  1. That's good to know. I only have to deal with Viewqwest technical support twice for the fiber broadband at home (to create the Netflix account which is a nightmare and to install a new xiaomi router) but had a lot more dealings with the technical support guys for the installation at my sister's shop house due to bandwidth issues at that area (don't know the technical term) and got it resolved with 1+ month delay. This is the same issue faced by many unhappy new customers who signed up with MR during that period and many were stuck without a broadband service for six months or more if they have already cancelled their existing broadband contract on the assumption that the new fiber broadband from MR will be ready. Being an ex-IT person myself, I was able to get them to explain to me the issues they faced and pushed them to take more control of the installation of the Fiber point handled by the company that does the installation islandwide. I have no idea either: ) gave away the apple TV box after playing with it for a week or two.
  2. Hi Berried, Haha if in doubt, pour in some dettol, or vinegar during wash cycle
  3. Luxe, I think besides exaggreating the thread count many bed linen sellers are out there to mislead consumers with the way they present the information. I was at Robinsons this afternoon and saw a lot of bed linen on sales. Quite a number of brands sell 600-800 TC egyptian cotton bed linens at below $150 per set , but the TC is per 10 cm square and not per square inch. 1 inch is equaivalent to 2.2cm so the TC is significantly less than advertised if it's displayed in the standard per square inch right? So the important thing is you must know what you are paying for, like the design and buy those that are within your budget without paying too much attention to the TC advertised. Any MUJI bed linens lovers here? I love the feel of the cotton and the design, bought a set from Taobao two Years ago that feels exactly the same as the ones I saw at the store here. The website said it's made of 新疆棉...Now I am crazy over beddings made of linen since I saw them on Pinterest and H&M carries them in Europe and ain't too expensive. Need to reserve luggage space when I next visit https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=linen%20bedding%20ideas&rs=rs&term_meta%5B%5D=linen%7Crecentsearch%7C3&term_meta%5B%5D=bedding%7Crecentsearch%7C3&term_meta%5B%5D=ideas%7Crecentsearch%7C3
  4. Berried, Tencel (and bamboo fiber) sheets feel great indeed, I am not sure if the anti bacterial property last forever though? How do you care for tencel sheets? Does washing with high temperature destroy the anti bacterial property?
  5. Hi luxe, I find the thread count number is getting ridiculously high past few years and remember reading an article about what to look out for when buying bed sheets , especially those that claimed to be made of Egyptian cotton. The difference in price and feel is quite huge in the 1000tc Egyptian cotton sheets and quilt cover I bought and I am a little skepticle when I see a bargain sheet with ridiculously low price. They are still comfy to sleep on and I wonder if they are made of 100% egyption cotton and with the threadcount they claimed to be? http://m.styleathome.com/shopping/buying-guides/buying-guide-the-truth-about-thread-count/a/34689
  6. Hi Toh, Netflix and contents that are blocked in a country will not show up in the iTunes account created under the blocked country. It is quite troublesome to maintain two iTunes account indeed. I used to be a big apple fan with all things Apple, and even ripped my entire CD collection into the iTunes in my MacBook before a month long trip away. But I find it increasing annoying when I started torrenting - to view video content in the Mac mini on iPad I had to sync the video file through iTunes, and iTunes doesn't accept certain video formats besides it being quite a pain to sync a big Full HD video file. I switched to Sony tablet and sony smartphone , and ditched iTunes completely after my harddisk crashed and subscribed to spotify for music. The much hyped Airplay technology by Apple has its flaws too, speaker makers like Libratone added Bluetooth technology to their Airplay products in recent years for users who need an alternative to Airplay for streaming music wirelessly. For the entertainment hub I find Mac mini is still pretty okay besides looking sleek, I couldn't find a window-based box that is in the same price range that I want to put on the TV console AND bear with the windows operating system. I am a little slack and have yet to start using a VPN when torrenting my friend who is a big movie buff uses ASTRILL, he said it supports up to three concurrent devices. http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/internet-bandwidth-networking-clinic-4/vpn-speed-comparison-watch-netflix-singapore-astrill-hma-expressvpn-ipvanish-4552085.html
  7. Hi Toh, You can try using the instructions written here to get Netflix on Apple TV, it worked for me when I tried 2 years ago: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/create-itunes-account-access-usonly-contents-credit-card/ Creating a netflix account can be a bit tricky if you don't have an USA credit card. If you are stuck do a Google on how to trick netflix by using a non-USA credit card and an USA postal code to create the account. It worked for me without the need to create an USA PayPal account mentioned in the viewqwest blog above Hi Nextstep, Oh ya I forgot that MyRepublic uses DNS tunnel instead of VPN. I did a fair bit of research on which fiber broadband service provider to use and decided on viewquest, back then MyRepublic had very bad reputation with their technical support and long lead time in installing fiber for new customers, many who signed up during the IT show in August were still not hooked up after December. Viewquest had the most knowledgable technical team and they are way more responsive then the tecchnical support from Singtel and Starhub I dealt with. I hope they maintain their good work and are still active in answering questions on hardwarezone forum.
  8. You need a VPN to watched Netflix in Singapore. I am guessing he subscribed to a VPN service if he is not using Viewquest as the broadband service provider? I switched to Viewquest after my Starhub broadband contract and cable TV contract expire. Tried out Netflix for 1-2 months with the three months free Freedom VPN service and the Apple TV box provided by Viewquest. http://blog.viewqwest.com/two-easy-steps-to-sign-up-for-netflix/
  9. I subscribed to Netflix for a month or two and switched back to torrenting coz I am not a big fan of American TV series and reality shows, and I can still download those that I like from the site that has more European movies besides the usual Hollywood movies and American TV shows Streaming from YouTube is smooth on most days
  10. The chair looks really comfy to laze around! I am looking for one too and fell for something that is beyond my reach hahahttp://m.ambientedirect.com/en/diesel/cloudscape-chair_pid_663_4801.html I had a similar entertainment hub set up at my old place with a Bose sound system, Mac mini and a HD TV for watching movies and listening to music from iTunes for couple of years. At the current place I replaced the Bose with a wireless speaker (no more spagetties behind the TV console!!) got rid of starthub cable TV box and TV cable and bought a new Mac mini for watching movies/tv shows via torrenting. Yes I know, I am still a bit old school, I still prefer to download the video and watch offline even though I have a fast fiber broadband plan from viewquest with direct network connection for the Mac mini For music I ditched iTunes for Spotify, and has another wireless speaker (big jambox) in my bedroom. MY Danish friend told me Libratone is a small company set up by a group of sound engineers from B&O when I asked him about the Libratone Loop. I love that it looks more like a piece of home furnishing item with changable Italian Lamb wool cover.
  11. I like the Hai armchair and the grand entrance to the walkin cabinet and vanity area! Look awesome for a bachelor pad! The TV I bought a year ago is the older Sony Bravia 46" full HDTV KDLW46954A. I hooked it up to a mac mini and a Danish brand Airplay speaker Libratone Loop I looted for less than half the retail price here from Amazon during Black Friday sales last year, with free global shipping: )
  12. Haha ya lor. Are you considering keeping the existing divan box? Maybe can consider changing the legs to make it look prettierhttp://www.prettypegs.com/us/
  13. I saw a few toilet bowls that are suitable for HDB use selling at under $300 during Bravat's annual sales at their new showroom near Commonwealth MRT his August, not sure if there are any good buys now: https://mobile.facebook.com/BravatSingapore/?_rdr
  14. Haha! I use a Desigual blanket/throw with plain bedsheet on warmer months, and quilt on a cooler month like now, the quilt and four pillows cover up more than 80% of the bed.
  15. A cushioned headboard more friendly for the back to rest on but might not be so wallet friendly in the long run due to wear and tear I use a firm pillow as back rest when I sit on the bed, and a thin one when I sleep. Hi Nextstep, some bedframes come with an adjustable bed slat to cater for different height mattresses, check out those if height of the existing mattress is a concern? Another element to consider is are you a blanket or quilt person? If you are a quilt person the tailboard and side of the bedframe will likely be covered by the quilt when you tidy up your bed, so only you know the beauty hidden underneath the quilt:) and which side of the bed is facing the entrance ? Mine the side of the bed is facing the double-door entrance and I find it a pity to hide the wood frame under the quilt cover: ) These are the reasons why I changed out my old thick mattress and use a blanket on warmer months (I rarely sleep with air con on )
  16. I bought the reversible grill and griddle from Amazon as well: ) Couldn't find a cast iron press that ships to Singapore for free, and bought one from Crate & Barrel in the end. I use the press to make toasted cheese sandwich with honey mostly.
  17. Haha OK. Then choose a bed frame that goes well with a thick mattress . Thanks for your kind words. My old place was a 90sqm walkup apt with high ceilings, I gave my ID friend a free hand to design the apt with small input like I want a long bathtub and a separate shower area, and open concept kitchen. She configured the space into a one bedroom apartment in contemporary/loft style with cement screed walls at the dining area and big open space with glass divider and glass door between the bedroom and the living room, dining area and kitchen. Love it but my taste changed a little over the years and I am into old and new things, and colors now. I like a bit of everything with a soft spot for Scandinavian design, having worked for a Swedish company for 10 years with frequent trips to the Southern part of Sweden that is a short ferry+train ride away from Copenhagen. A German friend described my place as modern French + Scandinavian? a Singaporean called it eclectic. I just called it rojak
  18. These are the ones I saw at second charm: https://sg.carousell.com/p/29044826/
  19. Did you check out the stools/side tables at second charm? They are easier on the wallet than C&B and you can get them to customize it into the shape and height and colors you want. I saw a few diamond cut solid wood top with hairpin legs stools selling at around $180 each few months ago, one was painted gold and the other white.
  20. Hi, I overlooked as well when I bought mine: ) I Didn't engage an ID and it's a little stressful sometimes to make all the decisions myself during the renovation process, but thank goodness I had the luxury of time to make some decisions much later after I moved in. Purchase the bed frame you like, the mattress can always be changed out later when necessary:)
  21. Hi not sure if your question is addressed to me or NextStep ? I lost the floor plan (tablet got stolen abroad ). Mine is a Resale 5 room flat at 125sqm, knocked down some walls to make a bigger living + dining area, and a double-door bedroom entrance with mid height wardrobe to make the master bedroom looks bigger Below are some random photos taken past 2+ years https://www.pinterest.com/sarah833/my-hut/
  22. Mine is similar to the first one, I like the bed frame but didn't like the look with a thick mattress: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/633387420784757/ Had it replaced with a customized hard base and a thick memory foam mattress pad
  23. Oh runner's knee: ) I does yoga and there are always poses or styles of yoga I can do when I am injured Do share with us your findings!
  24. Haha I bet you lead a somewhat healthy lifestyle besides consuming the honey? I started drinking Manuka honey a year ago and didn't pay much attention besides knowing that UMF 15+ honey are great in boosting the immune system, the rest are table honey that doesn't have the same quality as Manuka. But I started to pay attention to what I am paying for after reading an article few months ago that over 80% of the Manuka honey sold in the market are not real Manuka honey.Honey World name doesn't appear in the UMF licensee list, that's why I am a little concerned. I ended up buying online from an authorised UMF seller in New Zealand few months ago and my supply is running low now.
