To Have Or Not To Have?
gendon replied to cheesecake's topic in Pregnancy,Parenthood and Education Matters
mousehunt Currently I have one kid, just turned 3 yrs old recently. Would like to have more, but hubby said wait a while...will definitely have more than 1 kid bcos hubby understands why I do not want our son to be an only child, like me. Through the eyes of an only child, when we were born and growing up, at least got two people taking care of us...ie. our parents. But when our parents are older and not so mobile, the only child has no other siblings to rely on or share their load, as he/she is the only one to handle two people. This is something that I have prepared myself and also prepare my hubby to face this challenge in future, when my parents are older. Can I complain why my parents decided to stop at 1? Of course not. What can I say........it's my parents' choice ultimately. And on the other hand, for parents who have alot of children.....when they get old..they're very lucky if all their children stay united & take turns to take care of two people, ie. their parents when old. Sometimes, have many children but none of the children can take care of the parents...also jialat. -
Wow.....the 3M stuff really works man! I gotta go buy it! Awwwww...the cats are soooooooo cute! Ok, I confess.....I cannot tahan any longer.........I'm a cat lover too. My last cat is the garfield type, ginger cat and his name was Merah (in malay means red). Actually it's my old neighbour's cat, but 99% at our place (before we move to Sengkang). But had to put him to sleep, after he started to attack my parents, small kids and got angry whenever me or my mom carry babies. My mom had suggested our neighbour (who brought home the cat in the first place) to neuter him as soon as possible, but my neighbour refused. Very naughty and cheeky cat, and very attached to my mom and me. So after this last cat, me & my mom had vowed not to have anymore cats in the house....the emotional trauma and attachment is unforgettable.

Wow, the $10k dowry was the amt your mom asked? Ya lor, that's a lot of money considering the other wedding expenses as well. Perhaps if you can find a quiet time or moment when your mom is more receptive to listening to what you have to say, bcos parents sometimes forget that we are already adults. Or perhaps that she is worried abt how u gonna cope after u get married? If yes, abt this you can bring up to her that the $10k dowry is putting a heavy load on you and hb, doesn't she want you & hb to be happy after all? Well, it's a bit tricky sometimes when dealing with parents, I guess we most do feel that way.

Hi cherlyn I hope I'm not too late to give my humble opinion abt this dilemna of yours. Very sorry if I sound very ignorant...to me everyday is a learning day. Although I'm not from a Chinese community, I believe when it comes do weddings, almost everyone will have headaches somehow, over these kind of matters. The community where I come from, it's the norm that the bride's dowry is very much dependent on the educational level, profession, family background, and other blahs blahs blahs... And recently in the Malay papers, there was an article spread abt this guy who gave a Chrysler car to the bride as one of the dowry and on top of that the wedding celebration expenses came out to abt $100k ler. I mean, to me personally if one can afford it, why not.....as long it's his/her own money and not borrowed from any friend or family. However, I do wonder if after all that wedding jazz, can the couple manage their marital expenses without any debts all around? Well, it's just my IMHO. I remembered that prior to my engagement years ago, me & my parents were asked several times with regards to my dowry. I told my hubby (bf then) that I don't want to state how much, all I ask is how much that he can afford to give w/o borrowing from others. Hubby got so fed-up with my vague reply, bcos his mom was asking the same thing. Then he asked me again to ask my parents. I just told him bluntly that my parents sure will say the same thing, like I did told him earlier. So when he relayed my reply to his mom, his mom & most of his family members were shocked, bcos usually for brides who are the only child, the dowry amt asked is usually very high and no "discount" one. So, then came the day where my hubby's family and reprentatives came over to my place, to mark the day of engagement and discuss abt the wedding plans such as confirmed dates, dowry etc. When my hubby's eldest brother started the topic abt dowry, the rest of his family went unusually quiet bcos they want to really hear what my parents want to say how much they're asking for. Well, let me share with u what my dad said, "All I ask for is how much can he afford to give w/o borrowing from others. The dowry is not really that important. If the amount is very small, we will still accept it. Even if the amt is grand, we will still accept it. What is more important to us is how much can he afford to maintain himself, his wife, in this case our only child, AFTER the wedding and in future their own children, for their lifetime. Why should I ask a sky-high amt that leads my future son-in-law to beg, borrow or steal?" So, after the meeting, my hubby told me that all his sisters, brothers and the rest of the family told him that he's one very lucky guy bcos their family ever kena by a family before, who also has an only child where the family asked for abt $10k for the dowry alone and no bargains, not including other gifts. So finally my hubby was convinced abt what I had said earlier to him abt the dowry amt, big or small.

All About Breastfeeding
gendon replied to gendon's topic in Pregnancy,Parenthood and Education Matters
Well, u can more or less guess that most of us got the stubborn streak when it comes to bf. Don't worry too much lynzi, breastfeeding is a 2-way thing - both the mother & baby are learners. Like some of us have pointed out abt mindset, patience and perseverence, another thing to know abt is the intention (niat). It's actually mind over matter, really. Babies need time and guidance to learn how to latch properly. Most maternity wards have lactation consultant, so make full use of their service while you're in hospital. Besides, you can always ask us should you need help when the time u get clueless, helpless and need emotional support. For my case, I was lucky that the senior midwife assisting my OBGYN asked me (during labour) if I wanted to bf or not. I told her of course I want to bf. Then she smiled and showed me that she wrote in big bold letters TBF on baby's card for the bassinet and she explained that if she were to write BF, it means that partial BF & FM, and that if TBF means total breastfeeding, no FM at all, pacifiers, etc. and the nurses will honour that until the mother declares that can give FM to baby. And she quickly help me to put baby at my breast and help baby to latch on & nurse while my baby is still in quiet alert mode, as soon as my hubby was done with the azan & qamat for our baby. All this was done within 30 minutes of birth. And when me & baby abt to discharge, the nurse in charge without delay took out all the FM samples from the hospital-issued baby bag since she knew that I'm on TBF. And when at home, there was not even a single tin of FM in the house. Even the word FM is made taboo in both my parent's house as well as my MIL's house. -

Ya, that time when trying to select the channels that we wanted a la carte, I calculated it cost abt $190 at least! So then decided to take up ultimate package instead, much much cheaper. For my internet I use MaxOnline Express. For home line I use Digital Voice Home, currently paying $4.50 monthly for subscription and $0 for the usage. Outgoing local calls are free, hee hee! So with all that (MaxOnline + Digital Voice Home + digital Cable) can make full use of the Hubber discounts and subsequently use the accumulated Rewards Points to offset some parts of the bill or redeem vouchers or promo items lor.

For my case, my hubby proposed to my dad for my hand in marriage, not me. Was really unexpected bcos my hubby casually informed me a day before, that he wanna drop by my house before he go for a soccer friendly match. :faint:

Lemon Other than for it's juice, zesty rind or uplifting fragrance, a lemon can be used to: - Kill any funny smells and remove chilli & oily stains in a blender or food processor. Put a slice of lemon inside the blender and pulse several times. Remove the blended lemon and rinse blender/food processor clean. - Remove any bleachy smells from fingers, hands or feet after using any bleach products to clean bathrooms, soaking clothes, etc. Cut a lemon into quarters, squeeze abit of juice into affected areas and scrub using the same lemon. The acidity of lemon will neutralise the alkaline smell & slimy feel of bleach on fingers or toes. - Naturally bleach & clean any wooden ladles and spatulas, after unsuccessfully scrubbing them in hot soapy water to remove the oily chilli red stains. Rub a slice of lemon on the stains until clean and rinse when done. - Naturally disinfect the chopping boards after cutting meat and remove smells too. Rub a slice of lemon all over the chopping board, rinse well and dry. Tried and proven. Cheers!

Town Council Monthly Charges
gendon replied to hongss's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
Yes, I agree with you abt some TCs the 5-rm don't have the reduced rate and that the S&CC that we pay are meant for outside of flat. As in previous posts, diff TCs/estates got different cleaning contractors. Even in the same estate got old flats and new d&b flats, some with common refuse areas and some don't have, IMHO naturally the operations costs may differ. -
Hi monsieurlee Welcome to RenoTalk Wow, lucky you! You've got a neat squarish layout Depending on materials and how extensive the reno works are, $30k is not surprising. I've seen a 3-rm unit in AMK, total reno costs were abt $64k :faintz: Looking forward for your reno journey and happy renovating

Yup, PCOS tends to run in families. With modern medical technologies, luckily this condition is treatable. I've several friends who had PCOS before, some still trying and some after exercise, gradual weight loss and clomiphene medication, managed to conceive and are mothers now. Especially one of my schoolmate, who didn't know that she had PCOS abt 10 yrs prior to marriage. Only a year ttc, she found out thru her gynae that she got PCOS. Of course, she was shocked and sad, but eventually she managed to control it thru exercise and medication. Her first kid was conceived with medical assistance, then her next two kids were conceived naturally. So fret not, there's hope for u. If you're ovulating, then most probably gynae will propose treatment for the fallopian tubes so that the eggs can pass thru. So, have the gynae proposed any treatment plan yet?

If humping with passion is ok, but those very mechanical types...aiyoh...pls lah..very sian you know !! A bit of my history here: 2 yrs after married, I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, after a free lady's health screening checkup done. Without delay, with the health screening report I consulted with an OBGYN for medical opinions and the next two days later, underwent abdominal myomectomy surgery to remove two golf-ball sized fibroids from the top part of my womb. Aiyoh...the recovery period was jialat man! My OBGYN gave me & hubby between 6months and 1 year after surgery, to try conceive. Heng ah, 7 months later I conceived naturally and engaged the same OBGYN for pre-natal care. Frankly, if not for the health screening, I wouldn't know that I've got fibroids bcos it's silent and painless. But when I was about to deliver that time at 39+ weeks, my OBGYN warned me that due to the nature of my past surgery, I had to be induced bcos it's better to avoid prolonged labour or else risking for uterine rupture. Luckily I gave birth normally with ventouse-assisted, managed to avoid c-section.

Wah...deathcoth...your son is not only a cutie...but also hansome leh !! Of course lah, he'll be hungry again. Bcos his stomach is as big as his own clenched fist! That's why babies feed frequently mah...especially during their growth spurts at 1wk, 3wks, 6wks, 9 or 10wks old. During these times usually is the period where some mothers either make it or break it in breastfeeding. So better don't stress your wifey too much hor Oh ya, btw I found the urut lady contact number. If interested pls email me, bcos my PM inbox always full lah. !! Heh heh heh heh, Akan Datang! !!

All About Breastfeeding
gendon replied to gendon's topic in Pregnancy,Parenthood and Education Matters
Hi shmj Wow, I must say that's very noble of you to donate the EBM Hee hee....the sore nipples (luckily overcome after 2 wks) & bitten nipples (when he's teething)...aiyoh..who can forget that Hi carole75 I guess your daughter knew that FM is one taste, but bf milk taste there's variety according to our diets. My maternal uncle, who was breastfed until he's 9 yrs old, until today can remember that mother's milk the taste cannot be compared to any other milk. Which reminds me that my son ever said "Hmmm, nice!" and continued feeding, especially after I eat foods like chicken, ice cream or something spicy. It's gd to hear that you got a very supportive hubby. I guess most of the time that's one of the factors that propel mothers to continue bf. Among my friends, I was one who gave birth first and still breastfeeding. My mom bf me for only a few days after she was told by neighbours and relatives that her milk is too thinn and she gave it up soon after. Only when she saw me one day expressing the EBM that she finally realised that it was foremilk, not thin milk that she thought all along. My hubby was a breastfed baby until he was abt 2 yrs old, all his other 12 siblings were breastfed too. Luckily I got the moral support from my hubby, my parents as well as my MIL, to keep on going when the going gets tough.
