Single Buyer Single Income...going To Be A Long Journey
LLChing replied to haven32's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Hello Haven, may I know is your new place a 3/4/5 rm? Before you decide to install new aircon, ask yourself: 1) Do you really need to have aircon to work, sleep etc in your home? Will fan do? 2) Do you need aircon for all the rooms? 3) Ever consider new single unit for your room only and subsequently, casement aircon for the other rooms if needed in future. 4) Though the old aircon may still be in working condition, watch out for the remote control. The metal parts where the battery touches may be rusty and the control not functional. I have aircon for all 3 rms yrs ago, thinking just like everybody else that better have the trucking done so that it will not be messy next time. The aircon became a white elephant as we hardly use it(not more than 5 times a yr). Yet, for hygiene purpose, we still have to clean and service the aircon regularly which is not cheap. Being on a tight budget can be challenging but not impossible to have a cosy home. It all boils down to Need vs Want. Already being saddled with a substantial housing loan thru CPF, I'm sure you won't want to be burdened too much with a huge personal/reno loan as well. All the best . We are here to lend you support . -
Just my 2 cents worth of what the ... Recd a call from Starhub telemarketer (private number) on Sat and was told that my SCV plan will be expiring in mid April. If I renew NOW (means on the spot, immediately over the phone), it will be much cheaper than what I am paying currently. Told her that since I will be moving out for abt 2 mths and the temp place would already have SCV blah blah .. can I re-contract from mid-July. She said "CALL 1633" and then hung up on me. Ohh.. such good service. How can I renew over the phone when I know nuts about her. No name, no face, no phone number? Or is this common practice and I'm just a mountain tortoise? Previously, Starhub personal would come round knocking on doors for SCV subscribers and when we are game to re-contract, documentations were done on the spot.

Yes Ayazumi, he is very professional in his work. Downright honest too. Told us frankly what kind of common hiccups to expect, which he will try his best to make sure it won't happen in the 1st place. However, he will personally rectify any discrepancy should it arise. This was before we sign the contract. Warned that there will be about 20 groups of people working on my reno. He intends to submit application for hacking this week as it takes about 2 wks for HDB to approve. Thought it was a bit early but he said since we already know the date to start hacking, might as well get HDB to approve the date. If drawings not approved, still got time to adjust. @ May - Yeah lor .. but very fruitful and well spent . Most time spent on the common toilet. Such a small space and 3 designs churned out. Office table also. Hubby and I became his parental guide counselor too. Haha. Hubby taught him how to better use his excel in the course of his work while I taught him how to go on renotalk for viewing. Kekeke.

At last! After triple checks that nothing has been omitted from both sides and final calculations and adjustment had been made, the contract was printed out at our place, signed and deposit issued . This was after we had gone through 3 drafts. Yesterday's discussion was from 6.30pm to 12.30am with dinner and free hands-on computer lesson for Andrew thrown in . Browsed through WhiteLogic and targeted a couple of laminates. This week will get to see more samples of laminate as well as tiles/colour so that 3D drawings can be prepared closest to what we have in mind. Materials will only be ordered upon our confirmation of 3D drawings.

Hi May, thanks for the sound advice on granite and quartz which you have posted on Ahlipz's blog. We have decided on granite, dots and all -
Fisher & Paykel's fridge is reliable though not "futuristic" in style. My 16 yrs old F&P fridge had moved 3 places and is still working well though the exterior had started to corrode. Mine was the 348L old model cos the width of the 400+ couldn't get into our lift and main door then. Good choice, both

Yawn ... Marathon discussion with contractor yesterday to finalise quotation from 5.30pm to 1.30am. Yes, 8 hrs at our place taking exact measurements of every corner, width, length, height. There are markings on the floor and walls to show us how much space we have to move about, for storage, for eating (leg room at the breakfast table), bathing .. hehe, hubby even enact his movement in the redesigned toilets. New design needs to accommodate him. Everything was meticulously taken down, corrected, quotation reprinted on the spot. 80% completed. Only need to see window contractor and electrician to ensure exact requirement. We have confirmed and now the ball is in Andrew's court to present the actual contract.

Ooo .. SWEE ..SWEE .. Love that WIW - simple and neat storage. We are also converting the storeroom and stealing a bit of space from our MBR into a WIW for my 2 girls. Also L shaped with 2 openings. May copy your idea of storage, can??

Orh .. you managed to have it changed hah? That's even better. Thought you bought already cannot change. Die die also have to squeeze it into your house How come no more photos liao?

Hehehe, my hubby is like "laughing Buddha". Ever bought some foldable black/green chairs from ikea, all flattened except one green. Warned hubby that's for his mother when she comes for visit. He tested and passed one ikea chair that looks very like a large inverted plastic bin. Can use as laundry basket and hold water if got water rationing. Bought a dozen of those stackable "bin". Found them very useful.

Thanks Albert Will take note when I have my reno next mth. Sori Piknik , hijacked your blog for a while

Yes, steel pipe is badly done. Are there stainless stain joints? We have stainless steel pipes too which are still in good condition but the joints had all oxidised and became green and white. The on/off knobs for the water supply also got corroded.
-
Are the mum/daughter photographed the aggressor or the victim? Whichever way, their neighbour will know liao . Even staying in pte property also got problem, flat dwellers' risk would be higher.
-
Nope, NeoBy. We're fortunate enough not to be in the news . I supposed these personalities are extremely common here. No harm done as long as they don't go overboard. We'd just try our best to accommodate them and not make a mountain out of a molehill.

Quotes and rough sketches by designer being prepared now. Should receive them via fax by this week while confirmation of contract by next week. Mid to end April will be busy with our stuff. Comes May will be busy selecting materials, packing and moving.

If center also got water spray, then it will be perfect for us. We like strong, powerful jets! Anticipating someone will suggest garden hose, wash bottom ones or those used by TC cleaner huh!? Thanks May and Dotty for the info. -
Like the colour theme Will there be a shower screen in your common bathroom to prevent splashes from damaging your basin cabinet in the long run?

Gee, passed by this place every month and didn't know it's SPACE. I love to LOOK at nice things too, touch them and drive the sales staff crazy by asking for the price and then not buying. Too EX liao
