Item Missing During Renovation
neubie replied to DavFong's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
which is why there must another set of lock n chain to secure the place whenever the reno ends for the day. the key is not released to anyone else but the owner. -
pls note there are two types of radiation, ionizing n non-ionizing radiation. the ones generating from microwave oven, wifi, handphone, cellular towers are non-ionizing, ie. , they dun cause sub-atomic changed to the cell structures. radiation from nuclear fallout is ionizing which is harmful.

Finally my OpenNet is done up after some hiccups. Chronological sequence as follows: 10 February 2011 OpenNet called to notify me the backend testing for my unit is completed. Only verbal confirmation but no email or snail mail. 12 February 2011 Proceeded to M1Shop to sign up for a 50Mbps plan. Was told of one month lead time for Nucleus Connect (NC) to come install the ONT. Arrangement can be done on weekends but MORE expensive than weekdays. 11 March 2011 Took leave on Friday, waited for NC guys come. 9am one beng-ish NC technician came with the ONT, re-tested signal and found to be out of spec. Five minutes later told me cannot do, must another day come back at their own cost... wasted one day leave for nothing.... the guy gave me this...and said this is a very common problem.... That afternoon, someone from NC called me to reschedule another visit on weekday (15 March 2011). I told them to reschedule to Saturday (19 March 2011) since it's their fault for playing me out on that first visit and I dun want to waste another day of leave to be disappointed again. 19 March 2011 1pm a bunch of 6-8 guys came, some from SingTel, some from NC and some OpenNet contractors came, tested the TP port #1, no light, so they traced all the way to the next block's MDF room, verifed it was loose connection (maybe due to the Sendai Earthquake???) and reconnected. Signal test passed. Fired up the ONT, plugged in the fiber optic cable and RJ45 cable to my router, viola!!! Link lights and Port #1 light stable. Fired up my laptop and wifi on phone, everything worked swee swee!!! :D downloaded Internet Explorer 9. Blazing fast speed!!! YouTube, Tudou and all other sites all fast and zippy ... below is the completed OpenNet cum home network installation...

Backout After Signing Contract With Id
neubie replied to littlepiglet's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
on hindsight, there's a few things you can learn from this. Never ever sign up with any contractor/ID until: 1. You have fully taken ownership of the house. Paper planning based on floorplan have no meaningful value, even if the ID tells u they have resized your floorplan to scale. 2. You have met up with contractor/IDs to personally surveyed your house and obtained quotes. How did you arrive at the idea this ID "happened to give a good quote". What makes you think others cannot match? Not necessarily the cheapest quotes get the best bang of the buck. Do not be enticed by the chio chio designs the contractor/ID show you. If they can do up the design, so can others. Freebies like aircon or kitchen cabinet are never free. 3. You have compared with various quotations carefully, ensure no additional hidden costs and studied the T&C of the contract/payment 4. You have set aside budget 5. You are fully comfortable with the contractor/ID after clarification, which NEVER happens on first meetup. You will smell something fishy if this starved ID asks you to sign up with them upon estimated renovation quote, or starts getting impatient with ur multiple queries and clarifications Anyway since your ID mentioned that the agreement is non-obligatory, it is conflicting with the stated T&C. If need be escalate to RADAC and see what can be done. for works not done by any contractor/ID via your ala-carte menu, it is usually the case they disclaim any warranty claims should anything go wrong. same thing for aircon, you have your ultimate right to chose any company, since you are paying. the only difference is you may need to manage & coordinate when inserting your own ala-carte items during the reno phase. doing up reno is not like going to NTUC buy grocery. it's the second most expensive capital expenditure after purchasing your flat. so be extremely prudent and careful. IMHO, the signed agreement is not legally binding. Many contractors/IDs will ensnare consumers into signing with them upon first meetup and using this to bully them & take them as hostage if agreement is breached. i feel a good relationship must exist and persist with the contractor/ID thru out the reno process, so both parties and happy and will progress smoothly towards completion. Good luck. -
those staying near bukit timah/hillview/bukit batok areas have higher constant exposure of radiation from tv/fm transmitter towers n mindef pulse radar all year round. . . basically the tall towers at upper bukit timah area transmit tens of kilowatts of power that can reach neighbouring countries....

the screws used in the pipe clamps are not stainless steel, so will rust. the pipes shouldn't exhibit rust spots, dark or discolored spots should still be acceptable. every day when u wake up, its good practice to let the stagnant water in the pipes run a while(use it to flush toilets or presoak laundry) to get rid of the any taste/smell.

then an impact drill in the order of 600W ~ 1000W should be sufficient.

depends on Ur application n max size of drill bit n penetration depth.

Is It Really Cheaper To Buy At It Show?
neubie replied to renegade's topic in Electronics & Electricals
most non-IT-show dealers will match the price offered there, so unless u like to go like squeeze like sardine, i see no point jostling with crowd and trying to get the attention of the promoters there. -
I think that's the scv tv points, where the incoming tv signal from the catv distribution system split into multiple coaxial tv points. coaxial cables are usually black in color. within the box itself there shd not be any opennet fiber cables there. before u close up the box u may want to take pic n show for clarity. btw, u are not supposed to tamper with those boxes outside Ur unit.

Newkdk Model V60wk/v56vk Are They Suitable For Hdb?
neubie replied to kajua's topic in Electronics & Electricals
your installer will take care of that. just make sure upon completion, fire up and run at all speeds to verify no wobbling or instability. -

neubie replied to Agent 96's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
dun tink u can locate the bathtub to the window. the load kN/m2 may not take it. also, the plumbing (waste water discharge pipe) may be an issue. PS: is this flat near commonwealth MRT? that 3 new blocks 80+ ?? -

** 1 Need Advise On Unsatisfied Contractor Work!
neubie replied to w3ita's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
as long the workmanship is fine, why bother about his poor service attitude? the ID is not your personal butler or banker. would u have preferred one that sweet-talks to u but never delivers what he promised? important thing is any defects highlighted to him is made good asap prior to next milestone payment. -
long time no update... take note for opennet subscription, the RSPs will impose on some contractual lock-in period that can't be terminated. early termination comes with hefty penalty charges. opennet imposes a strict rule of tying fibre subscription to the residential address, NOT to the MAC address of the ONT. Existing starhub MOL customers can bring their cable modem to any place (with cable connection) and continue to use (since starhub MOL ties subscription to the modem hardware address). so if u intend to shift house during the contract period, u can't ask them to transfer subscription to the new place, either have to pay penalty charges or wait till the contract ends.

ONT - optical network terminal - box that converts optical signal from opennet to LAN electrical signals for use in pc. Provided by retail service providers. NAS - network attached storage - hard disk storage connected in a network so multiple pc can access/share music/picture/video/document files.
