  1. I can attest to that. I do that all the time. The drip doesn't affect the meter that much compared to a full blast. I extend that to toilet cistern as well. Unless the toilet is high traffic, else there's no need to refill that cistern at full speed. So shut it down the minimum and let it fill very slowly. I'm not sure if 2nd method helps, but my bills doesn't exceed $100 so far.
  2. Such things leave a sour taste if left undone. Uncle has very strong pride in his work and he wants to deliver the best. All these on top of his unmatchable prices, where was he 2 years ago. hahaha.
  3. Uncle very good ah... My cornices were $1100 lor.
  4. It's still quite fast to have done hacking of all the tiles in the whole house, that feature wall and the pitted holes in preparation for tiling/plastering all within that short period. I'm very glad things are going very well for you, esp the option of renting a place right next door, what are the odds. Now you see the power of the dust already, cannot imagine staying there when renovation is ongoing.
  5. The soft closing in my common toilet is already spoilt, in less than a year. The one in the mbr toilet is still working. I think there is a life span, and we shouldn't force it down when closing also, must let it go down by itself.
  6. Glad that you read, I gave a more complete explanation of this -blame sharing- which you thought was ridiculous. Thinking back at what you said, maybe you were right after all. The mods didn't give a reason why or how for locking it. So now we are posting all over the place. No idea if I'm allowed to open another T blog for such a purpose.
  7. Yes, it's been locked by the moderators Have you read the subsequent entries after our conversation that time, revealed much more things.
  8. Such pictures are very exciting! The progress to a better home! That's quite a bit done if you just started, very fast in fact.
  9. I didn't get the details, when I first heard the price tag of $200 per drawer, I already dropped the idea completely. I haven't started on the new blog yet. Still considering, if there's a new blog, I can't continue from where I stopped, I would have to restart all over again. And you guys and gals would be seeing the same old things again.
  10. There used to be something like a white chalk where you draw around the path of the ants, they don't like that, and they will go away. But I'm not sure if that kills them ... or where it can be found these days. Right now, I use COMBAT, this ant poison, they will bring home and whole clan wipe out. -_-
  11. I just heard of this promo by the local distributor from 4th to 8th May 09, just in time for Mother's day. Model 530 is going at $728, 560 is going at $918 Still significantly higher than US prices.
  12. Hm, if the kitchen is small, throw in discounts & freebies, it will end up quite a good bargain. All the fanciful stuff like black glass, aluminium handles, soft closing, blum systems. I've no idea actually, WK knew of this a month ago, they would have closed it back then. If it were closed because of personal info, then perhaps they should have censored her links there.
  13. BLUM is nice! But it costs like $200 for each drawer. Uncle Soon is very nice to you for giving them free. How much per/ft was he charging you for the kitchen carpentry, convenient to reveal? I will do up free advertisement for him on my blog. hehe. I'm like a wandering spirit now, locked out from my own place. But now I've time to visit all the tblogs and make comments. :D I've no idea what the mods are doing either since they didn't give any explanation, they didn't reply me even after I PM them.
  14. This one really, 2 different preference by 2 different group of people. Some say front load much better, uses lesser water, not so harsh on clothes. Some say top load is not all that bad. I settled for front load because I buy all that claims. It's definitely more expensive, but a mid end front load at a good discount can be the same price as a high end top load.
  15. Hah, I got depth limit to consider also because of that stupid base. LG 7.5 got shorter depth than other brands. I've checked. Most brands are 600mm, LG is 550mm only. Mine is that silver LG inverter model, got it at a very good price at harvey norman, almost $300 discount.
  16. I have the same toilet light also. It's $55 from Pantech, comes in 3 sizes, silver/white/good/black exterior. I got the medium one, it's very bright, it can be quite glaring if the glass is not frosted in the middle and you happen to look up.
  17. Yes, CC sells them at wholesales/contractor prices, that is a trade secret which most retails shops and ID firms wouldn't want people to know. If the IDs were the ones who purchased them on your behalf, they will buy from CC ($600) and charge you balestier prices ($900), instant $300 profit! I've left another message for you about the flatpanel/fatbox switches in my blog also. Do remember to ask your ID if they can be installed flat like the picture in red. Here As for sink, nowadays a lot of things are manufactured in China. But I believe companies with a reputation would want to maintain that. It doesn't make economical sense for them to sacrifice quality and risk their name for cheaper production cost. The QC should still be up to mark, else it's really suicidal. Do get the allowable dimensions for the sinks first. Another point for you to consider is also the size of the sink and the size of your cabinet. Big sink = Smaller tabletop area. You would really appreciate that extra table top surface area for your temporary items like chopping board, pots, bowls & plates, and for defrosting. But if you have enough space, no issue. Also, look for a tap with a suitable height, at least the kettle must go under effortlessly without any struggle. Jimmy movers charged me $250 for moving and disposal, they provide the carton boxes as well. I think it was quite a good rate. There was an occurrence that day though, they were quite late because of a previous job, which I can't really fault them on because they were late for a good reason. Some unreasonable customer before us made them run 3 trips instead of 1 because she suddenly included a lot of things. And he charged her the same price. I really pity the workers... 3 trips should be 3X the price, because her things cannot fit into 1 truck load. He was apologies and all when he came, I think he gave me a better rate because of that also, not sure if he charges for disposal, but I got mine free. Despite that glitch, Jimmy movers is still highly recommended, because he was responsible for the previous customer, he could have dump her after 1 trip, but he didn't and he didn't charge her 3x the amount. That integrity and moral is rare. I didn't kick up a fuss over that because he was late for a valid reason. Tell him about this case 2 years ago at Clementi, and he should remember who I am. Tell him you are recommended by me, he might give you good rates too. Let him know I'm singing his praises in this forum till this day.
  18. Haha, I took an unoffical course in design, but not really in practice. Since I chanced upon your situation, and it takes less than 10 mins to edit one of my existing drawings then upload. Why not. Glad to be of help.
  19. It was just nice, can squeeze in another few pieces of clothes, but I didn't want to risk it. There was once it off-centre or something, unbalanced load. It stopped itself and the door cannot be opened. My mother was kancheong that time, gave me a call to tell me that. hehehe.
  20. Hmm, my washer is 7.5kg. But I squeeze in a Queen size fitted sheet, a quilt cover and 4 pillow cases all at the same time. Ermmm, have I overload my washer?
  21. Oh dear, did you go to a generic hardware shop? Those prices are retail prices I believe, Choo chiang sells them at wholesale prices. You should really check them out. Yes, the part about the LED is true, but LEDs in general can last for very long, but then there might be even better designs. Another thing you have to take note, are you fixing these switches just the front panel itself or there's a fat box behind? This nice switches wouldn't look nice with a box behind .... that's how I feel. My ID had given me these MK switches. they may probably look nice if it's just the front panel, minus the yellowing box behind ... But it looks generally plain and cheap, it's $1.70 for the one gang at Choo Chiang. Asia Excel! I like their services. I got taps, instant heaters and bidets from them. I noticed the franke sink, but it was out of my budget, so I gave it a miss, much to my regret, it was perhaps another $100 more than the one I got. My sink was from Chuan Heng (at Jalan Besar), it comes with an attached dustbin for convenience, it was a big mistake. Please don't ever get any sink like that ... The leaking sink I've sealed up that dustbin 3 times with silicon, doesn't work .. Eventually I sealed it up completely with aluminum tape. From a user's point of view, I would also recommend matt surface rather than shiny surface, because it's hard to prevent scratches on a shiny surface, water marks will be very obvious also. But that would be your preference, I'm just sharing my personal opinion.
  22. Kari, actually you can consider a piece of matt stainless steel on that white wall? At least it goes with your sink and tap material, it doesn't look too off. Edited: Better visualisation with a rough drawing at least. Not the complete drawing, I tried drawing the sink and tap but failed. :x From these rough sketches, black really ... makes it very black if you're considering. :x Stainless steel should be ok. If not, a piece of "waterproof mirror" if there is such a thing?
  23. Don't underestimate the convenience of having a house next to the bus interchange or MRT. My old place was right next to those and I took it for granted. I'm sheltered from the rain from the MRT to my place. I can go anywhere with the buses at the interchange. My new place, I'm 15mins away from the MRT, I could waste 60 cents on a feeder bus everyday or walk ... When it rains, it's terrible. If you really liked the location and everything else in the house, go for it if it's within your affordability range. Unless there's another one that's available to consider and compare, if not sometimes you might have to wait a while to find your ideal house again.
  24. Hi, one thing to note about those LED lighting. I read if the LED blows, it would become a normal switch, you can't replace that LED. I did not get any clipsal switches from them, I got the default ones from my ID. Choo Chiang Marketing Pte Ltd Address: 10 Woodlands Loop Singapore 738388 Telephone: (65)-63685922 Fax: (65)-63635922 This is their address which I found on the internet. I'm not sure about the prices too, maybe you can call them to check? They should have other branches also, try looking for one that's nearer to your place.
  25. 3D drawings is for people who can't visualise (like myself, I prefer to see a drawing to know what I would be getting). But if any contractor or ID knows exactly in his head what he will be making without a drawing, good common sense. and a team of good craftsmen to carry out his wishes. You already got it, and that unbeatable price!
