hi, juz like to share with you guz. i hv a sharp washing machine for 5 years already. its not like those continental type, not really expensive and not really quiet type of washing machine but it performs its job very well. 5 years ago, 5-6.5kg are common in stores, anything above that is not carry by most of the stores. my sharp bin is those holeless type. reason why i buy this is from advice by experience auntie who is a director and manage housework and a family of 7 all by herself without maid. so she has normal clothes and those expensive office wears and dinner dresses. she tried those front load, top load, continental and japanese brands before. and her advice is that the holeless tub save her clothes, jackets, dresses from damage. damage meaning cotton clothes got tiny chicken pox like cotton balls after brushing it with brush (if you ever do this or have a cotton shirt/skirt, you will understand what i am trying to describe). those tub with holes tend to be abit more rough handling on the clothes. but this does not mean that the clothes are not wash clean, in fact it washes clean of stains also. and also things like blankets, curtains etc. it takes care of them well enough. for me, that is sufficient enough. but the cons is that it does not hv the warm water feature. but of coz if you guz do hv bigger budget, you can buy the more complicated type of washing machine. my is the sharp double pulsator, ES-S800 which i bought 5 years ago. you throw all laundry in, juz press the start button, it auto weigh your load and signal to you how much washing powder you need to put and then after you close the lid, it start to wash, rinse and spin dry. its not that quiet but it does do the job in a neat way. you can also manually select what you like it to do, eg. only rinse, or spin etc. and when it finishes, it sounds a low volume musical alarm to alert you. if i remmeber, it cost around S$550 - S$650 range. i can't remember to exact cost. but its not those large 7kg type lor, so if you hv alot of laundry, you may have to separate the load. i duno whats the price now coz after buy this washing machine, i din look at any others anymore. so far, for all these years, no breakdown, no servicing, juz once awhile where i fill it up with water and dettol to clean the tub coz i throw floor rugs to wash also... hee hee... many ppl say those front load with glass type are gd and also cleans better, got warm water to kill germs etc. but there are many feedbacks that these type ususally hv water leakge problm. i duno how true coz never use b4. maybe you guz like to go to this thread to see all the washing machine discussions. http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1189788323 hope the above helps tingshen, u r rite. whenever there is problm with any electrical goods, its best to get the manufacturer to come and do servicing or repairs. 1stly, the technicians know what went wrong with their products, their usual faults or problms. 2ndly, they are trained specifically to service/repair that brand of products. 3rdly, they got the necessary equipments to do the job.

hi, this is something i have encountered in work and i think it something of common sense. do bear in mind some contractors who offer cheap prices to do your renovation. they tend to either cut corners or give you sub-standard quality of materials or workmanship, etc. eg. cabinets and wardrobe must be of certain thickness so that it will not warb. and do check if the contractors have alot of projects on hand coz they may not be able to cope and they either sub to sub-cons or they must hurry to finish all projects and this might end up giving you lesser priority and attention. no matter how gd the after-sales service is, it is always better to do it right in the 1st place. i am in constrn line and i know this line's dirty tricks and how competitive it is. its a dog eat dog world. do check out their background, do company search, financial check, visit their ongoing site to see their workmanship, ask them how many projects currently doing, % of completion, etc.

hi, from what i know, toshiba outdoor unit is directly from japan. the rest of other brands are from thailand, china etc. both are comparably good. generally all japanese brands of air-con technology are already on par, not alot of new improvements mechanically. but iregardless of whether you can clean it or not, do bear in mind that what you can clean is only up to the filter portion. you still need to get service man to service the air-con once in a while after the 1st year. eg. check for leakage of gas and all pipings, chemical wash the pipes, check electrical connections and cablings etc and of coz run the system and check if temperature is correct. for housing units, balancing is not required. but for large areas with ducted air-con, balancing of air is required which is a much much more tedious tasks as airflow had to be measured and calculated in order to make sure that the air-con temperature is constant and reaches all corner that is supposed to be air-coned base on the different assumptions of full load, half load, etc.. so for our hm use, this is not an issue at all. korea brands still have room to catch up. juz like the cars in the mkt. jap cars will generally top korea made cars. den come the china brands. juz bear in mind, a bigger unit eg. if your hall is big and you require a higher btu type, den inverter will help you save money, not that you have to on your air-con for 8hrs per day, 7 days per week to see the result. the other thing is inverter is environmentally more friendly coz consume lesser electricity. nowadays, those office buildings are using alot of inverter type of vrv system as this helps to save electricity bills and environmentally friendly. hope the above helps

ya, mace is rite. try going to those neighbourhood shops, you will be surprise that they are infact cheaper than those curtain companies.
-
oh ya, mace, forgot to clarify this, i am in constrn field but in no way im promoting my company service here coz my company do turnkey govt, industrial, commercial big projects. not housing projects. so no conflict interest here. but i hv major difficulties in sourcing ids, renovators, electrical products etc. coz i must check that these company dun hv conflict with my company, coz we must declare everything for audit, vy strict rules we hv here. so maybe that are some of the reasons why i hv to source like crazy for even simple stuffs. and also another reason is that i keep reading up threads where there are contractors, promoters of their own stuffs that they are selling, so i double and double confirm, i am not trying to sell anythings or promoting any company here. juz plain putting up what i know to share with forumers here.

Hi, there are some really nice ready made curtains that are sewn with day and nite curtain together. but suggest you go around and look 1st. juz to share with you guz on my experience with curtains and advices from many aunties who used and had curtain experience. 1st, to save money if you have a budget, is to buy ready made curtain. ready made curtain are not as bad as what we think they are. there are some really nicely done up ones. 2nd, installation of rods and racks are usually quite standard. pricing ranging from S$3.50 - S$6 for normal wood rod. anything above S$6 is those fancy and nicer looking wood rod. but do bare in mind, normally visitors don't juz stand there and admire your curtain wood rod. S$3.50 for rack type. 3rd, nowadays the in type is using organza for day curtain. similarly, in the past, ppl use lacy type or abit lacy type for day curtain. so if you don't mind, abit lacy type is worth your money if you are doing custom made. it has a english country feel. 4th, consider the durability of the material. for organza, it can be scratched, meaning you will see the fabric string been pulled or stretch juz like silk. so do consider this factor. can your curtain materials be machine washed or do you need to send for laundry service? izt easily cleaned or stained? 5th, do not only consider abt asthetic factor. did you guz consider how are often are you and how are you going to wash your curtains? usually, you will throw in your washing machine and wash but if its a too thick and heavy type, i think your washing machine will hv a hard type washing it clean. 6th, and how many sets of curtains are you going to hv? some may think 1 set is enough. but if its spoiled or washed, do you need changing curtains? 7th, steps to ask for curtain quotation: a) measure your window size b) measure your window + the top, bottom, left and right wall size c) look up yellow pages and send them fax / emails / call them up for quotation d) go to those shops to view their ready made curtains sample and custom made sample e) go to nieghbourhood curtain shops, some may offer vy gd price and advice 8th, sizes do matter. generally, half length and 1 layer of nite curtain only cost lesser. other alternatives: 1) buy materials from spotlight, arab street textile shops etc., and get ppl to sew for you 2) diy yourself 3) go JB to buy

hi, can go bras basah and try. there are some shops dealing in chinese paintings on the 2nd storey i think.
-
hi mace, i in constrn field so i always ask things in vy detail, like a 4years old kid, always ask how ah, why leh, izt.. its juz that i think i can share some infor that i hv gather. and as for eng98, as i hv stated earlier, you can use the pricing as your base of comparison. installation work for heater include labour cost to install of heater and pipe but exclude pipe material and brackets (if your heater requires but normally the heater comes with bracket which you hv to check with your seller before purchase). piping cost means pipe material cost. you hv to ask your contractor / ID what is included. eg. pipe could mean stainless steel pipe, copper pipe, pvc pipe etc. copper and stainless pipe will cost more. pvc pipe is for normal cold water only. usually they will use stainless steel pipe. so for hot and cold water usage, usually its 1 outgoing pipe for hot water, 1 incoming pipe for cold water. and the pipe cost depend on the length that they are running in your hse. eg. if you juz want to install hot and cold pipe connecting to your 2 toilets shower points (eg. MBR and common toilets) to your heater, then it will be shorter length, thus cheaper cost in pipe but may mean a cheaper cost in installation labour cost. but it you are installing pipe to connect to all your washing point, eg. kitchen, toilet shower, toilet tap, washing machine, etc. you will have to pay more for pipe material cost. and the installation labour cost will still be the same. but if you are installing for a, say, 2-storey maisonnette HDB, private landed property type of house, eg. 2-storey terrace, bungalow, etc., den your piping material and installation labour cost will be higher. you can also buy the heater yourself, get your ID to install for you or get his contractor to install for you. You subtract out this cost from your ID quote and see if its worthwhile to do it coz you will hv to remember that there maybe hazzle involve, eg. supervising and advising the contractor where you want to install your heater, which tap point (for your easy understanding, i put tap point, usually ppl in this line will juz say point) you want to hv hot water, etc. And also you will need your contractor to list the length of pipe, its cost, installation labour cost, and any bracket cost if there are any bracket require for your heater. usually installation labour cost is from S$60 - S$80 excluding all other materials. check with your ID to see if he is ok with it. usually, as you are the customer, you hv the right to decide what you want to do, so your ID should respect your wishes. if your hse already hv the pipe, den you will save the piping material cost, so if you think the storage heater tank is too old, den juz buy the tank for replacement will do. but do take note that storage heater tank can last for more than 10 years. check the age of the storage heater by checking the brand and try to call up the current representative company in Spore to see if they are able to help you to track the heater tank's age. if its still 5-8years old, its in gd condition and you dun mind, den suggest you dont change it. hope the above infor helps you. to really understand and do a rough calculation on how big a tank you require for your hm, i can recommend this website for all to read. wah thumbs up for admin / mod i was still blur blur happily reading the conversations leh well, this shows how unprofessional some ID can get. and agree with Devilaz, how can anyone do 10 3d drawings for ppl who may not even be your customers yet, it is not as if you are living in those type of mansion where there are plenty of rooms and thus require so many 3d drawings. from what i heard from those rich ppl, for their ultra big private houses, they go get those specialised IDs who specially do only private houses or bigger projects and these IDs will go all the way out to woo their rich customers. and in such cases, 10 3d drawings are nothing to them. they can even do a presentation like what you saw on our PM Lee's national day speech presentation on punggol. and imagine if there are 10 customers who dun choose you, each of them you do 10 3d drawings for them, that's 100 3d drawings leh den might as well change line and be professional artist better and normally, for ID, these drawings are like their copyright designs, so they will not give you unless you sign contract to employ their services or you pay for their drawings. but really, i take my hats off for the gd work done by admin & mod -
hi everybody, i don't know if you guz are talking about microwave oven or conventional oven, anyway, here's my feedback. i hv already bought a La Germania standing cooker cum oven. some ppl says its old pattern, no gd etc. etc. but i like it coz of the following reasons... 1) the hob is concealed type. from many experienced aunties' advice, conceal type is better if you cook alot becoz soups or cook stuffs may overflow and drip onto the hobs. and it may be difficult to clean if your hob is those that are exposed types. you can easily scoop up or wipe away any thing that is deposited there due to cooking, or any other dirt. exposed type may allow cook stuffs and other dirt to drip or drop into the hob through the holes. concealed type: after you remove all the removable parts of the cooking top, there is a welded in cup sort of pattern. this is the concealed type. exposed type: after you remove all the removable parts of the cooking top, there are exposed holes. many sellers will tell you got holes are better coz fire burn better, can control the fire volume (eg. there may be 3 rings of fire, eg. big, medium or small whereby big = 3 rings of fire activated, medium = 2 rings of fire activated - the outer and middle ring, small = 1 centre small ring of fire activated) 2) the oven generally can cook up quite a few dishes and the functions are sufficient enough for novice cookers. for professional cook, you may want a separate oven type from Bosch, Electrolux, Brandt, De Dietrich or Miele which have more functions but price may range from S$3K onwards! 3) thirdly, i got it for a price of S$1238 for the big stainless one, with a free cleaning stick during the promotion at citygas gallery. and hopefully, i am able to use it to make kuehs, cakes, and many other dishes... You may want to read up the threads below on one of the forumer's comment on oven. http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1188663249 http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1158332820 "Bosch ovens are good but expensive. brandt offers value for money. electrolux isnt that too bad but just that the price jump between models is like brandt also jump very high. de dietrich is best bet but prices also wah seh.. miele is fantastic too but price-- killer.ariston --- err nay i will give it a skip, indesit not even in my shortlist" http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3008 hope the above helps ppl here who want to buy oven and hob. you can go to the following showrooms, ask alot of questions, touch and feel before making any decision: - citygas, got nicely displayed sets of many type of hobs, hoods, ovens, heaters etc. - best denki - harvey norman - safe - hoe kee hq at no. 8 genting lane anybody want to add on...?
