I found some droplets of yellow liquid. Today, I'm on off and my contractor popped by in the morning, and i highlighted it to him. He said, based on what it looks, maybe the upper level unit might have some water leaking issue.

I took pics of it, and emailed the HDB technical officer IC for my area.

my alternative theory is that, as i didn't notice the water marks and moisture previously... I wonder if it might be due to the wet cement in the MBR bathroom which is drying out over the past 2 days...

the yellow spots - could it be coz by the worker, who might be smoking, while cementing the toilet walls?

anyway, i'll wait for HDB's reply.

anyway, there's small dark and yellow-ish patches on the ceiling of my staircase area too.

The contractor said, it might be dried out stain, which might be caused by seepage from the upper unit when they did their renovation some time back.

Or it might be due to the wall plastering drying out...

anyway, he said, it should be ok after wall plastering and applying of sealant.

anyway, i've emailed HDB abt it, and will wait for their reply.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ok I just met up with the HDB officer, he said that the flaky ceiling does not constitute leakage. He only looks for obvious dripping water or brown/yellow stains. Those are the best tell tale signs coz HDB has to convince the upper floor household that it is a leak due to them as well.

So now... just have to tell painter to scrape off, apply sealant and repaint the ceiling.

But it shouldn't have, after your WC are installed, i guess.

as for the smell from the drainage pipe... i think i read from some t-blogs, that maybe during the renovation, the workers might have thrown some big pieces of cloth/rag, rubbish, etc in to the drainage pipes... which might have blocked the drainage pipes... and will result in flooding issue and also the smell thing.

hmmm... i thought usually the drainage pipe, will have the S or P-trap, which has water which will block out the foul smell...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yah for you it should be smelly now <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

The workers sometimes no WC in your house.. may just settle there in the drainage too!

Just that i guess white color need regular maintenance to rubb away the dust which I think is manageable. Your ceiling fan after installation still have quite a distance from the L-box so will not have shadow issue. not bad~<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="!!" border="0" alt="excl.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Thanks! Think white is ok so long as easy to clean. My fan at home now is black, I do tend to ignore the dust... lol

<a href="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31759&view=findpost&p=600289" target="_blank">http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...st&p=600289</a>

the trap dirt part in the story probably doesn't apply to you, but light colour = dirt easy to see is certainly true. if you are the type that cannot tahan the sight of dirt on floor, you will find yourself cleaning any spots you see once they appear.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

the rest of the house is not so bad, but kitchen is easier to get dirty cos the floor can get wet (e.g. by drops of water accidentally splashed from tap) and you walk around when cooking... dirts can appear when feet step over the water~

the pros of light-colour floor is... once you see dirt, you tend to clean immediately, so the dirt won't accumulate... and this helps to cultivate good house-keeping habit hahahahaha <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yeah! Should be ok la, only scared that it's too rough and easy to accumulate dirt lo.

<!--quoteo(post=628245:date=Apr 11 2011, 02:04 PM:name=marshmallow)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (marshmallow @ Apr 11 2011, 02:04 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=628245"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->i think HDB will come to check if it's due to your upstairs neighbour water-proofing or other reason...

i also start to have foul smell in toilets recently... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

read from somewhere in renotalk that to prevent foul smell, the connector between WC and sewege drain hole should be sealed tight with silicone (though most plumbers don't do this). but i am not fully convinced becos:

all waste pipes from (sink, WC) are all connected to the same main sewege pipe evantually. so the smell from sewege pipe can still escape through other drain holes or through the sink... and this is precisely what is happening to me now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bangwall.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bangwall:" border="0" alt="bangwall.gif" />

but the smell doesn't come all the time... i suspect it's when upstairs/downstairs neighbours are using the toilet... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":unsure:" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yup HDB check already, say go ahead there's no leak!

Think it really depends on where the smell is coming from. I'm just worried that they can't do anything about it then I have to live with the pungent smell!? Not right leh...

Hi,

I really like your reno. It looks bright and spacious.

Regarding the smell from the sewage, I don't know if this will help. below every floor trap, there should be a U-pipe, this U-pipe is meant to hold a pocket of water which acts as a barrier to prevent small and pest from coming up from the sewage into the bathroom. if you do not use the bathroom often, this pocket of water will evaporate and thus leaving no barrier allowing smell to drift into the bathroom. Try pouring a good bucket of water into the drainage pipe/floor trap to fill the U-pipe with water. Hope this helps.

Check "trap (plumbing)" under wikipedia to get a better idea. Good luck.

Yes considered for very long and decided to have the wardrobe span the entire length of the room. Over 4m in length! Saw the sliding mirror in some other showrooms so just told our carpenter and he settled it quickly. :)

Heyo! Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah spoke to the plumber earlier, he said the tilers made a mistake somewhere. I can see the water in the hole but somewhere it is still connected to the sewage. Either redo the toilet (mayhem) or seal up that drainage hole and use the one in shower area instead.

Long time no post, think my reno is one of the longest running yet. lol

Just some updated pics:

Kitchen

With washing machine on the right

yes.. thats a "slide to unlock" magnet!

kitchen_cabinets.jpg

TV mounted!

Met several hiccups. Initially TV could not mount, added extra board behind.

No tv console yet.. can't decide.. bleh. Looking a white tv console, rounded edges, with covered glass in middle and drawers or swing doors at the sides. Anyone happen to chance upon one?

tv_wall.jpg

Room Doors

Stairs railing now painted brown. Previous owner had it painted so we can't sand it.

room_doors.jpg

Ur kitchen is very spacious and looks like it able to hold 2-3 ppl working in there..feel cosy too!

As for the console, why not try to custom made them? sometimes custom made is much more cheaper and they follow what we want :)

I love all ur doors colours..it feel so vibrant! and yes abt the painted railing, me too having a prob with not able to sand it away.. :furious:

hehe thanks!

I wanted to make sure that my tv console has no sharp edges coz I'm really clumsy and tend to walk into these things. My carpenter said it is better to find the ready made ones if I want a curved edge coz he's not good at doing them. He did quote me for a tv console that I described to him, so I'm still looking around for nice ones lor.

Yeah once wood is painted on, cannot sand it already. I wanted it to have a natural wood finish but they attempted and got a very ugly result!

I'm a geek, welcome to the Facebook room

246772_10150201416011441_618276440_7325806_5739159_n.jpg

Wanted to buy sofa from IKEA, but went there 3 times, every time no stock. Need to call on the day itself to confirm before going down, they don't allow ordering if there is no stock. doh.

But I've already settled full payment with my contractor. All problems we told him were resolved, kinda!

The smelly toilet issue was due to a mistake by the tiler. Somehow one of the drainage holes was connected to the sewage pipe, and all the heavenly smell came in whenever my neighbors did their business. Eventually, the tiler came and tiled up the drainage hole. Luckily it was a rather dry area and I still have my shower drainage.

This weekend will be installing my TV console (from my carpenter, simple white design) and storeroom rack 125cm x 125cm L shape.

Hi

Actual reno bill is 39k. Carpentry separate, about 10k for kitchen, wardrobe, toilet cabinet, tv console.

Actually most mansionettes are that old. Many things to consider, like kids, old folks, pregnant wives, etc.

Does the Reno include all hacking and new flooring? If yes, can u recommend me yr conrtactor? Mine's so so old, all has to go.

Also does yr unit have issues with putting 2 aircon compressors?

Hi

Yes, the 39k includes all hacking, homogeneous floor tiles, replacement of all doors and windows, painting, etc. Mine is 26 years old, everything went also.

But remember that it does not include purchase of lights, sanitary fittings, sink, hood, hob, etc.

I only have 1 compressor, but don't think there's any issue if I wanted 2 compressors, 1 along corridor level 2, another 1 at the balcony.

Will send u PM in a while
