  1. woohh we have the same gate and pole system for wardrobe! i love the wardrobe system, loved the industrial looks. (though the majority will be covered by clothes anyway) u getting any doors or plan to use anything to reduce dust in the WIW area...? on the door: yeah the paint does not stick well and mine started to rust soon, especially my area has quite high salt content. oh yes, the rust coverter and oil based paint will surely come in handy. Do also check the area around the gate handle, mine got rust there... looking on the bright side, at least the gate is still cheaper than elsewhere after buying paints.
  2. i was told while shopping at many shops: to play safe, rain shower always need storage heater. no shop owner or sales man dare to recommend instant heater+rain shower set up to us. city gas heater, i believe, was made to provide an alternative to instant heaters...i.e. install one gas heater instead of 2 instant heaters. With a 7l storage for citygas, i doubt it can be a joy using the rain shower.
  3. here, take take abit of this: i bring the bottle for u to try (a bit) on the grille when i get the retro grille ok? its really good!
  4. woah nice! i like the clear glass toilet door...haha... oh and my wife will love the "grill-less" windows! oh i hope u know that u can actually call ikea to check for stock availability? or u just wanna find excuses to go to ikea?
  5. no idea fengshui deals with living in low floors..? i thought all rich people live in low floors, i.e. landed property. practically: carpark noise, funeral noise, coffeshop noise, etc... no good. but then again, i live on 16th floor, also can hear the bus noise at the bus bay.. maybe after a while you would be immune. my grandma lives on the first floor, totally old kind of house. Good thing: she has a super duper big garden in front of her. bad thing: extremely smelly when people come to collect rubbish.
  6. i have a friend. She demands money from her hubby (gets regular bonuses payout) everytime a bonus is paid. Either pay in cash or in kind (handbag). Keyword is "demand". luckily my wife never does that, if not i also wouldnt tell her how much i earn. me and wifey don't really divide out who pays what and who pays how much. we are both very willing and happy to pay for the household expenses. Life is really too short to quarrel over money, not with your wife.
  7. as long as not paid in full, still not so bad la... cheers!
  8. have u checked out spotlight / ikea / neighbourhood shops? a wide range is available at spotlight (plaza sing branch). Me got my blinds from spotlight and installed it ourselves, took a little while to figure out installation.
  9. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?s=...st&p=560745 Post no 437. Done by CNS. Not good, u better check that they paint the underside of your gate and all those areas where u typically will not notice. Cuts corner job. Other forumers like strawberry8 also discovered similar issues, not sure if it was settled. Alternatively u can look out for Dextufo's t-blog as he would be getting his grilles.. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...0&start=120 As for the installation, wifey had to sternly tell them to come and install and no change of dates will be entertained. Then they guai guai come. Hope u had not paid them in full.
  10. Thanks for the compliment! yes the block for knifes is part of the ikea cutlery tray. i think its a discontinued item under the AS-IS department. Can try your luck there!
  11. Adding colour to our home: -a half successful project- Here is why its half successful... Paint also does not stick very well, no primer probably.... But overall still very satisfying!!
  12. of cos need to calculate...its the single biggest commitment financially... HDB also force people to calculate by using the HLE... Banks also grant loans by calculating your income and expenses. anyway where got 99years thing....max loan is till ur retirement age... i would be very surprised if someone buys a house without doing some form of budgeting. The extend of budgeting depends on individual though.
  13. truth is that many people out there earn big bucks, legally or illegally, morally or immorally. If i tell u that u can achieve what you want,i.e. buy more properties, by doing something very immoral --> i often say most bankers selling investments products are immoral. (My apologies if i offend anyone here.) would u want to do it? earn $20k a month by doing something which u are not comfortable with? In the end, its really what u want. Step on people to gain success only to feel remorseful later? Or look at the rich with envy? If you don't know what you want, no one can help u. If you know what you want, you don't need help. Cheers!
  14. saw those sticks at art-friend (Bras basah) but my hse no more lights to play with....
  15. Does this look like a designer piece? Its actually DIY-ed! Its so lovely, looks simple enough and i hope to be able to copy it some day...haha! Source:http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-to-make-mod-chandelier-for-under.html
  16. haha...i thought more people should be aware of the pitfalls... good to hightlight! so i suspect that u have done a spreadsheet to compute your finances as well?
  17. Haha, the plans for reno will keep changing, even during the reno process... if u have the budget, u might want to google for murphy beds or hidden wall beds.
  18. woah...a few hundred psf...? thats really expensive... i got a quote once, around $167 per foot run just for the stainless steel top. It comes with an in built sink as well, so everything is one piece, would be soo soo chio. But in the end i opt for another carpenter who is much cheaper but he does not know how to mould the sink as he is doing mainly woodwork. So in the end, he help me cut a hole and i had to get a seperate sink. do let me know if u need my carpenter's contact.
  19. a $10,000 increase for a 25 year loan will mean an increase in cost for buyer of $12,800 (@ hdb loan rate) spread out over 25 years, only $43 a month. no wonder people think its ok. My perspective: Assuming couple's income is $8k, monthly cpf to ordinary account = $1,840 (young couple) A $10k increase --> $12,800 --> 7months of cpf contribution. So the couple needs to work an additional 7mths for their house for every 10k price increase. So here's the calculation: 20k --> 14mths 50k --> 35mths (nearly 3years) Now it doesn't look as cheap or as OK anymore right?
  20. Say the item in question is a fridge. And delivery was delayed by 2 days. Can i say claim the cost of meat and vegetables that have gone back becos delivery of fridge was delayed? In the fridge seller's mind: "Who ask u go and buy meat when fridge is not here?" In third parties' mind: Same as fridge seller. Reasonably, beds.sg screwed up and they gave u a discount. Many furniture retailers would not even give a hoot, they just say "no choice, its like that one".
  21. u could have easily bought a temporary mattress from neighbourhood shops with the $100 and saved urself some back ache. so are u going to claim medical expenses from them? For back ache arising from sleeping on the floor? Seems like u want to make the whole issue big and claim more from them? So u are expecting a compensation in the region of how many percent? Unless u had rejected the $100, if u have already accepted the compensation then both parties should move on and u would have no recourse legally. Anyway, no point haggling over such things, only increase ur own blood pressure and waste precious time.
  22. New project: DIY Chalkboard. Steps: 1. Buy wood from Hiap Hin (jurong east). 70cm by 50cm by 5mm - $8 The wood's condition varied. Some wood we got was good, some not so good. But overall their service was good and fast. 2. Paint with white matex paint as base. Left to dry for a week. 3. Enter the Chalkboard paint! (From Spot light - Plaza Sing. $16 thereabouts) 4. After one thin coat and one thick coat of chalkboard paint, left to dry for about 3 days. YAY!
  23. First attempt at on ikea hack Bought a cultery tray from IKEA As-Is ($8). (though we were not very sure whether we can fit it into our drawer) Looks something like this: Fortunately or unfortunately?, it cannot fit into our drawer. So we tore it into pieces, using saw and hammer: Our final product: Not bad for $8. Still have the original base and 4 sides to play with...
