  1. At the end of the day, take everything you read on the forums with a grain of salt. Arguing about everything will result in high blood pressure. If you take time to read things carefully on the forums, it can be a great source of info and advice. On the other hand, as with all public forums, there's plenty of chaff with the wheat that you need to filter out. As Phantom says, we're watching you..
  2. Hi All, I have deleted the email content posted. Posting private emails is not good nettiquette, especially when this is a minor dispute. On another note, lets not get into debates on the personality of an ID, as such perceptions are always subjective, and doesn't serve much purpose. 2 people can have vastly different opinions of the same person. In general, descriptions of what the ID does (e.g. timeliness/ product quality) are more objective than what you feel about the ID. !!
  3. Ladies, there is a function under your Control Panel which allows you to "Manage your ignored users". If you find another user unpleasant for some reason, that is what we have that function for. Once you add another user to it, you will find your ignored user as quiet as a.. rabbit.
  4. Personal comment: The problem with monitoring a reno project closely is that you get to see a lot of "work-in-progress" elements, which may or may not be changed by the contractor later on in the job. To me, problems cropping up in the job cannot be avoided. The real test of the contractor is this: Can he: 1. Keep his cool when problems occur? 2. Suggest a good recovery plan? 3. Complete the job on promised schedule? 4. Resolve all problems prior to handing over? I'm sure with all this publicity the company is getting here (3-5years down the road, this thread will still be here), they don't want to screw up the job either. So in the interest of getting the job done, just cool down and try to work things out. !!
  5. Hi all, please cool down a bit. Although we do have a problem of IDs pretending to be home-owners, we sometimes also go a little overboard when weeding out these undesirables. Thread is closed temporarily for tempers to cool off.
  6. On the topic of weird sounds.. very often it is not your neighbours, but structural movements in the building. Many of us have heard the "marbles-rolling-on-the-floor" sound before.. But how many marbles are around these days? A compilation of some explanations here: http://www.api.sg/research/r05_004.htm
  7. enci, please, please refrain from bringing Buddhism into new threads. No one has asked about it and you have initiated discussion on religion again. As we have mentioned in the past, keep such discussions to PM if they are necessary at all. If you persist in making such posts, we will be forced to alter your posting privileges. We recognize that you are able to make a contribution to these forums, but kindly respect the sensibilities of our fellow forummers.

  9. enci, Thank you for the improved etiquette. Understand your points (2) to (8). In future, would appreciate it if you could take any religious discussion offline, or in PM with the relevant forummers. Similarly, if anyone finds a post with a strong religious message and suspects that it violates out T&C, please report the post to a moderator. For (1), in the context of what you have quoted, it appears that he's more trying to say that XXX is a religious man and will not overcharge/ will give a fair and reasonable price. This implies more that a religious man tends to be more honest. This seems different from actually linking FS practice to religion, or saying that FS is a subset of a religion. Thank you
  10. Hmm.. From what I can see, no one is talking about linking religion to FS at all. Enci, understand that you are trying to help people understand that there is no link between FS and religion. But please note that many people here are uncomfortable with the following: 1. The discussion of religion. We do not encourage this on the boards as it can get very emotional and usually leads no where. In fact, this is stated in our terms of use. http://www.renotalk.com/main/terms.php 2. Use of bold lettering and large fonts. This does not help get your message across more effectively. On the other hand, it appears rude to other forummers, equivalent to raising your voice in real life. We seek to make this a pleasant environment for everyone. !! Thank you.
