Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

I popped by the Changi branch last week and spoke to an ID (Carmen) about renovating my flat. First impression is not bad. She is able to give some suggestions on what could be done based on the theme we like.

We're still awaiting her quotation and 3d drawings and see what she propose.

Of course, we are also obtaining quotations from a few other IDs.

i used to have high expectations on this firm(not cheap).

but...from high expectation to low then to no...

when I asked ID question, for eg when will plumber come?

is like asking him a millionaire dollar question?

wonder what is the purpose for dragging?

i thought faster do, i pay u faster.

then ID can concentrate on other projects.

I just dun understand him.

ID is not old man someone, young energetic man.

not those type who are forgetful but drag things a lot.

zzz

maybe because his sub cons are too busy

it just doesnt justify service when Id is unreachable most of the time.

though he called back the next day, by then, u already sian 1/2...

maybe thats their idea! to make u half sian, so u will call him less and hopefully they will get to retify less things !

doing 1 out of 3 things is to indirectly tell u :

"don't think our work very simple, it's very time consuming one okay." :P

hopefully i dun get tis kind of contractor also ... btw, can i knw which one u engage? (can pm me? tia!)

i wonder is it my ID, or common practice, when I tell him 3 things, he will only complete 1 thing at a time.

dont they find it a hassle to come again and again?

y cant just do a few things together at one time?

save the owner time and the workers' time.

Agreed with you TENSION Z.

Heng or Suay!

And I can strongly say that not all id/contractors are 100% error free.

There bound to be hiicups here and there.

yeah

heng suay case. my tiler team was not too bad, but the carpentry workmanship not good, however they agree to change the really no good ones.

it is the ID that I am angry with.

calling his phone is like calling the radio line.

highly not recommended. (my company not chew).

they are not call hidden cost

its you want better materials so have to pay for it

else how they quote u all cheap cheap to meet your budget

just to let all owners know this info

all tilers now in sg are malaysian and china ppl

1 group of tilers will serve a few companies in sg

same for carpentry wise

so basically you will get almost same standard of workmanship if u happen to choose the companies that are using the same carpenter company.

But sometime depends on luck, why?

Because the carpentry company will have 1 boss, few managers to go around take measurement speak to the ids incharge, then the workload will be randomly handed down to their diff team of workers at factory.

Diff team of workers got diff workmanship, skill and attitude

it's a serious mistake which i prefer not to disclose.

sorry about that 8|

sorry for the late reply, been quite busy recently.

the workmanship that chew partly done for me 1 word to describe sxxx.

in the end the 2nd contractor that i engaged have to hack part of it and redo for me :curse:

they do have some hidden cost if you choose better type of laminate or nicer tiles :(

hope yours is much better then mine as mine is a completely nightmare :furious:

Hi Snow,

How is the workmanship and design which Chew did for you?

I'm quite worried now as we have just signed a contract with Chew . It was an impulsive move as we were both pretty impressed with the idea our designer had on solving some odd angles of our home during the sales pitch.

However, i'm feeling apprehensive now. The contract details are very vague ..eg a one liner " Supply and install 14 feet laminated kitchen cabinet with solid top surface " 'supply and install full height 8 feet wardrobe " etc. Morever, i find our designer is very $$ oriented. Wanted the balance of the 10% downpayment before even coming up with a drawing. Other IDs we went to were at least willing to come up with a sketch drawing during the quotation phase.

Does Chew also have the tendency of adding a lot of hidden costs on top ?

TIA!
