  1. $669 @ Gain City AMK. My brother-in-law suggested me not to go for Electrolux front load cos he was using one currently and his comment was no good Electrical consumption should not be high cos it was awarded AA grade in Europe for this EF washer. The sales guy told me AA means top grade in energy saving and water consumption.
  2. It is an attractive price based on what I have paid, but it also depends on how high your standard is. To me, though I am using Supreme, $4.20psf matches their standard/quality. Not really that fantastic. Imagine they can start quoting me at $4.80psf, reduced to $4.30psf, and then yours at $4.20psf. This means their cost should be even lower in order to make profit However, $4.50psf for Pergo is what I think cheap and good, knowing that Pergo is a branded name in laminate flooring. In Mandarin, there is this term called "1 cent $$, 1 cent product" Still, the decision is yours, think wisely
  3. Hi, hope it is still not too late to give my 2 cents worth comments now Just used my EF7100 washer last weekend for the first time after I moved in. Really impressed with its water usage. It used so little water I thought I turned the water tape off accidentally and sat right in front of the washer for slightly > 1 hour to see the whole washing process My old top loading Samsung washer is like water sucker compare to this EF washer. Did not regret paying more for a front loading washer
  4. I ever read from a newspaper article about this product in the market. It claims to make ironing work very easy, just by spraying some water on the clothes, it will be wrinkles free and well-iron after several minutes. Anyone has bought and tried it? Is it really good? Can advise where to buy and cost like? TIA
  5. 1) Should not overlay on existing tiles cos they tend to warp/chip/opo up after 20 years, and this is going to affect your newly laid tiles. You can't save this else you may have to pay more in future to fix. 2) This depends, some say should rewire after 20 yrs only. If you want to be on the safe side, then rewire. If you think it is not necessary, then maybe rewire it 10 yrs later. Provided you have not sold this flat 3) I used copper in my house. My dad insisted I got to use copper. My contractor told me s/s is harder to bend at corners. So you must engage a skillful guy to do the installation work for you, else will have problem in future. 4) I don't think you can find anything < $2.40 psf now. A low-range is around $3 nowadays. High-range can easily be $6-$8. Homo tiles are either made in China or Italy. As usual, China made ones are cheaper. No particular brand to follow, it all depends on the colour and design you want. 5) Supreme and Kronotex are the 2 most commonly used brands here. Go for Pergo if you have the budget. Take note on the AC type, warranty and country made when making your choice. Supreme is made in Msia for their AC5 with life-time warrranty. Kronotex is made in Germany for their AC3 with 15 yrs warranty. For better scratch-resistant, I think Kronotex wins over Supreme.
  6. <quote>I am quote 4.20psf for their AC5 hard wood grade. (haven't filter in GST). He run a package for me as in 4.2psf for 3 rooms (147Sqf). IF exceed, it will be free. Does your 4.3 include GST already? Who your sale pax? Cheap or not? What to look out for? it seem they have a few AC5 model too.</quote> $4.30 exclude GST leh Wah, $4.20 is very attractive. Maybe I was doing 2 bedrooms only, so the sales guy refused to cut down further. But I saw him quoting a couple at $4.80 for their 5-room flat during the exhibition. What to look for will depend on what colour and design you want. All AC5 are of the same material and thickness. The sales guy told me many young couples go for African Black. I prefer something lighter and with curve lines pattern, so I chose California Oak. <quote>kind to englight why i should go for a more expensive one with only 15 years warranty? So far i only know krono and supreme...</quote> If you choose Pergo, you are going for the quality brand. Just like you choose Prada for its name From what I know, Pergo is a famous brand with long history in making laminate flooring. If the price between its Msian made product and other Msian made product are not much diff, then I think you should consider Pergo. IMHO, 15 yrs warranty and life-time warranty are not a big issue. If your laminate flooring is of good quality and well installed, and if it does not give you problem within 15 yrs, then unlikely it will give way after that. However, I read from some reviews that the after sales service for Pergo is not very good. Not sure if this is still the same now, you need to find out more if you go for Pergo. Kronotex and supreme are just the 2 commonly used companies by IDs. You have a choice to go for other brands. Don't limit yourself to these 2
  7. It is fine if you engaged Supreme directly. My house reno was done by Ho Bee too, except my 2 bedrooms laminate flooring was directly from Supreme. I signed up with Supreme during an expo exhibition, way before I found my reno contractor. $12-$14K not quite enough leh You have to look thru the T blog. I think applefreak's house was done by Ho Bee, the rest not sure
  8. Yes, agree with what lawry says. Some cheaper and some more expensive. Are your quotes all about the same cost? Try getting another quote from Ho Bee to compare.
  9. The floor is original crement screed without adding extra layer to make it level with living hall. When I bought it, I guess the ex-owner had no $$ to do any work to it, so they left it as it is. I didn't want to spend extra $$ to level it and simply put laminate flooring on top. The bedroom doors are also original ones with a big gap from the floor.
  10. Hi, I need help here. The gap between the bottom edge of my bedroom doors and the laminate flooring is 4.5cm high. Normal door stoppers I can find in the shops are all meant for a max height of 3cm only. I can't use them for my bedrooms. Anyone has seen door stoppers cater for super-high doors like mine? At the moment I am using DIY door stoppers which look ugly I tied a foam underneath to my normal door stopper, just to add some height to it
  11. Cascading one is more expensive. HDB has higher requirements for installing cascading windows cos many cases of such window piece dropped off and fell onto ground. Sliding one is easier to install but eat up space, cos one track for each glass slide. Which is better depends on individual preference. I prefer cascading one cos I can open them fully and have more sunlights coming in. But when it rains, then sliding one is better cos you can still keep your windows open but cascading one cannot. You have to close it else the screws on your windows will get rusty So you should get a refund from them
  12. Hi Juronger, do you need to drill holes on the wall to make this clock? Do you just glue those roman alphabets onto the wall? I want something that will not cause permanent damage to the wall in case I change my mind and want to make use of the wall for something else, scare to go thru the hassle of repainting and filling up the holes later Thanks.
  13. I used Movers_101 when I moved house last weekend, $180 to move within TPY. The guys were very careful when handling my stuff, no scratches Would recommend them to others.
  14. First to spam Welcome to renotalk Wah, your living hall is sooo huge Looks like a major reno work to your house leh
  15. Not living in blk 79 ok? I am staying in Lor 1 and my reno cum carpentary work is done by Ho Bee. Just moved in last weekend. PM me if you wish to see my flat.
  16. I got Ho Bee to do the reno for my flat. As for my kitchen cabinet, I was quoted $95 per foot run. They are using solid plywood with ABS trimmings. You could give they a call to see if their carpenter Ah Keong can take your job.
  17. For anything that involves carpentry work, yes, his carpenter Ah Keong will hand draw 3D diagrams for you. His drawing skill is excellent, as good as Autocad For those not involving carpentry work, I have not been given any drawings. This is going to be the dangerous part, cos what you expect might not turn out to be what you want when finished. So if you are very particular abt every tiny things, then be specific when telling him what you want. Else Patrick will make the decision on your behalf. I still cannot forget he gave me a very or-biang look aluminium glass door handles Anything < $1 is considered cheap, reasonable? But cannot be too many $1 items lah, else they will become $1000 liao. One example is, I asked him to hang my bathroom mirror set and a picture in the living hall, he gave me free screws First payment is about 20% of your quote, 2nd one will be around 50%, last payment will be the remaining 30% liao. For my case, yes, that is the payment progress. But might not apply to everyone cos if he senses that you are those who might run away without paying, he might ask you to pay all in one shot
  18. Upon confirmation, he will start work immediately. He did not ask for a deposit from me. First payment will be say a week or 2 later. 2nd payment will be sometime towards the end of the reno work. He hasn't asked me for the last cheque yet, so not sure if it will be after the handover. Freebies? Yes, provided it is cheap A lot of discounts? No lah, how to make $$ if he gives you a lot of discounts. If he can give you discounts, that means he has to mark up his quote till very high, then pretend a bit by giving you discounts, just to make you happy lah His quote is pretty reasonable though not the cheapest, no hidden cost in his quote.
  19. Hi mates, looks like quite a few of you on the ship leh If you are looking for an ID, can try GPlan, gathered that their feedback is not bad. But if you are looking for a contractor, Ho Bee is good. The difference between ID and contractor is, ID will give you ideas and design suggestions, of course 3D pics too. Their charges will be higher as well The main killer for a reno is carpentry work, be it your kitchen cabinet or wardrobe. Enjoy your reno
  20. Your encounter is very scary, I think your house is not clean. I have never encountered such thing, but you can try this place, found the info from one of the article in this forum. Cost is around $200. Tai Yeong Kon Temple 85A Silat Rd (Jalan Bukit Merah) S'pore 168857 Tel: 62710093 Pls feedback if the monk can help you. Good for others to know too.
  21. Since you were in balestier road for Hafary, didn't you drop by Hup Kiong & Lian Sen Huat? They are all on the same row of shophouses. I think Nam Huat's outlet is just a bit further down the road.
  22. Not bochap lah, just very busy with many current customers. I think their load has started to reach the peak again, so response time might be delayed. I don't think it is due to the minor work in your place. Patrick and Ah Keong are very nice guys, if they are too busy to take your job, they will tell you so. You just need to take the initiative to ring Ah Keong and remind him, cos he might have several jobs on hand to handle. He speaks Mandarin and Cantonese very well, whilst his English is very weak
  23. Wah, nowadays clipsal has very nice design switches leh, looks like Legrand brand. Hmm... didn't know that, but I wonder what the price is like. Anyone used these new design switches? How is the price like compare to Legrand's rocker switches?
