  1. seems like bad things come in pairs...... as if we do not have enough problem with the renovation, we are faced with another nightmare.... on Saturday morning, we received a call from our contractor saying that someone has splashed paint on our main door!!!! we rushed down saw something that we never thought would happen to us ...... yellow paint splashed across our front door with writings scribbled in blue "O$P$ #21-XXX" we called the police who arrived 15 mins later to take statement, pictures ..... and that they will also be taking statement from the 21 floor occupants of the said 21st floor unit....there was little comfort knowing that the case would be handled over to the CID for further investigation..... the harm has already been done curious, we went up and saw that the #21 unit actually has a CCTV installed above their door!!! we went to the 22nd floor and saw signs of paint be splashed on the main door also..... but clearly, it was done some time ago as the town council has already repainted the surrounding walls clearly this is not the first time it happened.... and we were puzzled why it is still happening.... town council has installed CCTVs in our block a few months back.... at the ground floor lift lobby, in all lifts and 1 facing the stairs .... - are the CCTVs recording the images? or just like the ones in the MRT station a year ago installed just for "monitoring purposes"? - with the CCTV and prior cases of harassment, what has the police and town council done to prevent similar cases from happening? sigh........

  4. sigh... we confirm liao... but he say can onli order after his carpenter take the exact measurements after our flooring is complete.... then he waited 2 weeks after the flooring done to get carpenter to measure spoke to him liao... says will try to rush the kitchen ones first.... hopefully wun delay too long....
  5. received call from ID that carpentry internal laminate no stock.... even laminate flooring no stock..... so everything delay until end of the month.... now super sianz.... low morale.....
  6. hi, perhaps you could consider some "non-physical dividers".... such as different tiles, different false ceiling setup or even different lightings.... this way without the physical dividers, the whole place will surely look and feel more spacious.... with regards to the mirror feature wall, you can consider black/brown tinted mirror... they will give a more classy feel and finger prints will not be as visible.... alternatively can consider some laminate and mirror combination.... cheers
  7. i saw a Yale set .... lock, handle everything going for $129 from a neighborhood hardware shop.... the uncle have a demo set and says has been using the demo set for past 10 years and no issues with the mechanism.... thinking of getting it to replace mine....
  8. hi, you can try song cho... they carry the popular welmi stainless steel range... more expensive than other brands but very durable.... they have branches in plaza singapura, amk central etc...
  9. hi, i was quoted 320 for my MBR toilet toilet PD door... can choose design for 4 panels.... left top, left bottom, right top right bottom....(more expensive if want more complicated design) using normal top hung bifold for common toilet @ 250....
  10. Hi, can anyone advise whether instant water heater can be fitted together with rain shower? i have heard ppl saying that it cannot be done as the water pressure is not strong enough.... but a few years back i have seen someone install both the instant heater and rain shower and works.... i have noticed that the water pressure for my flat is quite strong.... anyone has prior experience or advice?
  11. hi, just to add on that samsung will most probably give you the same reply if they are unsure that the box up is able to withstand the weight.... they will not want to be responsible for any damages
  12. hi, did you tell your contractor that you wanted to mount a LCD TV at the box up area beforehand? they need to be informed before hand so that they can include steel backing so that the box up is strong enough to withstand the LCD weight.... if you have already informed them beforehand, it is their responsibility to make sure they construct the box up with the correct materials.... there is no need for you to bear any responsibilities.... i have seen ppl mount a 50" pioneer kuros onto a plywood false wall with steel backings....

    Doors

hi, you can try PD doors..... http://www.pddoor.com/ although they are more pricey than other normal swing and bi-fold doors, they are more durable ... they are also PSB tested and approved....

  15. hi, with the number of things you wish to do, i would recommend that you engage a contractor to oversee the whole project.... besides the waiting and coordinating part that zhiz has pointed out, you also need to be very familiar with the whole flow of things to be successful.... points to consider: hdb renovation permit - you need approval from hdb before proceeding with the renovation and also approval changing of the floor plans (i.e. hacking of walls and changing location of doors) hacking - if possible, all hacking should be perform before any other jobs... if you engage different contractor to perform the hacking on different parts, you will be charged extra on the hacking job and debris removal... normally hacking and debris removal will just take 1 to 3 days depending on the scale.... painting works - normally painters will apply 2 - 3 coats of paint to give you the best effect and 1 - 2 days in between coats for drying.... and as you are performing quite a major reno, you can apply the different coats at different stages to save time... (easier if you have a single contractor to coordinate) price - if you engage a single contractor for the whole project, it gives you more bargaining power to ask for a lower price... hope the above helps cheers
  16. although there is always a certain level of risk when it comes to renovation, if you plan carefully, know exactly what you want and most importantly have everything that is discussed and agreed in writing and signed, then it should be pretty safe.... there will be something for you to fall back on if something happens.... and never agree to pay in full before everything is delivered and done up properly.... cheers
  17. yes, especially the COV... had to turn to other places cos cant afford the COV.... congrats Clazsique
  18. thanxs mickey if my ID can deliver within the same time frame then there wun be much delay.... i understand its the reno "peak" period.... but my ID spent 2 whole weeks.... 21/12 to 31/12 just doing the electrical and false ceiling ....
  19. yes, i agree.... and they are also prone to cracks especially with the difference in temperature....
  20. hi, i am not sure of the side-effects of using cement screed.... but overlaying of tiles is commonly know to be the cheaper alternative to hacking and re-laying the tiles.... there is much less work to be done.... the hacking, the clearing of debris and to "smoothen" the hacked surface.... epoxy resin will add a layer of gloss to the surface and might not fit the requirement of having a "raw" feel..... and epoxy is definitely prone to cracks and peeling.... not recommended for heavy usage places such as toilets.... a lot of users have feedbacked about regrets of using epoxy resin.... cheers
  21. Hi kevin_e, your reno works still ongoing with ME? do you know if they have moved office or changed name? i have a 1k deposit with them and has not been able to contact them since last year....
  22. hi, we have also considered using ikea for our new house.... flooring, wardrobe and kitchen cabinet but decided against it in the end.... although the list price is cheaper... but after you add in the accessories, delivery and installation costs, there is not much difference in the pricing anymore... also, ikea is also not as customizable as contractors for the parts are already fix and there is a limit to how you can play around with the individual parts.... however, in terms of durability, i have previously quite a few pieces of ikea furniture for the last 4 years and no issue... wardrobe, shoe cabinet and study table... the materials seems quite solid and dun sound like chipboard.... hope this helps
  23. FYI..... i got all my tiles and mosiac from them.... recommended by ID... we went there on a sunday afternoon and 2 storey of shop is very crowded.... the salesman who attended to us is very friendly and knowledgeable explaining to us every query we have however, as i have not visited other tiles shop so cannot comment on how extensive their range of tiles are....
  24. anyone knows normally how long the carpentry will take after the measurement?
