  1. haven't yet! me too was very busy with Christmas and new year gatherings wanna get some books and stuff to read up first.... i m a person that needs a lot of "instruction manuals"
  2. i guess many here are trying to say that carpenter and plumber are pple of very different trades and usually don't contact each other, so it is really strange to have the carpenter coordinating the plumber. Carpenter may not know plumbing stuff well enough to coordinate the plumber too. unlike the case of hacker/tiler who usually work as a team.
  3. i guess it should be fine... when i was staying with my sis, we always had our meals at the coffee table (cos bro in law likes to be closer to the TV )... had been doing that for a good 7 years
  4. hmmm if you dun wanna take the risk, how about buying a small can from hardware shop? still can be kept for touch-up if you decide to do any new project(s) in future
  5. nope bro... the post for you is here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=599438 you so long never visit here liao, this post already not at the newest page~
  6. finally the photos appear at the right place! once again, i really salute your effort in drawing the Pochaccos! just btw... Pochacco is your gf's favourite Sanrio character?
  7. my bro did something like this (not in SG though). when his 2nd kid arrived, he rented out his own flat and rent another one that is right next block from my parents, who take care of the kids. save a lot of time and energy in traveling and ferrying the kids around
  8. hahaha ya lor that's what my office tea auntie says too, she said light tiles will prompt me to clean kitchen more often~ dark tiles mask dirt... but isn't it what i want?? yup i use the kitchen and i'm the one who clean it too~ btw, is epoxy coat slippery? and not sure if it will be very messy if i wanna do it in future, with so many things in the kitchen liao oh! your grey tile is the one with the shade i wanted~! looks nice hor? i think i have seen one with e shade like yours, only slightly rough one... but was ruled out by hubby citing "not non-slip enough" hiyah~ my daddy also said grey one will make the kitchen more classy... anyway, too late to undo now can only whine to hubby i'm now cleaning on weekly basis thanks~ hope my luck with this tile will still be good for the future years to come~
  9. banned, you drew this???? this is really good! i thought you were using some stick-on wall deco~! i have apple white... but Dulux one~ not sure if same or not exactly my sentiment... this kind of work must show case in his own t-blog~ where got no one see... so long as you up the thread we will go and read mah... hiyah. btw, i have a post dedicated to you at my t-blog... you must go and read
  10. The Kitchen Tiles Story sad to say, this is not a happy story like what i have written so far... I have already ranted in another thread about my kitchen tiles... grrrrr.... flash back on how my kitchen tiles look like: before my reno started, i was thinking of having a light grey floor tiles for my kitchen, this is the only colour i could think of that matches with my lime kitchen, and dark enough to mask dirts my criteria: light grey, easy maintenance hubby's criteria: non-slip - he insisted becos he knows he has a very accident-prone wife but, on the tiles selection day.... somehow the grey non-slip tiles available seemed very rough (too non-slip?? ), and we were a bit worried that it will be difficult to clean oil stains etc. on the other hand, those tiles with the correct grey i wanted, didn't seem non-slip enough to get my hubby's approval.... hard to please everybody, yah? just at this time, Roy (Henry's assistant) found this light beige, non-slip tile which eventually became my current kitchen floor tiles. All the men (Henry, Roy, my hubby) immediately liked it while i was a bit skeptical............... Me: seems very light leh. wouldn't it get dirty easily? Henry: up to you la. but light tiles will make your kitchen brighter and looks bigger. (I agree on this) Me: hmmm and the grooves look kinda small.... hmmm dunno if it will be difficult to clean or not... hmmmm......... Again, all the men like this tile and my hubby kept trying to sell me to choose it. Already tired from the long hours of tile selection, i gave in..... btw, this tile became my common toilet tile too so as to have the continuity between kitchen and toilet floor............ everything looks great until i started using the kitchen..... problems i encountered: 1) VERY easy to trap dirt being a non-slip tile, there is some groove patterns on the tiles that make the surface less slippery. however, the groove design on this tile seems to be too fine and traps dirt super easily! see the photos below, you will understand what i mean: close up: closer up: sorry it's a bit blur and hard to see, but the grooves are shallow so it's not easy to get a good clear shot on them it is really bad. with a slightest bit of dust, slippers dragging through, normally clean feet accidentally stepping on small drops of water........ you can already see visible, dark patches on the tiles by just carrying out simple, normal kitchen activities, the floor became dirty in seconds 2) Dirts are VERY OBVIOUS Tiles are light beige. Dirts are dark grey/black. so.......... 3) VERY DIFFICULT to clean Again, it's due to the stupid grooves. at first, i thought it's easy to clean becos whenever dirts appear, just wipe with cloth and it disappears. but is it really clean? NO. actually just the surface is sort of cleaned. you can still see that the base colour of the tiles have become some what darker. the only way to clean the tiles completely is to take a cloth, scrub the tiles really hard, and the colour will slowly return back to normal i tried brush, it didn't work. Everytime when i do cleaning, i have to squard down and rub these tiles ONE BY ONE. After my first attempt to clean the kitchen floor, my back ached, and i almost cried i have never taken so long to clean a kitchen before... these tiles are simply nightmare!! and, everytime after i mopped the floor, i walk pass the tiles i just mopped, foot prints will appear and it's very visible!! OMG!! i can never get the floor cleaned!! i was so mad that i really wanna pull my hair off! ARGHHHHH complained to my hubby umpteen times on the kitchen floor, told him that i really regreted following his choice should have just sticked to my decision of having grey tiles even when my father visited my home, his comment was "everything is great but the worst thing that you can ever have is your kitchen tiles"~ bleah~ only if daddy was around when we did tiles selection!! well, i m exploring the possibility of using epoxy coat or something like that on my kitchen floor... but need some research... and won't be in near future cos i'm too tired for anymore reno work, for now okie, i'm sure you all can sense my frustration here. -end of rant- the only consolation is... the kitchen does looks nice, after all Noob Lesson 7: NO MORE light kitchen floor tiles for me. And, seriously, the one who uses the kitchen should decide what's best for the kitchen
  11. so you suffer the same fate as me.... very sian, rite? really don't understand how they plan the gas supply where is the update....?
  12. not sure about pixie's, but for my area (and many others), really don't have... called up Citygas and bug them before
  13. yup yup that would be a headache... no one wants to have power trip that's also why i ended up with the portable induction hob. i elaborated in another post: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=583343 though your flat is old, was there any upgrading done before? you may check here to see if power supply of your flat has been upgraded by HDB: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/bn25/isos119p.nsf/Search?OpenForm if the supply is already upgraded, then concurrent running of induction hob + aircon should be less of a problem. also, appliance with rating higher than 15amps power is not allowed in HDB. from my memory, many of the induction hob models are 18amps power rating, so cannot use at all only a handful are 15A or 13A~ if your area doesn't have gas pipe at all, citygas can't do anything... they even told me "unless they tear away the block and rebuild" LOL.... check my t-blog entry~
  14. that's the same reason why i chose induction hob too. see the story in my t-blog: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=583340 actually running cost is very cheap for LPG tank, just that i really dislike the idea of having one at home do take note on the power requirement cos from what i remember, most of the built-in induction hob can't be used in HDB remember to check before you buy~
  15. I try to add some items that i can think of: 1) Repaint 2) Rewire 3) Replace Pipes 4) Hack down the wall between toilet and bathroom and redo the whole thing (retile, shower screen etc) - and toilet accessories e.g. WC, basin, shower set etc 5) Redo Kitchen Cabinet (can avoid this for now as can just polish the current cabinet and use) 6) Repaint / Polish , existing fittings - if you are changing pipes, you will be changing fittings too, rite? 7) New wardrobes in the 2 bedrooms 8) Windows? 9) Window grilles? 10) Changing locks for main gate/main door/window? Over and above this, i will buy minimal furniture for now which is required for move in and gradually keep adding. 1) Washer 2) Fridge 3) TV 4) console 5) Beds + Matresses 6) Coffee Table 7) Lightings 8) Dressing Table 9) Dining Table 10) Misc Items (shoe cabinet , etc) 11) Water heater? 12) fan - standing fan? ceiling fan? 13) aircon? i think your original 1st list (the reno work list) can easily be around 10k without doing anything to the kitchen cabinet. some things for you to consider: a) Assess the must-do items: things that can only be done during reno and cannot be done afterwards. e.g., windows, re-wiring, piping. b) Assess which built-in are absolutely necessary. e.g. for wardrobe, instead of doing a built-in wardrobe, get a bedroom set (bed frame, wardrobe, bedside table and dressing table), which typical costs $1000 or even less. c) there are some things that you should not save money now by buying cheaper ones, as they will not be good in long run, e.g. cheap bathroom accessories. it might be better to spend more now than to have headache 2 to 3 yrs down the road. Hope this helps... good luck for your reno~
  16. LOL! guess we are all very much influenced by our kitchen colours~ talking about kitchen towels, usually i buy in a pack of 6 with assorted colours... now i have a lot red/white ones. bro maybe i can exchange my red ones with you if you have any green ones... hahaha
  17. bro you are fast hand fast leg... was about to post this in my own t-blog~ Our electrical tariff is really ex... HK's tariff is only ~SGD $0.135 / kWh... almost half of SG's http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_618859.html
  18. yo~ you and hubby both use the same account to post? made me so confused when i was reading the front part hahaha
  19. some numbers for your reference, if you are interested... Electrical consumption in 12-hour period (7pm to 7am): when i cook: 8-9kWh when i don't cook: ~4kWh that translates to electricity cost of $0.93~$1.17 for cooking a dinner . Current tariff: Electricity: $0.2334 per kWh Gas: $0.1799 per kWh
  20. actually for induction hob/utensil, the heat transfer is really fast and the whole wok will be uniformly heated up within seconds (surely faster than gas). i do asian style cooking 95% of the time and dun notice big difference. can't comment on deep frying though cos i dun do any back when i was staying with my sister, we used gas hob. Monthly bill around $55-60. we cook 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. boil soup occasionally like once to twice a week. now i m staying with my husband, we use induction hob. Monthly bill around $62-70. We cook only 1 meal a day, 3-4 days a week. boil soup once a week. all other things like water usage and electricity usage pattern are similar. flat type also same (4-room). though induction hob is more efficient, it doesn't make significant time saving when say for e.g., when you stir fry veggie. you take around 2-3 mins whether you are using gas or induction. but, when it comes to boil soup, it's not something like you can say induction heat up faster so can only use half the time as required compared to using gas hob. you still need the time to get the "essence" out of the soup. 0.5 hour of induction hob cooking definitely costs more than that for gas hob. well, having said all these, i still have no regret in switching to induction... still prefer to pros that come with induction cooking
  21. hahaha... orange is a very appetising colour too~ good for kitchen guess we all like citrus fruits (lime, orange etc...)

  23. i think it's better if you call the HDB hotline for an answer. hear from the "horse mouth"
