  5. for your reference: ossify's t-blog http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=504716 you can see that the ceiling fan and the cabinet is really close... but again it depends on the size of your kitchen, the cabinet configuration, and the location of the fan... rite?
  6. congrats~ when are you planning to start reno?
  7. You can check ossify's t-blog... i vaguely remembered he has a ceiling fan in his kitchen.

  11. Hi, a quick quick update on my reno status... Tiling: done! Plastering: done! L-boxes: done! Re-wiring: done! Air-con: done! Plumbing: done! Painting: in progress! Broken marble floor polishing: todae... kitchen cabinets, lighting installation, and window grilles should be done tomorrow, after that, furniture should start coming in one by one.... Hope that the last lap of reno will continue to go on smoothly... anyway, shall update with pictures once i have time to download them
  12. yup, 5% per month by yourself is not achievable due to the cap, but if you can ask your spouse, bro, sis, parents... etc all get the card and help you, then it's possible
  13. if you spend 6k in a month, and stop spending for the next 2 months in the quarter, you get rebates of $300 --> 5%, so you can't say that they are wrong it's great for big purchases, but of course still need proper planning to maximize the cash rebates
  14. okie some updates... in the end, my contractor is still worried that the workers may accidentally drip one or two drops of the chemical on the floor and damage the marble, so he tried to use sand paper to smoothen the surface before painting. tested on 1 door frame. result: so far so good...
  15. wall plastering is allowed... are you refering to plastering of ceiling?
  16. hmmmm... HDB rules stated very clearly that concealed wiring is not allowed: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/...al?OpenDocument Embedding of wiring (house in metal/high impact PVC conduit) in RC slab, beam, column, wall and in wall plaster or other finishes is not allowed. Only HDB can do for new flat, home owner cannot do by themselves...
  17. exactly, they are not supposed to remove them... really lor removing built-in furniture is totally beyond my imagination my fren was very sian cos he actually planned to use the built-in furniture, but no choice... also can't ask the seller to put them back liao...
  18. Hey smallcarrot, sorry to hear that your experience wasn't all smooth. i guess everyone has their fair shares of hiccups during their reno journey, hope that things are good for you now my reno is currently at the painting stage. I'm glad to say that to date, there wasn't a single cents added to my original quote based on the initial work item list. Whatever additional cost i have, it's incurred by stuff that we requested Henry to add, and everytime before we add something, he will double, triple confirm... keep asking: "are you sure or not??"... hahaha i guess for our case, we went through the quote clearly from the beginning and made sure that we covered all necessary work items required. so i suppose the key point is that the initial work list gotta be done in detail to minimise surprises along the way. one thing i agree with smallcarrot - there are expensive or cheap contractors around, but all contractors from the same tier (expensive tier or cheap tier) will have about the same price this was something i learnt while gathering quotes.... zinedane, have your reno started? yea talk to him with an open mind and clarify whatever doubts you have. issues can be settled so long as both of you discuss amicably~ cheers~
  19. oh man... why did the owner wanna dismantle the doors? but good that you've settled that and the 2nd appointment went smoothly. congrats! my fren had a similar experience... when he viewed the flat, there were built-in furniture (cupboards wardrobe etc). At handover, to his horror, the owner actually removed ALL the built-in carpentry.... btw, talking about the washing machine, my brother also has his put in the kitchen cabinet, but there is no cabinet door to this washing machine compartment... he has this kind of arrangement for 10+ yrs and so far no prob sure a good way to save space~
  20. haha it's good that you start on same day as me so i can check my progress against yours your reno moving pretty fast! My side painting just started on last Friday... my appliance are coming on 24th just like yours hopefully i can stick to this schedule~!!
  21. hey Sammie-jie, haven't visited your blog quite some time... and realised that our reno actually started on the same day~ everything looks good... hope everything sui sui till the end i can't wait to move in too... haha
  22. Oh dear... that's bad... can manage to get refund? i remember reading similar stories in renotalk too! promise not to bank in the deposit cheque but go back on their words! there are some firms that require pple to put in deposit or design fee upfront... as what i understand from this forum... but of course not everyone is comfortable with this arrangement
  23. yes... (at least, according to my understanding...)
