3k Plus To 4k For Hacking, Is This The Norm Now?!

Recommended Posts

Dear all experts

I got quotes from 3 reno firms for the following hacking work (HDB resale EA):

Remove living room carpet

hack off foyer, living, dining, passage way and 3 bedrooms ceramic skirting (note: skirting, not floor tiles)

discard existing sliding door frame

demolish kitchen wall

hack off bathroom floor and wall tiles

discard kitchen carbinet and clear off site

discard ktichen and toilets sanitary fitting

supply sand and haulage material to door step

clear deris off site

acid wash

firm 1 quote: $4050

firm 2 quote: $3490

firm 3 quote: $4800 (!!!)

4 years back, when my MIL did her house, she hacked kitchen, toilet, living room floor tiles and partial wall tiles, for only $2290 (by firm 2). Her's an old condo with ard the same area size as ours.

So, what has happened?? Hacking alone why so ex???

anyone has a cheaper hacking firm to recommend???

demolish kitchen wall & floor tiles

hack off 2 x bathroom floor and wall tiles

demolish/discard kitchen cabinet and clear off site

discard 2 x bathroom sanitary fitting

2 years ago, the above about 2.2k, my is a EM.

Below foc:

supply sand and haulage material to door step

clear debris off site

acid wash

You might want to check with your ID/contractor how much they charge for hacking fee? My time was 1.5/psf including clearing debris.

I started my reno last month. Unit area is 135sqm.

Overhaul include existing false ceiling & cornice. Total $3700 (Include clear debris).

hi blue8179

tks for sharing!

but read in your t-blog that you are not so satisfied with your main contractor's service.

hm......also scare to engage cheapish contractor but create more headache with service/work...

hi chronograph

btw, can you share how much is the total reno cost for your em?

Feel that contractors seem to charge more when they see it's an executive hdb. :P

Can the HDB owner hack the wall yourself?

Not true, executive hdb units are bigger in floor area. Nowadays HDB built smaller unit, an old 5 rm is much bigger than new 5 rm, logically u pay more reno for older 5 rm.

Some big items like overhaul 2 toilets, overhaul washroom, over haul kitchen, awning, paint whole house, casement windows, windows grills, wiring, polish marble, varnish parquet and carpentry amount to 38k.

Its hacking + haulage + debris fees all added together. Now levy goes up...so is the cost... :yamseng:

Need your advice... For old hdb flats the 2 steps outside the door, would you Contractor charge you extra for putting tiles on the walls beside the steps?
