I like rainbowguy's one too. In fact, we dropped by at lightings.com with our ID when we went to Living Vision to finalise the furniture colour a few weeks ago and we were considering between rainbowguy's choice and this one: We like the brilliant scattering by the bubbles of the pendant lamp but felt that it may not provide sufficient illumination to the dining area because the bulb is hidden behind the metal casing. The 'hanging pendant' is simple, sleek and very bright (the actual one looks nicer than the picture because of its brightness). It is also very easy to clean or change bulb. But then I am also worried that it will be too glaring. Any comments?

Personally I won't pay an ID just to produce 3D drawings before I confirm I am engaging him for my reno. The reason is simple - if after seeing (and paying for) the 3D drawings I decide to engage another ID, this second ID is not going to give me the $1000 discount. Furthermore, I think it is only fair that I let the second ID propose what he wants rather asking him to use the drawings of another ID.

We just booked a LG system 4 Inverter from Gain City IMM. Total damage is $3299 not including the extended 5-year warranty. Now I have a few questions: 1. The extended warranty costs $399. Is it useful? We are likely to use only the air cons in the study and MBR more often, say every evening during the hotter months. Will we need the warranty? I read from this forum that LG air cons are cheap but their parts are expensive. The Gain City salesperson did not tell me that. 2. The current air cons are still in good condition. How much can I sell them away? Gain City says we don't have to pay for their removal ($150) provided we give them the old air con. But if I can sell them at more than $150 then why not I just pay Gain City $150? Can any experts give some advice?

the reno cost is 60k. Rather high because i have many built in cabinets, such as wardrobes, study, feature walls, storage cabinet in dining room, shoes cabinets etc. I paid $6888 for the dining set + 2 high chairs for BF counter + bed and matress + bedside table+ leather sofa (3+1) + coffee table, all from Living Vision. This I think is quite cheap after checking out prices for individual items in other shops .

Thanks. My ID says he will give us the revised drawings after we select the tiles. But then I think I should request for the revised drawings so that I know what tiles to choose. We are choosing tiles in mid January, so I will need him, or maybe his computer, to work hard for me .

Hi, I think it all depends on whether you can afford the time to meet the IDs and repeat your request to all of them. For me, since I have the time, I went to see each one personally so that we could exchange opinions directly and they can propose a layout closer to what I want. And through talking to them you may get good ideas from different IDs and end up with a better design . Happy reno ahead .

This morning we went for our first appointment and we agreed with the sellers that the second appointment will be 8 February. However, knowing that we hope to start our reno by end January, they will tell their lawyer to speed up the purchase of their condo so that they can shift out as early as possible. We are really hopping to start the reno by end Jan because our ID says that if we can start the reno 2 weeks before CNY he will try his best to complete the reno before our wedding in mid March. Let's hope everything goes smoothly .

I just contacted the sellers and they say they plan to shift out by 6 Feb. After hearing our appeal they say they will ask their lawyer to complete their purchase asap and see if they can shift out by end Jan. So I am keeping my fingers crossed...

Wah, this HDB officer is too busybody I think. My sellers are very nice people so I am hopping that they will agree on an earlier date for second appointment. Thanks for the info .

Hi Ocean, it is good that you are also trying to help AS's victims by introducing them directly to the sub-contractors. For Jaskel. he is also helping them in his own ways. Both of you are unable to reduce the victims' loss to zero but as long as you help them to cut their loss then I think both of you should be commended.

Thanks. no wonder the agent (she is the sellers' agent though I also have to pay her commission ) told us that the 2nd appointment will be around end Feb. During my last visit to the house the owners told me they have found a place and may be able to move out by late Jan. I hope this will come true . This coffee shop is a good place to get information and advice. Maybe I should close my own blog and shift all the posts here since there are many more visitors here .

Hi everyone here, urgent and important question here: How is the second HDB appointment decided? Is it an agreed date between buyers and sellers during first appointment or HDB has a formula to calculate it? My first appointment is on coming Monday and my ID just told me that if I can get the keys two weeks before CNY then he can possibly handover the house to us before our wedding in mid March. We are really excited about this because initially he estimatd the handover to be late April or early May but now he is going to try his best to complete the project fast for us .

Based on the pictures I took of the bathrooms, the shelvings go all the way to the bathroom windows. My ID remember the height wrongly . We met him this afternoon to choose the laminates for all our carpentries and the paint colour. We also discussed using a dark colour vanity top, and using different tiles or mosiacs to beautify the bathrooms. Hope to get the new 3D drawings soon and I will upload for everyone to comment .

Just received the 3D drawings for the bathrooms from my ID: Common Bathroom: MBR Bathroom: I find the designs a bit plain, especially the vanity tops look really pale. Will be discussing with my ID this Saturday on improving the design. Merry Christmas .

Haven't posted anyhting for the past few weeks because my ID was unable to send me the remaining 3D pics due to his busy schedule. But he promised to show us the drawings together with the laminate when we see him in the coming Saturday. Will put up more pics then. We also went back to Living Vision with him to finalise the colours for the furniture last week. Some unhappiness arise initially because the shop owner told us we cannot change the dining chairs to white as promised unless we top up $. But we insisted that we have agreed on white chairs before we paid the deposit. Finally they agreed to try their best to see if they can get the white chairs for us. At that moment, I thought this is just their tactic to increase their profit because they have probably given us too big a discount earlier. But a few days later, I receive a call from them that they are able to give us the chairs in white without additional charges. My wife and I were delighted and I think Living Vision is still an honest furniture distributor. 8 more days to first appointment. When will my second appointment be...

My ID recommends Gain City leh. He says can also try one of the shops next to Gain City in IMM and they are slightly cheaper. He should be referring either to All Best or Best Tech, both of which do not have good reviews here. So most likely I will still go for Gain City and my ID will coordinate the installation for me. What problems did you exactly encounter with GC?

Hi kopi, you got your air con from Gain City? Some forumers here say different branch of Gain City give different discounts. Is that true? Sorry if this doesn't sound relevant to your T-blog but I thought easier to get info from coffee shop .

Hi Zhiz, I went down to Sunflower at City Square Mall to take a look at the clock because my ID says it fits very well to my house's design. I find the 36.5 cm one quite suitable even though my ID has told me to get the 46cm one which looks really big to me. Have you gotten yours from the supplier? Any feedback?

Not sure if I get you correct but I bought one such chair from Vhive about 3 years ago. The brand is LG and the back rest can bend backward. Even when I rest my legs on the study table the chair is still stable. It is also very comfortable. The only thing is it cost me $495. A few weeks ago I saw a somewhat similar chair in a shop (Comfort Furniture) located at the link between furniture mall and Park Royal Hotel at Beach Road. See my signature. As I was in a hurry then, I did not check the stability of the chair but the price is less than $300. You can take a look at their products on their website.

Really? I think most of the forumers here spend less than 50k on renovation but they don't seem to have problems getting an ID.
