Building a second loft in a SOHO condo unit

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking of purchasing a new SOHO 1 bedroom unit with an existing loft platform built in the living room. But since the master bedroom is also very spacious and also have 4.2m ceiling height, is it allowed to build a second loft unit in there?

From the research that I have done, it seems from URA communication on approval of Loft construction - anything below 5m square and a single loft in a unit does not require permission. But does that mean that we cannot apply for a second loft construction anymore?

Because, I recall the article from the 2014 case with regards to the loft dispute between a couple and the developer (which the couple won), where they actual built 2 loft platforms within their penthouse apartment.

Can anyone point me to a right direction on how to check on the legal requirement for such project ? or if there is any contractor that have existing experience with regards to such matter?

Normally developers would have maxed out the allowed GFA when designing the development.

if you want to build another loft bigger than 5sqm, you need URA approval. if you not sure, best is check with URA for confirmation. if allowed, you may need a PE to design the loft structure as well.
