Day 32 (10 Sep 2012) And he said "Let there be light!"... Yes, the electrians started cutting the holes and installing the downlights today. Okay, a small problem though. We'd use the smaller 4" 9w downlights for the yard and the bigger 6" 15w ones for the rest of the house. But we realise that even with the smaller lights, it is very very bright. Oh no, wonder if the bigger lights will mean it's too glaring!

Hollow blocks are pretty soild when cemented over. Definitely no hollow sound. I guessed the plywood should be okay ba after cement and tiling. If moisture still can get in after that, then workmanship must be pretty lousy liao.

Wood panels and gate repainted. Now looks like new liao Dining wall. I must say that the painters are very good people. When I came by i noticed he was painting one of the rooms but the windows were all closed. Needless to say the smell of the paint was pretty bad for health. I asked him to open up some windows but he said he doesn't want the paint to get dust specks or dirt from the wind while it's wet. I was like....

The Helping Hands Mover
Minerat replied to kenkoh88's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
I used Helping Hands when moving out. The experience was pretty traumatic for me. I will not use or recommend them again. -
Looks like there's alot of white-based ones you didn't get to see. If you want to check out the full range, can drop by Hafary.

Did you consider 3142 (Shimmer white)? Looks like Osprey but with shimmers

My guess is moulding due to lousy paint used. Same thing happened to me. Suggest to repaint using a better quality paint.

The same thing happened to me! I think some of these contractors were pretty unscrupulous. Just to share, my previous house, there is a piece of wall where I used penalite. In 1/2 year, mould grew on that piece of wall. So for my new house, I topped up almost $2K more to ask for top of the line ICI Dulux All and Nippon odourless all-in-one paints. But on the first day when painting was supposed to start, I noticed that some paints were penalite and some were Vil5000. I kicked up a fuss and insisted the painter changed them. My ID called the painter and said they will change...I also called my ID and reminded him NOT to paint my walls with the inferior paint. He assured me again and again that they will not do it....and guess what? The next day when I checked, they've painted some of my walls with the inferior paints. I was so I called my ID and the painter boss down and gave them a big piece of my mind. From then on, I only see ICI Dulux All and Nippon odourless all-in-one paints when I walk around the house. They also repainted the walls using the correct series. I checked and ensure that they did. So my advice is not to compromise on paint. When mould grows, it will be very difficult to get rid of. BTW my painter said Matex is a very very low grade paint that they only use to paint ceiling and nowhere else.

Move date has been shifted to 29 Sep as the mover is not available on 28 Sep. We have decided to use CYC Movers because they were the movers that my previous owner used to shift out. When we first took posession of the house, we were very amazed by the good condition of the floorings. There were no marks at all, a sharp contrast to my own movers who scratched my floors big time with their trolleys and dragging of bulky items. Hence I checked with him and confirmed indeed their movers take off shoes while inside the house and most importantly, hand-carry inside. That sealed it for me!

I absolutely love your staircase!

I intend to ask ceiling guys to cut out the portions of the ceiling to see how bad is the damage. Hopefully it's minor and can be easily resolved by applying waterproofing to the screw joints as suspected by the roofing guys. If not have to tear down and redo the whole roof and replace the insulation materials. Sian

Day 30 (07 Sep 2012) It was raining very heavily today and on a hunch I went back to check for leakages. Bad news, found 2 wet patches on the kitchen false ceiling. That means water is leaking into the new roof, through the insulation materials and soaked through the ceiling. Called roofing and false ceiling guys down tomorrow liao. Need to open up and check how bad is the damage. Need to spot and rectify the leakage too. On the bright side, ceiling guy finally patched up the centre portion of the skylight so that the flashing is not visible anymore
