Its like Magic!

When I came to Singapore 12 yrs back, I never dreamt I can afford an abode in this beautiful city. And here I am…. I have an awesome family and a magically designed house, Thank you Louis!

It all started in March 2018 when we made an abrupt decision of buying a condominium which believe me was an easy decision than lot of decisions which followed in next few months. After the initial payment clock started to tick down and raced towards the day we enter the house. The biggest challenge was the hard date of move into the house - 31st Aug. Tricky part was the day we can start the renovation which was only after 1st Aug. Everyone knew it would be a maddening race to renovate the whole house in such a short duration where we cannot work on weekends and public holidays! We needed a magician who can understand what we want and turn the house into a masterpiece within few days - hence I call it a magic!

After few designers we were quite convinced that we cannot renovate the house the way we want because of lack of time and our limited budget. Then we met Louis and there was no looking back/second thought - The journey begins!

We had never worked with an interior designer before so didn’t know what to expect. Louis, with great patience explained us our part in this journey and we were quite clear how to go about it. He is always punctual whenever we planned to meet in person, be it our home or his office. He made us think on details and helped us visualise how end picture would look like. Lot of google image references, real life examples and what not! Kudos to his patience! A few days later we saw 3D image of our future home. Loved it and couldn’t wait for work to start!

After months of planning, zeroing in on tiles, furniture, colors, laminates, curtains, lightings etc etc etc….. The day comes when we can start work! 1st Aug!

But, wait a minute. Why there is no electricity in the flat? Then I realised I made Louis life very tough because I forgot to apply for public utilities services. I rushed to SP Group’s office and came to know nothing can be done before 6th Aug. Louis had planned something each day till 31st Aug, he had to do everything again with 20% less time this time. Sigh :-(

But then we had faith in Louis and he didn’t let us down… He completed the renovation with superb quality and we moved into the house on 30th Aug - Yes, a day earlier!

Thanks a lot Louis for all the help you did. Money is secondary, passion and dedication comes first… Continue to create such magic, you are a star and we are sure you will make many more families smile in your career!

"It was a pleasure to have Louis from First Dot Design as my ID. He has a very good design sense and I am very pleased with the eventual outcome which is both aesthetically pleasing and yet practical. He also helped me a lot with the furniture selection to make sure that they blend in well with the design.

Greatly appreciate that, especially when I did most of my furniture shopping over the weekends and he was always responsive to my messages when I saw a nice piece of furniture and needed his advice. I was also very particular about the altar design, wanting to make it more contemporary and not the typical full height altar shelf. He was open to all my suggestions and patiently did a few sketches for me before we finally came to a consensus on something which I think looks great now.

Overall, it’s a good experience working with Louis and not forgetting he met the agreed timeline too. Cheers." - Robson Ng

"I chose First Dot Design as ID to my 2 bedroom unit and was very pleased with the services.

In my internet research, I noticed that First Dot Design is one ID boutique firm which comes from a reputable construction coy. This ensured that the renovation work can be well-monitored. I also noticed that the reviews are consistently good and so I took a leap of faith to engage the coy.

Unlike other ID which demanded significant deposits, this coy only requested much less upfront for interior blueprint design before signing the contract. There was no hard selling before any contract signed. I liked such professionalism.
Louis was a passionate, polite and responsive Interior Designer. He not only engaged us constantly with good advice such as color schemes but also willing to listen to my preferences.

And so the outcome never disappointed me. The carpentry was well done as I did several embedded furnitures. Louis was quick to handle any remedy of minor defects.

During the renovation, Andy and Yuting follow through the progress end to end and visited our house frequently to ensure that the renovation is in place. Everything is hassle-free and well-taken care by Andy and Yuting!

"From the moment we saw the 3D design, we knew we got the right guy. Alloysius always provided a very clear explanation of all his plans. His decisions were always made with sound reasoning, which balanced both the aesthetic and practical aspects of the outcome.

Throughout the entire process, he was patient to listen, receptive to feedback, helping to provide constructive advice, never pushy to make us overspend and ensured that we were always kept in the loop of any updates. He often went the extra mile to provide us with help we needed.

Communication has been very smooth as well; she patiently listens to what we want or need without enforcing her ideas on us (like what the other IDs we met did onto us). Being a home owner herself and knowing that it is our first time owning a place, she shares her personal experiences, offers practical suggestions and even shares good deals with us whenever she sees any. "I think First Dot Design deserve a big pat on the back. First Dot is about a year old, but the people in it have over 10 years of experience.

Prior to engaging Alloysius (main ID aka Alloy) and Darren, we've heard horror stories about IDs who go MIA, uncooperative IDs, homeowners who had to top-up their budget because the ID under-quoted, etc. Hence, we were pretty careful (prayed a lot too!) in selecting the right one who could fit our needs.

As with any renovation, hiccups are inevitable, but we soon realized that Alloy readily came with solutions to help resolve them, and put us at ease. Eventually, whenever there were any flat issues and we weren't sure if he could help, we asked him anyways.

One such issue was when the curtain guy that we engaged insisted that the curtain colour installed was pink when what we saw was orange! We did not have prior proof of the colour we selected, but Alloy stepped in to resolve it for us.

Alloy is very proactive and honest too. When we had a design suggestion that may look out of place, he would advise not to do it (when he could easily have said yes to make the extra buck). We had a budget in mind, and he made good efforts to keep within it.
All in all, moving into a new home is a major milestone in anybody's life. Having a good ID like Alloysius, certainly helped us transit smoothly into this new phase of our lives." - Eileen Tan
