  1. oops... even though i've moved back to sg, i'm still buying stuff on taobao cos some of the stuff really hard to find in SG/too ex... almost shipped back a Tiffany style lamp for my place but realised it wouldn't go so i didn't...now over this one...
  2. Forgot to add in the additional exchange rate charged by 65daigou cos they actually help you pay. If you have a chinese bank account, all you need is actually just a shipper (you can do a search, some ppl recommend a shipper somewhere), which would cut the middleman charges by these guys. Btw, if they know you are shipping it overseas and require extra packing, you can alert the seller and get him to do it for you. Most of the sellers have very good sales service. Taobao very easy, like ebay but way bigger range, and i like it that you release payment only on satisfactory receipt of the goods, not like ebay. And if you can't find it on taobao, it's probably not being manufactured anywhere...
  3. wah...ok, now that you mention it, i did remember doing that for my parents' place many years ago when the place was done...at least for a couple of rounds, but we had a helper then so it was faster... argh...
  4. I can't stand that too but am assuming a few rounds of vacuum and mop will get rid of it ? I was puzzling over how to wash the floor and scrub in the living room with all the built-in cabinets ah ?
  5. It doesn't say how heavy the whole packaging is but if you use 65daigou, the first 0.5kg is S$5.70 and $1.70/0.5kg coming by sea, plus 8% of your bill. If you add it up, not so sure if it's worth it, unless it's an international warranty set, which is likely not for most stuff bought in china.
  6. Ehh...aren't cutlery drawers of a standard size ? I better go and check too ... lol
  7. Nice door ! Yeah, the only way to conceal the pelmet is to box it up, but looking at your picture and clearance, doing it just to conceal the pelmet can look odd if not done properly (do it to match your kitchen wall tiles), unless you cover it all the way to the ceiling - which may look odd if not done properly... My door was done on the outside of the kitchen (so the pelmet hangs outside kitchen instead of inside) - visually, the door and pelmet looks like a continuation of my shoe cabinets which is outside the kitchen.
  8. I actually have this cabinet and am wondering how to raise it up - does anyone know if Ikea has the "legs" to raise it up (I sent an email to Ikea to ask and never got a reply) ? I'm planning to go down and ask at the store next ... But was wondering if anyone has any idea ? Or know if any DIY stores feature this kind of blocks or something to raise cabinets like these up ?
  9. I haven't hung it up yet as the guys are doing rectification work this week. To quote my ID, accidents can happen... I'll see if I can hang it up and take a picture for you one of these days. They're definitely not closed, they're on the 2nd floor, 1 or 2 doors away from the Evergreen Stationery store. Artline has been there for donkeys years ... Remember them at that spot ever since i first worked at suntec >10 yrs ago... They were very nice - they stored my items for me at their store until I was well and ready to pick them up and that was about 2-3 months after I bought.
  10. Yep, only Artline carries his works, they close at around 7+pm every day and are closed on Sundays. Look for Dawn, she's very knowledgeable and friendly. I've always liked his style, just never got around to buying any of his works. Mine is a custom 24" print on canvas costing about $980 - the gallery had to ask for his permission to specially produce that size so it was more costly. Took about a month to produce. They seem to have updated their site, this is the print I bought. But his normal paper prints (in varying sizes, ready framed in white mostly) are going for a lot more cheaper. I think a small one, roughly 10" or so (total framed size) is $100+ and upwards. I would have bought that except my wall is a little too big so that one would have been too small.
  11. umm, at this point i guess you gotta make a choice liow. firstly, you have listed the constraints about not being able to hack the floor tiles. at the same time, it is bothering you everytime you see it. so which one is harder to live with, as in which compromise do you have to make ? make no mistake, either one will require a big compromise on your side - so it's a matter of which one (short term pain) will result in something that will make you feel better in the longer run. if it were me, i would bite the bullet and get the tiles fixed once and for all - otherwise, i will forever be thinking about this and being unhappy about this everytime i see it. it may not be visible to other ppl but i would know it's there - gao eh to the mind ... and for x number of years you're going to live there ? ummmm ....
  12. I actually bought a print from Choy Moo Kheong from Artline Gallery - figured I would support local artists...hee...unfortunately, the print I bought is not shown online but is a gorgeous autumnal one with leaves in red, orange and yellow... I like Afremov's stuff but his style doesn't fit into my current theme...may consider buying one or two to keep for the next house...heh
  13. Yes...I was asking around, if you want cheap, you need to take a flight to HCM or Hanoi cos that's where the artists are ... I figured the price would work out about the same...heh heh... You can probably consider Afremov's style as well ...
  14. One Piece Painting at Joo Chiat, roughly around SGD400+ upwards depending on size...check out their website for some samples, Easton is the guy to chat to... nice guy although i didn't buy from them in the end...
  15. hi mrsloo, out of curiosity, how was golden leaf in terms of quality of the blinds and installation ? i almost used them but in the end didn't as they couldn't fit me in so i'm curious how they performed since quite a few ppl recommended them...
  16. o dear...hopefully it gets solved soon... well, depending on where the location of the stained tiles, in the worst case, maybe cover with a rug or one of those floor stickers (I saw in DIY stores) ?
  17. Juz want to warn ppl about Lucky Khoon since there hasn't been many reviews about them - very popular with IDs and contractors I believe. I bought a cheap CP-Uno WC (and a bunch of other stuff) from them - it leaked about 3 weeks after installation (luckily I haven't moved in yet). My plumber found that it was cracked originally (was patched, I have pictures) and hence the leakage. This was replaced with a new, identical one which promptly leaked as well !! This time, the day after installation cos this time, I really started "testing" it - scared liow. At this point, I lost confidence in their product and asked for a refund and was flatly refused. Instead, they "generously" offered to replace it with a more expensive one (aka "better" - ya right, sorry for my scepticism ) with an "ai lai, mai sua" attitude. Sorry, at this point, 老娘不稀罕 (english: i dun give a *insert-your-favourite-expletive*) - i wrote it off and bought a new one (different brand, different shop). Morals of the story : 1) dun buy cheap WCs; 2) dun buy from this store cos their after-sales service attitude sux big time Some people may say I'm crazy to simply reject their offer to replace (and hence my $$) but to me, this is more not having to deal with them anymore - what if the replacement dies after a few months ?? I want the peace of mind... P.S. I looked through the lemon law definition - it basically states that they can keep replacing until it is ok, but the interpretation of "If the seller fails to repair or replace the goods within a reasonable time or without significant inconvenience to consumer, the consumer may ask for a reduction in price or return the product for a refund." is very grey currently. They simply stated that I can go ahead and invoke this on them (which made more more furious) - so just for the heck of it, I do want to find out what my rights are under this.
  18. Oooh, so excited cos i ordered the same thing i.e. the kitchen towel holder, arriving end of this month...
  19. I actually also cross-check items between amazon and taobao to see if i can get the same thing from the OEM supplier, or cheaper (not often). The catch is shipping - most people use 65daigou (check other threads in renotalk for details) but i used to live there for a while so i not only have a chinese bank account, I also have people who are regularly going back and forth between china and here so shipping for me is virtually free. An example is here: Amazon - J-me remote control tidy Taobao equivalent But if you do get enough mass, I think shipping over here is not so bad. I have a stupid question about amazon shipping though - how come they're splitting my single order into so many shipments by iparcel ? weird...
  20. Ummm, not sure what religious affiliation you have or if you have any. Maybe getting a priest/monk etc to bless your house will give you some peace of mind, at least mentally ? If you don't have any religious affiliation, then you can try this - go to Little India and ask the general store there (there's this big one that's like a provision shop, sells everything, just behind Tekka Mall) for a bag of the cone shaped incense they use for cleansing the house - it's quite cheap. Very smoky and strong but I've been told that this is used to cleanse places of bad energy cos of the components used in the incense. Burn one in the different areas of your house or walk around the house to infuse the place with the smoke and do it every month or so. Remember to get a clay plate or pot to put the incense in cos this one gets pretty hot as it's quite large. Even my FSM say it's good, just smells a little strong.
  21. may i know where you got your dust covers from ?
  22. Sorry, wasn't paying attention so not very sure, try checking their online catalogue at hsw.com.sgbefore you go down ? I also saw a few of these in Tangs Orchard basement as well, but don't remember which brand...sorrie...
  23. I saw a few nice ones at Howard's Storage World as well, looks similar to this...
  24. Agree with MrsLoo - the stains maybe can live with but the holes... uhh.... It's the final stretch - jia you !
