  1. how fast water is heated up depends on a few factors. power rating is one of them. construction is another. design of the internal components also affects. type of materials used also. got many factors la. overall, of cos 3kW is faster than 1.5kW. but at the same power rating, diff brands and even diff models may hv diff heating times, though the difference would not be that big. at most a few minutes difference. having said that, most joven users dun hv any complaints abt their units' heating times. i hv also read of some ariston users complaining it takes a while to heat up the water in its tank and tt it does not retain the hot water for long. i cant comment as i'm not using ariston. i'm using a joven 3kW, 25l tank. takes only a few minutes (less than 10mins) to heat up before it cuts off power supply to the heater as the water inside has oredi reached the set temperature. if not wrong, the default temp is 60deg C. some models, depending vertical or horizontal, hv adjustable dial to adjust this set temperature. mine dun hv. when i start my shower, i dun even hv to turn the mixer to the hot (red) region. the mixer handle is usually slightly in the cold (blue) region. but cos i take long showers, by the time i finish up, the handle would be slightly in the hot region. even after switching off the power supply to the heater after my shower, i can still get hot water frm my mixers in the next day, depening on when i took my shower last nite. typically, the heater can hold the heated water for about 8-10hours. beyond that timing, you still can get warm water if u turn the mixer handle fully to the hot region. this is good for those who shower in the nite, and prefer using warm water to wash ur face when u wake up in the morning. no need to turn on the heater for this. save electricity....keke. lastly, i hv read of users feedback on after sales service, such as breakdowns and repairs. general consensus is that Joven offers much better and faster response than Ariston or any other brands. most of the shops i went to during my shopping also mentioned this as a feedback for Joven.
  2. that's exactly wat i do too. hold the vacuum head wif hand and put it right up to the drill bit as close as possible. so i wun hv much dirt and dust after drilling. oh bt be sure to keep the vacuum head at the drilled hole when withdrawing the drill bit frm the hole. cos the drill bit will "pull" more dirt out. and once the drill bit is completely out, make sure to vacuum the newly-drilled hole. otherwise, when you "hammer" the wall plug in, you will see dirt coming out thru the wall plug. den still nd to do clean-up liao.
  3. sweep everyday is not low maintenance loh....unless got maid to do it. which in any case, everything is low maintenance liao...haha...
  4. ehh...landed property.....seriously, i wld suggest u go for parquet. laminated definitely is cheaper, but as just well, it looks and feel cheaper. especially when u start walking on it, dropping things on it, and if u've gt dogs, when they walk on it. the hollow sounds tt all the aforesaid activities make....i can accept for a HDB....bt if i stayed in a landed or even a condo, i can't accept. but tt's just me. i dun think u nd to tile the floor prior to laying the laminates. just flat, level cement screed shld do.
  5. LG after-sales service sucks big-time here. i had 3 bad experiences in all 3 visits to them. and their warranty is as good as no warranty at all. you are all welcome to come and see for yourself. compare my 2yr-old LG laptop versus my 5yr-old Acer laptop. the Acer is still working mechanically better than the LG. LG's fan oredi making so much noise, on/off switch oredi broken....on the inside hor, mind u. i cant even turn on the laptop via the normal way. hv to use a screwdriver to reach inside and push the on/off catch. so no matter hw good their products is or ever will be, i'll never buy LG. Since you'll be using the dryer a lot more often, why not remove the hanging device totally? den u can stack a dryer above ur washer. my sister had a 2-in-1 washer cum dryer. cant rmb the brand. broke down a couple of times during the 1yr tt i was staying wif her. 2-in-1 space-wise, cost-wise might seem better. bt if anything breaks down, tt's it. u got no dryer, no washer, nothing...nada. no, if i were u, i wld find a way to fit a separate dryer if i really need a dryer. my current layout, when i was designing the kitchen wif my ID, we made sure to leave ample vertical space above my washer. to future-proof the possibility tt i might get a dryer. it's not a need for me, more like a luxury. logically, it wld seem tt direct drive is better. but no, i wld say it is more efficient as the motor is lined up to the gears rotating the drum, thus no loss. nt necessarily better, just more efficient. bt i dunno wat sort of belt drive Electrolux uses, so cant compare properly. some belt-drives can be loss-less. but 1 definite advantage of belt-drive or direct drive is noise. belt-drives are quieter. on a separate note, comparing these 2 brands for washers and dryers is like comparing an old, wise man wif a young, strong upstart. which man has more knowledge? which man would hv more experiences to draw on? some who read my comments here may say tt i'm anti-LG. yes, i am. i admit that. but i'm also being objective here. think abt it. Electrolux and Bosch hv been ard for how long? hw many yrs and decades hv they been making washers and dryers? especially Electrolux. yes, LG has been ard for a while too. bt when did they start making washers and dryers? hw much experience hv they got in tt particular industry to know wat works, wat lasts, which technology and features gives wat problems?
  6. alamak....i was just there earlier. we could hv had dinner together....
  7. i walked past one very small, seemingly run-down stall near the veggie stalls at St 41 side. didnt notice the block number, but should be ard 49x, where they hv a lot of shophouses. it's a very small stall. more like half the size of a typical shophouse stall. quite dark, no big signboard, quite easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. it's near a corner unit. sorry i cant help wif more info. hope u can find it.
  8. Was abt $170 I think during the Carnival. Jellyfish is the Taiwan one? Wif the Red Dot Design award? if it is, den sorry, i'm not impressed. i saw the video, the brightness adjustment didn't look very functional to me. didn't look like there was any noticeable change in the brightness when the guy was stroking the control panel wif his finger. And it appears he has to continually stroke to go thru the full range of brightness levels, as in, slide finger up, remove finger, start at bottom again, slide upwards again. repeat accordingly to go thru the full range of brightness levels. also for change of colour, the control panel shows the full range of colours available, regardless of the colour chosen. so while the whole lamp is say for eg. red, you will still see green, blue, yellow, etc on the control panel. Philips LivingColours has a wireless remote whr u press and hold the "+" or "-" button to adjust the brightness, and has a ring depicting the colours available and u just touch the colour tt u want. the lamp will change to tt colour and u can adjust to a different shade of tt colour by adjusting the intensity.
  9. cos i used to stay near there. Commonwealth actually. but i usually buy my dinner frm this coffeeshop on the way home. they renovated the place some time back and he moved stalls. last time, his stall was more towards the centre. he also took over another stall at the coffeeshop at the other end of the block, nearer to the 4D/Toto ticketing booth. that stall mostly manned by his female partner. dunno whether his wife or not.
  10. is the boss a young-looking Chinese guy? 1st stall on the left-hand side? right next to the zi-char stall?
  11. i have a F&P fridge wif d freezer at d bottom. been using it for a couple of years. moved house once without properly securing its parts, except for the doors. so far so good. d gd thing abt it tt i've come to really enjoy is tt i dun hv to bend down to get anything frm the fridge compartment. stand upright, open the door, and get watever drinks i want, butter, eggs, fruits, veggie etc etc....cos the fridge area has 2 "boxes" wif humidity control for fruits and veggie. all either at ur eye level, or ur arm's level. absolutely no need to bend the back at all. unless u're taller than 1.9m. if tt's the case, buy a taller model, or put ur fridge on leg supports, or build a taller fridge base. i wld rather do all these to take better care of my lower back than to put it thru all tt stress of constantly bending it, or bending my knees to lower myself. either way, one of the joints will suffer. i cant imagine switching back to top freezer type of fridge. and as we all age, i dun think we wld wan to bend down too often to get things frm our fridge, rite?
  12. laminate can help save costs also. instead of hacking existing floor tile and re-laying new tiles, laminate flooring simply overlays the existing floor tiles. i used laminates for my MBR and just for 1 bedroom alone, it helped me saved close to $300.
  13. i intro u to sth even cheaper than tiles. aluminium composite panel. super cheap. 1 panel of 8ft by 4ft costs between $46 - about $100+, depending on which version u select. They hv normal (3mm thick), intermediate (4mm), and fire-rated (5mm). for kitchen backsplash usage, even though there is cooking flame and heat involved, the normal (3mm thick) panel is good enough. pros: 1) super cheap when compared to tiles, glass backsplash or stainless steel backsplash. 2) depending on the colour u choose, can look exactly like stainless steel backsplash, or normal acrylic panel. 3) easy to replace in future when u hv more budget to get glass or real stainless steel backsplash. cons: 1) easily scratched when struck wif a hard object. 2) solid colours (making it look like acrylic panel) may look cheap upon closer inspection. bt looking at the price...about $46 for 8ft by 4ft, it can really be a stop-gap measure for the time being. u can cut holes in it for ur sockets (per cut cost $1) and you can also combine multiple panels together if u nd a bigger piece. though when u combine, there will be a joint line between the separate panels. PM me if u wanna knw whr to get it.
  14. it is uber cool. i gt one at the last Philips Carnival. Since then, they've come out wif a new design for the exterior. but i still like the smoked black casing that i hv. blends in well with my decor. nw waiting for this year's Philips carnival to buy at least 1 more and link it up wif the current one.
  15. hw come this area dun have good char kway teow and hokkien prawn mee? last thur suddenly gt craving for char kway teow for dinner bt cant find.
  16. it is mentioned in product description tt this is to be mounted on door. u activate it whenever u want to arm it, even during bedtime, so tt the alarm will go off and wake u up should there be a break-in. as far as i knw, all burglar alarms nd user to activate when leaving house in order to turn it on. even if got auto-activation, hw wld it logically work? based on opening and closing of the main door? then everytime u open and close the door, u need to key in ur pin to deactivate the alarm? imagine when entertaining and doing it for every guest who arrives. or when u just step out into the corridor and the door accidentally closes? or when you go out but a family member is staying home? if he needs to open the door, he has to deactivate the alarm? way too troublesome compared to just simply activating it whenever u want to turn it on.
  17. which is the cheaper stall? i nd to buy veggie ltr today. cooking dinner for my frens today...
  18. i nvr did believe in all tt hype abt mattresses. bought mine frm this little mattress shop located above a lighting shop at Balestier a couple of years ago. paid slightly over 1k for a KingKoil. everytime i see those mattresses selling for over 2k....i wanna faint. we guys shld think back to our NS days. wat sort of mattresses were we sleeping on every nite? did we encounter any particular back problems due to the mattress? i dun think so. if we had any back problems, it was more cos of our training and poor posture when we were lifting heavy things.
  19. ya, i also think bt batok might be nearer to St 24 than say, St 51. turn out to Jurong Town Hall, go straight down towards Bt Batok Road, 1st right turn is Bt Batok West Ave 8 liao. yes, found the postbox liao. tks.
