What Type Of Led Lights Is Suitable?

Recommended Posts

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

hihi, last weekend I was at lightings.com.sg balestier branch.

The sales lady strongly recommend me to take up Phiips brand LED (4 Watts) instead of the in-house brand (3 Watts) LED bulb. I only need 4 of them to shine on the wall for decorative purposes. The reasoning was that the in-house brand LED blow easily as they are made from China. She strongly recoomend me to take the philips brand as it is more reputable and reliable. Of course Philips brand LED bulb costs more than the in-house brand.

Is what she says really the truth ? Can someone enlighten me? =)

Many LED bulbs come with multiple emitters in it. Note that you have to decide when to change the bulb as the emitters will die one by one. Sometimes abit waste to change whole bulb when only a few emitters are gone, just not as bright.

Thanks. She told me that there is no issue for 3W, but not for 7/10W LEDs. The other sales person told me it can be used w/o any modification. I am thinking of using Halogens, then upgrading to LEDs.

Oh, I went down to sim lim tower & noticed that most of the bulbs for LED comes with multiple mini bulbs in them. I reckon that those r the multiple emitters that u r referring to...

But when would those emitters "die" on us? E.g. 5 years? 6 years? Or as short as say, 2 years? 1 year?

Hi waikwok & nonick,

Sometimes, I really had no idea who to listen to when I visit the retail showrooms. Every sales person would provide a different set of advice and I find myself feeling boggled at the end of the day.

I also had the sneaky suspicion that the sales persons may not be selling based on what's ideal for the customer but for a fatter profit margin.

I'll be visiting the lightings.com.sg myself... maybe later on when I have the time to drop by balestier :P

Hi folks,

If you need any LED guide or you kin on buying it, you may contact Junior Leong , his hp is 93883759.

Hi folks,

I'm feeling terribly lost... <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Heard of LED lights before but have never had any at home; only saw them being used in showrooms (LED strips) or signages.

I need to install LED lights at 2 distinctive locations on the ceiling of my HDB flat, turned them on 24 by 7. However, I had only gone down to a lighting shop near Lucky Khoon @ Joo Chiat to take a look.

A 3-watt LED spot-light (for ceiling) which we felt that were suitable in lighting up those 2 spots, was quoted as $298 each. That was really steep!

The staff there claimed that their product was made in Taiwan. But warranty was only 1 year.

When we tried to obtain the best price from the staff, she said that she risk losing her job if she asked her boss & we decided not to go ahead with the purchase after the discount was given. So we thanked her & walked out of the shop.

Could anybody be as kind to enlighten me on what's really recommended for our requirements? Are all LED ceiling lights that consume relatively lower watts so expensive?

Hi guys,

I have finally bought my LED E27 holder type of LED bulb. From Julian at Citilights, Jalan Besar.

He had been very helpful & has offered us valuable advice on what is suitable when we shared with him on our needs. And didn't want us to spend the extra $.

We finally settled on Optied's 2-watt "ping-pong" bulb at $38. With 3 years warranty on bulb failure. So since there is such a long span of warranty, then it goes to show that the quality is good & the possibility of failure is very low.

When I have the time, I would upload photos of the bulb & how it looked like on my E27 holder. But for those of u who have designer homes, u'll see our fixtures as wierd & awful :P

OptiLED is made in China but their quality for LED lights should be quite ok... that is why they dare to give long warranty.

My company had used their LED lights for commercial projects before...

Although much technology improvement is made for LED, the LED lights still have problems in "glare" so if you are not using it to replace general lightings, it is still fine.

Hi heynsl,

I'm sorry but I do not understand what u meant by the "glare". Would u mind explaining? thanks.

But I did notice that LED isn't as bright as the normal lighting. So no glaring issues if this is what u meant.

Don't go for brands anymore. Given Phillips & Osram they are all now made in China and the price for their products remains the same

. Try other brands as they are not expensive and quality can be as good as Phillips & Osram.

LED are brighter than normal lighting. Different supplier have different work qualities on their products. LED depreciate every year. Their Lumens drops thus making it look less bright. Nonetheless, LED lifespans usually hits 5years. Cost wise; If the LED last you throughout for 5 Years u can total how much it has saved for you. =)

Hope my details helped.

Hi folks,

After buying the OptiLED "ping pong" bulb" & installing it recently, I've finally created a new thread on my review for LED lights from CITILIGHTS (@ Jalan Besar).

http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41131&st=0&p=642911&fromsearch=1entry642911

I have just placed another order of the "ping pong" bulb with Julian & would be uploading more photographs of some of the other items which we are interested in from CITILIGHTS.
