The Kitchen Story My hubby said kitchen is the part he is most satisfied with in our home, becos this is "the biggest place in this house where everything is new" i supposed MBR and common toilets come in a close second, then. okie, here come the photos.... Seller told me, kitchen was the only place they did a reno when they got the house 13 yrs ago. left: original condition right: everything hacked. bye bye............... it's not that ugly, but it's just very ill-maintained and dirty becos his tenants didn't quite take care of it... when we took over the house, they even left behind a spoilt fridge with spoilt food remained inside.............. and we bet that the fridge has been spoilt for months (or even years) cos the replacement fridge didn't look new either... yucks :jawdrop: tiling in-progress: we chose a white tiles with thin white strips. the strips can't be seen easily, but we like this subtle effect - simple yet not just a boring piece of white tiles. my father has been nagging me almost daily that i should use 30x60 for the kitchen wall. but, we still opted for the 30x45 tiles cos we didn't want to top up from the original quote few days before tiling started, Henry informed us that the tiles were out of stock - apparently Hafary made a mistake cos just a day ago, they confirmed the stock status and committed a delivery schedule. They only have stocks for 30x60 left, and the strips are of different direction (parallel to short side instead of to long side)..... Henry asked if we prefer to change to the 30x60 one, or to select another tiles. After some thinking, we decided to take the 30x60 one.... and since it wasn't our fault, Henry offered to absorb the higher workmanship fee for 30x60~ yay~ so, i "complied" to my father's request to use 30x60 tiles afterall.......

maybe it also depends on what kind of "dust" you're getting at your home... Our home is near road side so the dust is black black one... it's super visible on light-colour surfaces but can't see on black/dark-colour furniture~ hahaha haha yea very informative! they should make this thread sticky! -
i remembered i used the normal one at normal temperature - Normal 30 was the name i think... but is it Program 6? seriously can't remember........sorry it took me 1 hr 45 mins but i think if the demo guy told you can, should be okie ba~! actually the sales person also told me it's okie... but we were too lazy to call the demo guy to come for us, it's not exactly a packed full load... maybe 80% full, just make sure it has space to "throw" the clothes in the drum i felt that what happened during Flash 40 is they did less things - like less or shorter soaking cycle. i remembered for the normal 30 one, it took them forever to "swim" the clothes in water.... hmmm maybe i should observe again when i next wash clothes....
-
same same... we always wrapped ourselves with blankets! maybe partly becos recently the weather is kinda cool at nite ba............? anyway, i love my Fanco 707 too though it's a bit "cartoon" looking due to the big big hamburger in the middle LOL i'm not much better than you... my experience with ceiling fans only limited to classrooms and the good old hostel/hall days sia.... i guess ceiling fans are good for general cooling and improve air circulation, while standing fans are better when spot cooling is required...
-
you are also doing full load when using Flash 40? i read the manual, the recommended load for Flash 40 is 2-3kg for my 6kg machine, meaning half load nia.... but we dun care cos like what i said just now, our clothes are not that dirty ba......... hahahaha hiyah can't see your photos in office now.... shall go home and look look!

bro neo, in Henry's quote the tile sizes are clearly written (30x45 for wall tiles iirc). before choosing tiles, he will inform you the charges incurred for larger tiles say 30x60. sometimes ID does not restrict the size of tiles used becos the initial quote is already higher... depends on how they quote also la. LOL ya lor and i remember your Supersimon227 during the same period.... kekekeke using coins? you are very extreme lor! new sub-con for Henry? last time from what i understand, Henry's workers are all Malaysians. -

what is the material of your black kitchen top? Solid top or granite etc? i think it really depends on individual... i am using a black granite top and totally loving it! just btw, i have square sinks too. so far okie -
hey hey i'm also using a Brandt machine but a 6-kg model. always use the flash-40 function cos we figured that our clothes are not that dirty to require that normal-close-to-2-hours wash was used to top-loader machines.. washing cycle normal around 45 mins only. First time when i used the "normal" wash function on the Brandt, almost fell asleep waiting for the wash to complete...................

ya it depends on how the ID/contractor quote. Some of them dun restrict the tiles you use but the initial quote already more ex. Some will specified the tile size to be used (for e.g. 30x30), and need to top up if you use a bigger tiles. Then it's the choice of the individual to see whether $$ should be saved or put into bigger tiles. btw, just wondering... is your place opp Temasek Poly? -

bro, look on the positive side - instead of thinking "30x60 easy to uneven", you take it as "30x60 easier to be uneven than 30x30, but should be okie..." so many pple got 30x60 tiles, only a small % got prob rite? If the workmanship is good, unevenness shouldn't be very noticeable unless you have microscopic eyes LOL no wonder you can't find! i was thinking maybe i will put a link to your blog in my t-blog so i dun need to document this Opennet thing again! haha -
bro, i have ceiling fans in every room + 2 in living room. i did this cos last time hubby scared of hot weather/always complained very hot. now after putting in the ceiling fan, he complained that it's too cold.................. but i noticed that whether ceiling fans are effective or not, it has got to do with many other external factors e.g. how the beams are positioned in your home, not just about how good the fans are. for e.g., at our living room, by right one 54" ceiling fan would be sufficient, but because there is a stupid beam right in the middle, we need two fans - and we realised that the wind from each fan cannot "cross" to the other side of the beam - so if you are right below the beam, you can't feel the wind from neither of the fans~ hope you get what i mean! all my ceiling fans are from Fanco. Living room ones are FF707: Room ones are FFM6000: So far, it's been good and quiet and i have no prob zzz-ing at nite As for which brands are good? of course KDK is the best but they dun have lighting kits many other brands like Fanco, Alpha are tried and tested enough in Renotalk How i ended up with Fanco? cos initially i wanted to have Fanco FF9 for living room............ but this fan doesn't go well with hamberger light - and my hubby insisted only hamberger light. so, have to drop FF9 and decided to simply choose other models from the same brand......

Your original tiles are 30 x 30? haha i think 30 x 60 nicer... so take it as money well spent ba? jiayou! and as for how i appealed to Opennet... please see the link below. Sorry i lazy to type all over again http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=578132 somehow it seems i'm writing more about my house in your t-blog than my own one... hahahaha -

oh i see... then i think that was just standard blockage clearing. cos my toilet was very badly clogged, so they need to send another "specialist" to come. sorry to hear about what happened to your tiles... hope the 2nd tiler can at least make it better. all the best for the rest of the reno! and i really hope you will get a better plumber than mine~ -

yo yo saw my name being mentioned... LOL paiseh today no time to come in till now. yupz i have 60 x 30 tiles for kitchen walls and both toilet walls. Actually i am very satisfied with the tiling work... So complaints so far and the tiler head is a nice chap~ i think the gaps between the tiles are quite small - at least it's small compared to previous home's ceramic tiles - but i haven't seen yours so can't comment if the gaps are wider or narrower........ btw, how bad is the uneveness? junwei do you happen to know the names of the 1st and 2nd tiler? btw from what i know, for plumbing, there are 2 different group of pple (from different company), one is the usual plumbing work, the other is the "clear blocked pipe specialist". So you must have met the second one.... and hope i m not too late! i complained to Henry many times about my "usual" plumber... his installation of accessories was disastrous... Henry also v sian after he saw. ended up he got the tiler redo everything for me! but i know Henry has a few sub-cons for plumbing so i hope you get another guy~ but in any case i get you mentally prepared first -

hey bro, when is the tiles stock coming in? if it's just few days, maybe just wait for the tiles to come ba.... during my reno, one of the tiles also no stock but we were lucky becos the original 300 x 450 one got no stock so we got free upgrade to 300 x 600... keke btw, the price difference between big and smaller tiles is well documentated in renotalk... dun worry ya it's due to more time/effort/attention/skill is required for bigger tiles and bigger tiles are also heavier to carry/handle, hence the higher price in workmanship
