  1. hahaha same answers as your ID.....? dunno if that's a good thing or not cos pple usually don't buy ID's answers~ hahahahaha for my own home, many things just sprung up in the final 2 weeks of renovation - from empty house to one that is completed. but hor, in order to get all done in time, your ID really must to coordinate all activities to be done chop chop without much idle time in between.... some more CNY coming liao, all contractors are busy...
  2. me too, moved from Holland, Clementi, finally Jurong each MRT station down is price reduction....
  3. usually: bed, table, chair, wardrobe. all basic simple ones will do. misc: mattress, fan - you can ask tenant if they will use their own one or not. sometimes, got tenants even bring their own furniture (e.g. bed) but this is relatively rare lah.
  4. bro, on the acid wash, i read somewhere in RT before that for glossy homo tiles, acid wash *may* eat away the gloss. need to try on small area first before using on the entire house... your living room/bedroom tiles are glossy one, rite? besides, use bleach to wash glossy homo tiles also not good. again, read this from RT some time ago. found this thread... maybe you can read up first and ask your ID why acid wash not done in living room~ then can judge whether his answer is reasonable or not
  5. hahaha it's just me... i normally need to read a lot before starting something with the festive mood slowly eroding in office, probably can't come RT as often... glad that CNY is coming soon last nite i went to this introductory baking workshop @ CC. it was quite interesting... but seems like i need to invest in a lot of new tools hubby asked me to put up a proposal to "request for budget".....................
  6. i think they usually have booths during those home deco fairs. if you happen to be there, you can request them to show you some samples?
  7. LOL... actually hubby also said he can't see but i think it's quite obvious esp. when one tile is clean and the one next to it is not haha same as what my office tea auntie said... since the dirt can be seen easily, it can prompt me to clean them immediately... but i guess that's not the objective i wanna achieve flour.... hmmmm i never thought of that. hopefully my black granite top can take care of this thank you!
  8. finally get to see your photos at home last nite (can't access photobucket in office ) i must say.... your house is very nicely done!! lovely!
  9. yup guess i'm lucky and my contractor ensured we got new paints. guess he was also wary of painting sub-con trying to cheat. i get to keep all the leftover paints... so no unfortunate guy will be using my old paints and the Sony repairman story.... i actually found it quite funny hahaha~ oops i guess 5mm is still okie... but if you are really not comfortable, better ask the ID to rectify it. else it will become your "eyesore" for years to come....
  10. you are right that the overall price of flats is still increasing unless COV goes negative. However, i do note that many pple are more concern about COV than the valuation (just my observation and opinion, feel free to comment/discuss ): due to the CPF system, many Singaporeans are CPF rich, cash poor. Even with the higher price now, many people can still be able to buy a home IF no cash is involved - i.e. they have sufficient CPF funds for downpayment and sustainable monthly installment via CPF contribution. However, most pple get stuck at the COV, cos a large part of our savings are locked in CPF (as i mentioned, CPF rich, cash poor). And normally, when do pple buy house? it's when they are undergoing major changes in their lives e.g. getting married, having children etc., that's also the time when they need a lot of cash on hand. COV will eat significantly into their cash fund. Hence, lower COV is something "close to pple's hearts" - many actually don't mind paying higher valuation/housing loan in order to lower the cash outlay. my $0.02
  11. welcome and congrats on having your new home~ my 4-room costs me around 25k (not including all those windows ). i guess you need to reduce some items e.g. carpentry to fit into the budget~ all the best in your ID/contractor search~
  12. oh... i see i see your side... quite a lot of primary schools leh.
  13. hey your home really looks good! sorry may i ask a silly question here... how you manage to ship your furniture from all over the world? how's the shipment fee like?
  14. Congrats and welcome to RT! you studied in Rulang Pri? hahaha
  15. i guess that's the white sponge sold in Daiso? got many brands and sizes usually it comes with one long strips of white sponge.
  16. oh sorry i skipped some details.... i have seen the actual paint before and after they kept in the no brand cans, and was there during most of the painting too, so i'm sure the paint were correct. that's what prompted me to ask why they bothered to transfer to different cans. and the painter i was chatting with, it was the working level pple, not the boss... no reason for him to cheat from my experience in working with technicians, usually the basic working level pple will not hide, it's their supervisor/bosses that will cover up....
  17. hey bro, finally get to read your t-blog... sorry can't comment much cos can't see any photos from photobucket in my office for the paint, i have mentioned about the paint being stored in other brand's cans before. you can refer to my post here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=579333 it is really quite a common practice, so don't get too worked up ya...? since you are also running short of time, just give the ID the benefit of doubt and move on la~ (well unless, unless... you found solid evidence that they are trying to cheat, then you should ) wish that your last lap of reno journey will be smooth~ jiayou!!
  18. The TV Console Story - continued After deciding all these doors and stuff, we made a trip down to Ikea, and 2 things caught me by surprise: 1) The actual product looks longer than what i visualised on Sketch-up i did a 3D model of the whole house using sketch-up. thought the 3.0m length console looks just right against the 3.6m wall. however, when i see the physical Besta units, even 4 units of them (2.4m) looks very big to me.... hmmmm.... made me wonder if having 5 units would be good...... 2) Where are the doors??? When we enquired about the frosted glass cabinet doors, we were told that they have already STOPPED this product then why they still kept it in the catalogue...............???? As we could not delay the purchase of console any further..... Me: okie, let's just do without the tall unit and change the doors. Hubby: huh?? are you sure?? don't complain about no storage space later on.. Me: i can always buy the tall unit in future, but if i buy now, i can't throw it away if it's really too big for our living room! so i decided, on the spot, to change the doors to a combination of white and black glossy doors, something like the right most design, but without the tall unit: actual product (sorry, blocked by the sofa ): i'm glad that we dropped the tall unit cos now the console looks just right for our living room - can't imagine if we have a tall unit there... my tv console will look like a big monster~ Noob Lesson 8: Besides 3d drawing and measurement, best to see the actual furniture pieces physically - your plans may change after that
  19. Happy new year~! May Year 2011 be a good one for all~! shall kick start my new year with: The TV Console Story (before i move back to talk about kitchen, again ) Since initial stage of reno planning, we already like the Ikea's BESTA series of cabinets. it all started with hubby falling in love with the FRAMSTA black glass panels for TV: We love the way Ikea showroom does it with LED strips among the panels, it's really nice! though eventually, we didn't use this at all cos we can't think of how to fit the panels in Besides, I like BESTA series becos it allows me to customize the modules to suit my storage needs. erm well, hubby always says i'm obsess with storage space Maybe that's why after a lengthy journey of tv console hunting, we still went back to using BESTA to "build" our TV console My living room "feature" wall is 3.6m long, so i thought of having 5 blocks of Besta cabinets (Besta cabinets come in multiple of 60cm) - with 4 short unit and 1 tall unit at the side. The total length would be 3.0m. Here are some of the brain-storming i have done for the console design: We decided to use the 2nd design from the right in this picture~ In this plan, main colour scheme for the console is black-brown. The short units will have a combination of glossy white doors and frosted glass doors with black-brown frames. Same combination of doors for the tall unit - at first i wanna have clear glass door for the middle section, thinking that it can serve as a display cabinet (see the 1st design on left). But hubby doesn't like it clear, reason: anything behind clear glass needs to be maintained and tidied, which is something he is too lazy to do so
  20. LOL... kudos to the effort you put in for your gf~ haha if i ask my hubby to do the same, he sure will say... siao ah? hahahahaha
  21. reminds me of the old secondary school days when we painted banners.... use OHP to project the image on cloth and draw the outline wonder if pple still use OHP nowadays~ hahahaha
  22. why scary... doesn't it go well with your green room? hahahaha hahahahahaha i'm glad i'm not particular about grout lines. else i'd probably spend my whole life in the kitchen cleaning! hahaha~ thanks for your advice go for a short holiday while waiting seems to be a good idea i'll leave it to hubby to think about it~ okie will PM you shortly if i remember correctly, there are 6 poles, of which 4 are removable... sorry can't remember well cos i usually don't remove the poles~
  23. sorry to hear that you have this problem - looks like you are not alone i read about a number of cases of mouldy vhive furniture before, but forgot whether it was on RT or sgbrides.
  24. or you can find out which part of the pipe is vibrating and add some pipe support around there. this is usually what we do in industrial plant i guess it can work for home piping as well
