last time when i enquire abt this stupid MIO TV thing, i realised that it runs on broadband. immediately i knew tat it will definately have problmes coz internet transmission is never stable. Running on wireless will make it even worse. Techie ppl in the industry will know that wireless transmission can never be trusted. So i stick to SCV cable.

due to yr tight budget, u can either: do homo tiles-600 x 600 size. do laminated flooring - cheaper option to homo flooring dun worry abt scratches on laminated flooring. it wont happen. But if u want fuss free flooring, go for homo tiles. Water is very bad on laminated flooring. you must be extra more careful on laminated flooring. homo tiles are almost maintenace free. $10k budget is possible, provided you are not a fussy owner and you are willing to go for cheaper reno. Bear in mind that contractors earn the most in carpentary work. So if you DO NOT want customised furniture or carpentary work such as customised dining table, study table, wall features, bedroom features, wardrobes, then 10k is enough for reno. basically you will only do flooring, toilets and kitchen and some re-wirings. That's it, your 10k budget is spent already. kitchen cabinet will already cost you $2.5k-$3k (cheap cheap standard materials). all your furnitures and wardrobes, you will have to buy direct from shops.

learn lessons in life. one thing in life to learn is everything is negotiable. there is no such thing as "fixed price", "market price", "market practice", "standard practice", "contract terms"....... never make full payment until you see the goods. even if you go to CASE for disputes, i think they will also ask you why you make full payment in the first place. even for IDs or contractors who ask for 10% or 20% upon sign contract. Balls to them. i dun see any work done or raw materials supply, i won't pay anything, not even 10%. i dun pay, they lose one customer. i can always find another person to do my work. Their lose is greater than mine. so customer always got the upper hand. make use of it.

dun worry abt home2be.... they are part of OM company. but i dun understand why u make full payment in first place???? it seems quite alot of ppl in this forum make full payments. why???? is it the shop give you 10%-20% off when you make full payment????

go to Mega Discount Store, at either United Sq or Katong Mall their prices are good. if you going to United Sq, look for Joe. he's good. and they are specially good if you buy few items together.

NEVER ever make full payment for anything..... its ok... learn from a lesson and not to do it again next time.... no matter how much you love the shop stuff, never make full payment. as a customer, u just have to be very firm with shops. just walk away from the shop.

IDs like you are plentiful in the market, all talk like gangster and ah bengs. keep chasing for $$ and never complete the work properly. what's the difference between you and loan sharks?

hi, my own experience in platform is that they nailed to the floor. a stupid thing to do by contractor of the ex-owner, but he did it that way. i think last time, in old days, that's how they do things. Same as those old toilet bowls, where contractor will screw the WC onto the toilet floor. But this method is no good because it causes water leakages from your toilet to the below neighbor. Nowadays, contractors just let the WC rest on the floor. No more screwing into the floor. if the contractor still put screws into toilet floor, he's still living in old days, and the flat owner will have problems next time when the below neighbor complains abt water leakage...... So i'm pretty sure your old platform will have nails or screws on the floor. another tip is that if yr contractor is charging you $1.3k for your bedroom floor, you might as well do homo tiles. $1.3k for parquet is not cheap. Do tiles for your bedroom and your balcony, and bargain for cheaper price from the contractor, since its the same job with the same workers. You do parquet for bedroom and tiles for balcony, your contractor charge you for seperate jobs. Parquet work, he definitley out-source to the parquet company. Another tip is bargain for higher price tiles. he give $3.5 tiles, is cheapo tiles, i must say. ask for $4 to $4.50 tiles. But the trick is make him confirm the actual quote for laying tiles first. But you come in with this $4 to $4.50 tiles, and pressure him to let you have it. Labor cost for laying tiles is same amt as of the price of tiles. i guess this is market practice. So if your tiles supply cost you total $400. Contractor willl add in another $400 for the labor to lay them.

get yr ID to change the doors FOC lah..... choose those nice Veener doors with designs.... one door will cost yr ID about $200 each... just squeeze him coz he spoil your doors. look at: http://www.doorsplus.com.sg/Product%20Page...eer%20Doors.htm just tell yr stupid ID "Veneer" doors. he will know. and DUN take a "NO" from him. since he spoil yr door, take advantage of it and change FOC.

dun waste money on wall features. wall features will go out of fashion. then what are you going to do? tear it down? i not pouring water on those who already wall features. but its a reality. what if yr TV spoilt? then you got to dismount and put on new tv. if your wall feature design go out of fashion in few years time, then are you going to tear it down? just buy a nice tv console, which you can change it whenever you want.
