical he immediately pointed out. I think we benefitted a lot from this "extra service" as i do not think younger IDs with less experience can match up. Moreover, he offered me a super good price and i must say the workmanship and quality of materials are of high standards. We were very happy with the outcome of the reno. Right from the start, we found him to be very sincere and straightforward. If he thinks that certain things shouldn't be this way he will let us know and advise us on the alternatives. He gave us many options and opinions which made us felt comfortable. Also, his service was very good as he is always contactable and will reply. We can tell that he is very passionate about his job as he always tells us how a home should be done and feel. We decided to share our story here because we really saved a lot of money and we know that many people will be in the same situation as us and we will like to share this good experience with everyone and at the same time hopefully he will benefit from our sharing by getting more customers! Anyone interested please let me know.

Read many blogs and search through many years of older posting to aid in the renovation journey. Really appreciate those who posted and we really benefitted a lot in terms of knowledge gathered. We took our keys in September/October 2014 period (i'm bad with dates) and started looking for ID. Long story short, 5 ID, 1 ID was selected due to good value for the price paid. The 5 IDs are well known ones as well but when we compare Apple to Apple on some of the items, we can see a significant margin gap from a well known vs a less well known. 5 quotes: Range from 18-30k. We could have done it much cheaper with lesser additional items like glass partition, toilet glass partition, blum aventos, display cabinet, work station, pull out kitchen drawer. Without all these will make the reno in the range of 17-18k. So it really depends on how much additional you want to spend. End up we chose a less experience ID to do the job with no fancy 3D drawing like some of the ID. It is really a risk for us because we really do not know how it would turn out to be. Moreover, we did not utilize any of the theme such as minimalist, scandi, industrial, etc.... we just simply do as accordance to our lifestyle. I'll not divulge our choice of ID until our reno is complete, which is somewhere targeted April, May period. Reno is almost done, for those who are asking for my ID contact, please PM me your email address or reply to this thread. Prior to the start of the reno, we started purchasing things online and from local shops. Most of the items are from Amazon to make good use of the free shipping to Singapore. I'll try to do a link for some of the items we have purchased and give a review or direct a link on information that affected our purchase. So does my ID. I'm so satisfied with the service quality & workmanship he'd provided that I'd like to recommend him to all who're looking for a good & responsible contractor for house reno. P/S: By the way, comparing to those big names in this service sector, my ID is cheaper. Considering the value-added services he provided, he's really value for money.

Ok back to my contractor selection. As i mentioned, i have met many contractors/ID and almost all the popular contractors and ID from renotalk. haha..crazy right. The process is very tiring but i really need to find the right one after spending so much on the COV. Not much cash liao. Have to spend wisely this time. All my three shortlisted ID, i find it very confortable communicating with them: ID J: Speaks mandarin and not comfortable talking in English, but he is very patient and responsive. He will offer advice to me and brought me to his projects. ID R: Speaks English only, very patience, responsible and creative. He is able to offer many creative advices. One thing to note he is very busy as he is the boss and have serveral projects on hand at the same time. ID S: My friend recommended him to me. A very quiet guy, he will just listen to what you need but will also give suggestion when need to. According to my friend though he is quiet and very busy (he is the boss) but his workmanship is very good. Anything you need him to do just text him and he will get it done. Price wise he is the most competitive. The rest of the ID that i had met i would not mention or give any feedbacks maybe i don't have that much chemistry with them so dun wan to break their rice bowls. Sometime these depends on fate as well. I would recommend the above 3 ID as I know they are at least the proper one. But if you don't have any design idea or concept and looking for those ATAS ID firm, maybe they are not the one for you. Ok back to my Final ONE! Surprise, surprise he is none of the above. He is the black horse...last minute crossed my finishing line if not my final choice would be one of the three above. hahahaa In actual fact, I rejected him before because his initial quote was way beyond my budget. He then followed up with me again and asked me how he can help me to meet my budget by trying his best since i was referred to him. At first, i was kinda skeptical as I'm not sure how much he could reduce. I had read about him in RenoTalk before and he was referred to me by other forumer so i knew what how good he is, plus seeing him so sincere i decided to give them another try and met up with them to review my plan again. What i liked about him is he is very sincere and knowledgeable. He tried to match my budget without removing the items i want and advice using other materials to substitute what i needed to achieve my design. This is what i call creative and problem solving. I had met up with some ID who want to revise their quotations with me but were only asking me to take out the items. WTH! This is not solving my problem; they are just looking for an easy way out. I'm also very frank with my ID that i don't not have much cash left and have many other financial burdens at the moment. After negotiating and discussing with him, he finally gave me his best price. It's slightly over my budget but acceptable for me to stretch that bit. Ok, time to reveal. My selected ID is Donny and James aka TEAM DJ. They are a team so those of you who have followed others T-blogs would have read about them too. This is another good thing, cause i have two persons managing my home reno. Donny is very experienced and knowledgeable on the technical apects, while James is more towards design aspect. So when i need technical advice i will get Donny and design advice i will get James. Till now i would say they are good and very efficient. Most importantly. they are very responsive and responsible. Whenever i need to ask them something they will always get back to me even if i cannot get them right away, they will call me or sms me back later. The whole reno progress is fast and smooth, hehehe maybe a little too fast for me to catch my breathe. I will update the my progress...stay tuned. Those who need my contractor contact please feel free to PM me. Happy to share with you. Highly recommended.
