  1. there is a chrome pipe which came with the bottle trap - we were wondering why the box of the chrome bottle trap was so big; then saw the pipe there. i'm sure the plumber is not new on the job. why didn't he use it!?!?!? ooooh, so pissed now.... the husband is equally upset about the pipings... gg to hound the id every day until that pvc pipe is changed, and the copper pipings are taken down
  2. the wife is pissed 1. the copper piping is ugly 2. there is a white pvc pipe under the common bathroom sink tho she spent money buying a chrome bottle trap 5 times as exp as a PVC one. if the wife wanted PVC, why even bother changing the bottle trap?? copper piping with ugly pvc pipe contrasting with the chrome bottle trap have asked the id to change the piping; will ask him to change that pipe too, else the wife will be very angry. never mess with an angry woman
  3. how can we determine the quality of the stainless steel used? what is a reasonable high grade one which will not rust? our ID installed copper piping when we indicated we want stainless steel piping - going to ask him to redo all in stainless steel; but wanna know how to know the grade of stainless steel so he doesn't take us for a ride. anyone able to advise? thanks

  5. is this gg to be your main door, as in door to ur house? is it fire-rated? we also dislike the current door, but cos its fire-rated, and changing it will cost more than $1000. in the end, we're going to pay $120 to sand off the current designs on the door, and give it a fresh coat of paint/lacquer and change the lock.
  6. we were toying with the idea of a L-shaped layout for kitchen too, but its so narrow, we were worried the walking space would be compromised. also, our rubbish chute is on the side of the wall nearer to the wall opp the the window, so we can't build cabinets all the way there. this kitchen....is the source of a lot of headaches. no wonder the ex-owners hacked the storeroom away to increase space
  7. ur SCV point is a little exp - ours was $100, n already one of the most ex we haf seen around
  8. alot of the accessories in my office are fm "i wanna go home" - mostly cheena looking stuff tho if u want, i can take pics and show u.....
  9. serious? must let my fren know tt man....
  10. hi circles, i think the wall should be fine as we will have a 2m TV console placed in front of the 1.5m feature wall hi coke, we're not quite sure of the completion. latest should be by early Sep, though our ID said chances of complete by end Aug is quite high as we're ahead of schedule.
  11. choo chiang sells it - we got the same one just last weekend. cost about $17 altogether only, for the chime + switch. good and cheap the guy assured us the sound is loud enuff to hear
  12. why can't the basin be moved because of the wall? are the pipes connected to that wall? seems off alignment - i would think u want the basin to be @ the centre of the mosiac design. agree tt should get the plumber to move it
  13. r u having a white kitchen concept too? looks big and bright, the place. else, i think the kitchen might be the darkest place in the house, cos of the limited light going in via those windows. how long more scheduled for ur reno?
  14. max length into the lift is 2 metres. full height of hdb from floor to ceiling is 2.5 to 2.6m, depending on age of ur flat
  15. my best fren has a dishwasher... she only uses it when there are lots of dishes to wash during gatherings and stuff one major gripe about it - u can't just throw the dirty plates with the oil and stuff into it u have to at least give everything a rinse before it can be put into the washer, so it actually takes up quite abit of time oredi
  16. ha from your requirements, i think you need a maid
  17. thanks! we really hope that the project will turn out well and nice. we're kind of worried that we're not able to achieve the kind of feel we wanted. time to shop for decorative stuff!
  18. ha yeah, we kinda regretted not visiting CC earlier as it's pretty near to our new place. anyway the cheaper legrand Mallia series which we're supposedly given by our electrician (hope i got the spelling correct) isn't expensive. getting it from such suppliers probably saved you quite a bit. the downlights we bought at Chan Huat wasn't really much more expensive than Lights Arcade, so we decided to get ours there. I think we got a bit of discount for the near 30 pieces of downlights we bought. also, the balast given was supposedly some european (i think finland) brand which has low replacement cost. so we're crossing our fingers as for commission, it's kind of unspoken. so during negotiations, we tell our ID that 'alamak, u sure got earn from this one. earning lesser via lower quotes is better than not earning anyting mah. win-win situation lor' and all the best for your reno
  19. ha thanks, pinkpetter. actually the gaps didn't really make the wall look natural coz they appear consistently at a regular interval. our ID said that the tilers will fill the fine gaps with cement or something. we're still waiting for something miraculous to happen thanks, sohck. actually, we can't imagine the level of effort needed to clean this wall. perhaps our trusty and wonderful 3M/Magiclean dusters will do the trick as the surface isn't as rough as it appears. thanks, pbtgal. actually, we can't remember the price of this wall tile and didn't bother remembering it as it was FOC from our ID woohoo... the length of the wall given FOC is 5 feet. hubby wished for 10feet but ID was afraid of overkilling the living/dining/foyer areas. we're supposed to have some small feature walls here and there. one of which is the cement tile wall that you see right at the main entrance. there were many pretty resort/balinese feature wall tiles that we found nice but had to give up due to budget constraint so pretty... many of them...
  20. my fren has both the roomba and scooba - 1 for sweeping, 1 for mopping... she and her hubby can't live without it. but @ the end of the day, her poor hubby always has to clear out the dust bag. so sohck, will u be doing the dust bag clearing?
  21. white does give the entire place a more spacious and brighter feeling... very nice
  22. gee, 2 weeks is fast u must be looking forward to it. ur reno is quite fast - about 5 weeks or so for a major revamp? superb man
  23. we had the same dilemma when deciding on the kitchen backing. asked several people in this forum, and my own frens who have done their houses. both glass and stainless steel are prone to staining, and they have to be cleaned regularly, or the marks can be quite ugly. glass: prone to mould if ur contractor doesn't mound it properly and ensure water isn't able to seep into the backing between the wall and glass s/s: will rust after a while, no matter how good ur s/s quality is. make sure ur contractor gives u good quality ones. also scratches more easily than glass. fyi, we decided to use glass; my office uses a s/s backing; and after just 3 months, it looks gross. maybe lower grade s/s, and no one bothers to maintain it, since its just the office
  24. yes, u r right most of the ids propose a modern concept (even tho' we told them what we wanted); only after maybe 2/3 meetings, then then ideas n concepts slowly change.
