End of Week 2 28/4/2012 Yesterday morning we were worried the tilers did not understand clearly how we wanted the toilet wall tiles to be laid, we went up to the house early morning before work to paste this piece of paper with instructions written in both English and Chinese Luckily our new home is just a few bus stops away from where we currently stay. In the evening after work, we rushed back home and this was what we saw! Surprised! Everything was done according to what we have drawn. We it! I especially love the workmanship. The tilers have done a good job. The grout lines for the hexagon tiles are so even. I SMSed my contractor and thanked him for the good job done. Well, not to be happy too early, when all the tiles are up, we will check if there is any hollowness. -

Good idea, let me think think... I didn't notice his pipe, let me ask the contractor. Haha his contractor is the same as mine. If he can do for him, sure can do for me. But my bathroom so small, even if it is shifted to the other corner, it is still there - an eyesore. I don't see any problem with partial wall tile as our parents' houses old bathrooms were also partially tile up, same as this flat - the toilet walls were partially tile up previously, and they have stood the test of time. Think we should use the right paint - like those anti-fungal or weather shield paint. Look at XTR's bathroom - no wall tiles at all! -

Now even the pipe is not removed, the toilet stinks. I don't know what's the source of it. Maybe because of the cement and sand and the dampness. Yah, the turquoise color looks so refreshing! But my floor tile is gray leh... I don't think can match with tiffany blue or green... best is to match with a gray paint. Gray. White. Gray -

Yeah, hate it. But just leave it there..i don't want my room to be smelly. Hi rae, I'm not sure if it is the same pipe as the one in XTR's bathroom the air pipe can be removed, but it will cause the toilet to be smelly. So better not remove it. Hi pineapple, yes. Only the shower area is fully tiled up. The rest will be partially tiled. I am trying to achieve this kind of effect for the wall and tiles. I feel that it may be too overwhelmed if i tile up to ceiling height. Anyway, this is just for the MBR, the common toilet will be fully tiled up. -

Week 2 26/4/12 Finally today the tiles in the MBR toilet are partially up. We have no time to go to the site during working hours. Whenever we visit the house after work, the workers has already knocked off. Communication will be a problem if we couldn't talk face to face. So this is how we communicate with the contractor, through drawings and photos and send to him via whatsapp. -

Em.... The MBR W.C is $300 The common room one is $320 (comes with the square basin) I think it is a little over our budget. Thanks Aya for the measurement. -

Bathroom Items Contractor told us next week he needs the bathroom stuff. And yet, we still havn't bought them! How last minute are we This evening after work, we rushed to get the bathroom stuff so that we can arrange the person to deliver the items on Saturday and we can receive the items and check on the spot. For the MBR toilet For the common toilet - I don't like this, but it is cheap and comes with 10 years warranty on the flush system -

Thanks Topsy! We got the tiles from Hafary in Balestier Road. There are other tones of colours as well, this is the grayish range. LOL! Yes, it was that nice uncle who served renotm and us. In fact I made an appointment with the lady, she kept asking me where I get to know her shop. She was also very helpful la, say want to email me catalogue.. but we didn't meet her that day. Maybe that's a blessing? -

Thanks Aya, that seems to be an ideal size. Just nice! This is fixed and cannot be extended one right? Wanted to ask you this but keep forgetting What's the dimension (length) of your L-end bottom cabinet? And the width for walking space? I told my contractor to do an L-shape cabinet and leave about 1m of walking space, not sure if that is a comfortable width. Finally your reno is coming to an end. Can move in to your cosy home and start a new life. Congrats! -

Both of you are right! My contractor has just called hubby to clarify about the tiles layout. Hubby just sent him some drafts which I drew previously. He said, it is very clearly noted. I hope that means he has understood very well. We will go check out the progress this evening. -

Hi piknik, thanks for dropping by. Do you mean something like this? Haha, that is what i like too, but too bad hubby does not like it, he said it's not finger friendly for the kids. We don't have kids though, but we might have in the future. Yeah we love the effect of the tiles too. But hopefully the tilers don't lay all the same colour tone tiles together, otherwise it is a waste! Should i tell them? Hmm.. I think they should have the common sense. -
Seems like your reno progress is just about the same pace as mine. Hehe Well, if I were to be in your position, i would just engage Z and let the contractor liaise with him, on top of that can save 30%! No need to think liao. Consumers are realistic they go to whoever gives the best price and best quality.
