Window Films (privacy Or Solar)

Hi pple..

I got a 4 room flat planning to have films instead of curtains for the rooms.

Can solar do what a privacy film do?

where and who to look for a trustworthy and good price contractor to do it?

which brands to chose from?

PS. Anyone staying at Coris estate? How much did u pay for the films?

i will be doing it for the living room, my child room and master bedroom.

Windows are normally open all the while.. cos my wife is a housewife.

Just playing devil's advocate here. Are you sure you want to do this? By using tinted window film, your rooms will be very dark when your windows are closed. There may be times when you want the breeze coming through, but do not want the glare. And this is when you need curtains or blinds.

hmm for solar film to work, the window must be CLOSED

if you open the window then no point getting solar film

i had solar film installed coz my room is getting the direct evening sun

works like a miracle

hmm so far have not come across privacy film that works well as solar films

coz the better solar films are primarily made with vehicles in mind, so the privacy part is a non-issue

do bear in mind that it's against the hdb bylaws to install reflective films on your window

i don't think privacy film could function like solar film do. solar film basically cut out the UV and reject the solar energy, meaning less heat, less damage to furniture. another thing to consider when choosing solar film is the visible light transmission or the amount of light let through. Expensive brand like huper optik and v-kool claim to have UV/solar energy rejection rate of close to 99% while letting in light. It's like those use for car (not the black out type).

so if what you need is to cut down heat and uv, thn get solar film. if privacy is what you need, i guess those tinted non see thru privacy film is more suitable. there this reflective solar film which look like mirror externally but if the your space is brighter thn outside (like whn you on the light at night), ppl can still see thru. can somebody confirm it's against the hdb bylaws? applefreak any reference to it coz i may be using it

i have contacted both brands mentioned above, they are charging ard $10-$11 psf. installation is free if above 100 sqft. i didn't go for them and opted sunshield instead. it's much lower in cost but i am not sure whether it's as good as claimed. has anyone use sunshield and any comment/s?

hi sunzhi, think got to go through the hdb rules again coz i can't really remember where exactly i saw that

but i can vouch for the heat rejection quality of huper optik

was home one evening around 5plus and went into my room

was quite cool so i thought open the window to let more wind in

when i touch the glass, i quickly pulled my hand back coz the glass is very hot

yet the room feels like there's no sun at all

Huh is there a HDB rule for applying films to our windows??? Don't want to let people see my flat inside also cannot?

can apply film, but cannot be those reflective ones as it causes irritation to others when the sun shines on it

usually pple go for frosted-glass effect for windows if they want privacy as most of those privacy films tend to shrink after a few years

the removal and reapply process can be rather tedious

so far pple i know who has privacy films all DIYed as there are not much contractors who does this
