Soak Tiles Before Laying

Recommended Posts

my dad say need to soak tiles in water for 1 night before laying, but my contractor only splash a lot of water on the back of the tiles and left overnight.

they kept quarreling over this, and everybody is not happy..

so do any of your contractors actually take a big big big large pail and soak tiles in it overnight?

think the soaking only applies to ceramic tiles

my previous home was using ceramic tiles

the tiles went pop pop pop after 20 over years :(

were the tiles at ur previous home soaked in water?

btw, i've checked the tiles, and found edges to sound hollow. contractor says cannot fill 100% cement when laying, so edges normally wld be hollow?

well i called hdb and they came down and check

they said that the tiles were too dry that's why popped

so we came to the conclusion that the tiles were not soaked long enough before laying :bleah:

Soaking is done in all HDB works and for ceramic tiles. Have not seen homogenous or other tiles being soak. Very unlikely for tilers to do so for resale units.

for popping to last 20 yrs very good liao.. time for a change

NOWADAYS tiles can lasting for long time..estimation like homo tiles can last for 5-10 years and depends as well on the workmanship as well. But the most important things is how many the length did the tiler left for the expansion of tiles >>>..
