  1. Can someone please advise me about a couple of things regarding combination of rewiring and renovation works. 1. Does it matter in what order you do it - rewiring first and renovation after; or renovation first and rewiring later? How is it done normally, rewiring first or reno first? 2. If I rewire first and after that reno contractor would need to smooth the walls (including walls where wires and cables are mounted and concealed) will cables be in the way and he might need to remove them from the wall? My guess is that wiring on the wall is not gonna be in the way during walls smoothing, because smoothing under concealed cables is not needed. But I'm not sure. Basically the problem is that current wiring in the house is 30+ years old and it's already spoiled/not usable for the most part, and we have to stay in that house for at least 1 or 2 more months before we can proceed with reno because we have to filter through things first, throw out tons of trash, furniture, clean up, etc. etc. But we need to be able to use electric appliances so we was thinking of rewiring that house first and then 1 month later once everything is prepared we do renovation. Just not sure would doing it in this order cause any issues or is it ok and rewiring is usually done before reno anyway. Thanks.
  2. hi all, water has been seeping into my walls whenever there's heavy rain. I've contacted both town council and hdb on this matter many times. for years, none of them have been able to solve this issue or identify where the water is seeping in from... my last resort now is to appeal to all out there to give me contacts of good experienced grouting experts who can help "catch" and seal up the water cracks in my walls. thank u u in advance
  3. Dear all, I'd greatly appreciate some advice.. I'm a new BTO homeowner and currently in midst of renovation. However, my contractor pointed out that this is a problem with the already painted walls. For info - my BTO comes painted with flooring. Technical specs for internal walls is skim-coated / plastered and painted white. So my contractor painted 1 portion of the unit, and noticed that the paint was peeling. He highlighted that he is unable to continue to paint because sealant wasn't applied UNDER the top white coat. To do a good and proper job, the top white coat has to be sanded off, plastered to make the surface even, apply sealant, then paint. He had however advised to find out from HDB if the technical specs was as-is, or did they leave out the sealant coat. I did so and the HDB officer confirmed that there is no sealant. It was as per specs- plastered walls, and emulsion paint. Now here are my qns: - is this normal wall painting specs for HDB projects? - shouldn't sealant be applied before any form of paint goes on? - is it Ok to put sealant over current HDB-ready emulsion paint? Will it peel again? Any issues if i did so? Help! Advise, anyone? My renos out on hold until this painting is resolved.

  5. Hi guys i need help about my walls. 5 years ago i painted my room with two tones, red and orange. Red using Nippon Vinly Silk and orange using Dulux Pentalite. The walls were painted without using any primer. I painted it over a flat finish white wall. Before i started painting the walls i wipe down the walls with 1 part bleach and 5 parts water. Then two weeks later after painting white spots and patches started to appear on colours. i gave a wipe with bleach and water and it disappeared but return eventually. It really pissed me off. Every 6 months for the pass five year i have to wipe them off. The spots the decreases every time i gave it a wipe though. Now after 5 years i'm planning to paint my walls again to a dark grey tone but this time i don't want to deal with this white spot reappearing. Could anyone tell me if this is mould, mildew, fungus or alkaline. What can i do to prevent this spots reappearing again. this time I'm gonna sand my walls down and apply primer. Need a recommendation of what primer and solution base wall cleaner to use to prevent this spots from reappearing. I could really appreciated the help from you guys before i start painting. Here is a clear photo on how bad these white spots can be. The left side recently wipe off and the right didn't bothered to wipe for years because the wardrobe was in my way.
