  1. Have seen something similar before at Lightcraft
  2. Think you are out of luck. Don't think these conti top loaders come smaller than 600 x 600mm and definitely not a washer/dryer combination. May be easier to just relocate your washing machine to another spot.
  3. Vpost USA can be used as a shipping option. If not, one can buy these bins from Ebay UK too. I actually prefer the rectangular bins compared to the butterfly cans as they appear to be more feature-packed (stay open function, fingerproof finish, quiet closing and less squeaky) but it seems the 25L version is no longer brought in.
  4. Ahh..in that case the HomeFix Flagship store at Marina Shopping Centre should have a wider range. However, the full range is still not available in Singapore. One can buy from the SimpleHuman webpage though although the shipping cost may be a killer.
  5. Your supposition is incorrect. Adelphi has numerous shops that sell HT systems complete with installation. The local distributor for Onkyo is Tat Chuan so you can check the showroom there (1st floor). Another good shop to check out is KEC Sound Systems, also on the 1st floor tucked at a corner.
  6. You sure you did a search through this sub-forum? I just did a simple search using the key words "power saving" and got these two postings on the first three page results: Enesave Minisun
  7. Found the post, #10 here: Plasma Drop And no, the warranty does not cover for such events.
  8. Oh...you should not have bought the overpriced Monster cables... When you say the picture is not clear, what program were you viewing at that point of time? If it is free-to-air channels (5, 8 U, Central, CNA etc) that you are connecting using the normal cable point, then picture quality has nothing to do with the TV but the outdoor antenna. I myself face bad picture quality for these channels since I do not subscribe to SCV. If you have SCV, then your TV should be connected to the SCV box using at least the composite (yellow-video and red/white-audio) but if there is component connections (red/blue/green-video) then that will give the best picture quality. The TV manual will be a good start to figure out the right and best connections to use for optimal picture quality.
  9. I did see a picture from this forum before but can't remember the post or what search keywords I used. It showed a picture of a LCD or was it a Plasma TV that came off a feature wall and smashed through a coffee table, taking part of the feature wall along with it...nasty.
  10. No special skill required but you will need to ensure that the drilled holes use the appropriate mounting plugs (weight-wise) to hold the screws. You may need additional bracing behind the feature wall to better hold the screws. Do a search on Google for tips and procedures on how to carry this job out. You will also need a leveling device to ensure that the mount is secured parallel to the floor.
  11. That is a huge collection of media! A tech-savvy person will actually burn all these into hard disks and stream it off a computer and sell the whole collection to recoup some monies (of course must make sure there is a backup system in place like a RAID 5 configuration). This will take up the least amount of space as probably only 3 or 4 1GB hard disks are required. Disadvantage will be the time needed to rip the CD/DVDs and the technical know-how needed. Second option is to buy those Billy bookcases from Ikea and store your CD/DVDs in them. Since these bookcases are modular, you should be able to accommodate your collection. If you are afraid of dust, then just get the optional glass doors.
  12. An all-in-a-box HTS or HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) system will come with a AV receiver already so there is no need for a separate AV receiver. Advantage of a HTiB will be its small form factor and ease to integrate into a room with less cables and space taken up. However, in nearly all cases, a separate AV receiver + speaker cum subwoofer package will outperform a HTiB. Your choice will depend on which is more important to you...form versus function.
  13. Am also using a Latex mattress myself from Getha, affordable and comfortable. A lot of mattress brands are really hyped up and overpriced. Add this topper and that using esoteric materials and the price goes up by a few thousand. Even for the same brand, there are so many different model names, making it difficult to do a cross comparison. Very dubious marketing tactics employed...
  14. Hi there, Cellini has something similar under their Manhattan model range. You can check out their website or do a search through the forums for the sizes and specs. It definitely looks better than the Ikea one.
  15. Click on the search button and do a search for 'Goodrich' or 'wallpaper'. Other forumers including myself have posted on this matter before.
  16. Yup, their location is off the main walkways. I am surprised that you went down, found Kingsley on the 4th floor but did not try asking either the Kingsley personnel or any other passer-by or shop owner for KEC's exact location. Wouldn't you have saved a wasted trip if you had done so?
  17. That's great to know! It is not possible to get the best deal all the time due to various factors. So long as it is reasonable and more importantly you are satisfied with the purchase then you should be happy enough.
  18. Can try Sim Lim Tower. Some shops there should sell something like this.
  19. I think the round downlights are fine but are they single or double PLC? I believe the best way to check if the deal you are getting is reasonable is getting a quotation from another 2 shops and do as close as an apple-to-apple comparison (some shops may not carry the same brand/type of light). A simple way to ensure you are not being carroted will be to visit the light shops that members here have recommended by doing a search.
  20. I second what Vince has said. You should keep the sub and CD player and use them till they fail. Not sure about the specs for the SR-92 but if it can decode DD and DTS and if you are not too much of a HT fanatic, then you can re-use it too. Invest in a good set of main speakers, center and rear surrounds (preferably all from the same model range) and you are good to go! You may need a DVD player though...I suggest getting an Oppo which is by far one of the best DVD players in the market (have to get it 2nd hand as no retail shops stock this brand). However, all these are just opinions. At the end of the day, it is your money and you will be living with the equipment so it is still good to do your own research and make an informed judgement/choice based on the data gathered.
  21. The front main and center speakers should be of the same brand/model if possible to ensure even tonality. The rear surrounds are not as important. However, since many loudspeaker manufacturers now sell HT speakers as a set, then it is more convenient to buy them as a set. Have not been heavily involved in the HT scene for some time but you should visit The Adelphi and check out some of the systems available there. Brands like PSB, KEF, Paradigm, Energy, Mission etc. are definitely a cut above the mass market Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung etc. A good HT system should last many years. My own HT system purchased 2nd hand way back in 2001 is still serving me well to-date and is still relevant today (just can't play the latest surround sound formats but good enough for regular DVDs in DD, DTS-EX).
  22. Yes, the PC can still be hooked up to the AV receiver. You just have to ensure that the PC's display card has the required video output (S-video, component, DVI, VGA) and audio output (Co-axial, TOSLink for digital signal output to be processed by the AV receiver). The AV receiver is definitely the heart of the set-up as most audio signals requiring DD, DTS and other multi-channel surround formats will be decoded by the receiver. For video, it is less important as you can always directly connect it to the TV unless the video switcher unit in the receiver is good. Do a search on Google for connection to AV receiver, many guides and suggestions abound to assist you in understanding this further.
  23. The Yamaha is a sound field projector that utilizes the side and rear walls to reflect sound waves to simulate surround sound. It will work as claimed only if the location you are placing the unit in is a rectangular/square room. Do a search on Google on reviews on this unit to find out for yourself its strengths and shortcomings before making an informed decision. Also, one will have to seriously tweak the settings to achieve decent sound and if you are a discerning listener, such units will still lose out to a true surround sound system with physical rear speaker units. These units are good for those who wish to have a sleek/one-piece unit without additional wiring at the expense of sound quality.
  24. Actually saw quite a number at Ikea Tampines near the check out counters. You can also try Natural Living under the Star Furniture Group. Think I have seen something like that before at their showrooms.
  25. Hi there! I recommend you doing some research on the local HT forum at: Xtremeplace My short take on your issue is that your Bravia X LCD TV should have enough ports to connect your Wii, PS2 and DVD player, unless you are only using the AV composite outputs (yellow for video, red and white for audio; worst quality). You should connecct your Wii via component and your DVD player via HDMI. Not sure what kind of outputs are used by the PS2. If you are serious in looking for a good HT system, then visit KEC Sound System at The Adelphi and ask the helpful people there to recommend some systems for your audition. I would avoid the systems sold at Best, Courts, HN etc. as they do not sound as good but they are cheap, small and inconspicuous. You definitely need a HT receiver if you are planning on enjoying full surround sound for movies/games and the HT receiver can also act as a video switcher (ie. only one cable from the receiver outputs to your Bravia, all other video and audio cables inputs to the receiver).
