Mandy & Lincoln - Renovating Our First Home
mmycheng replied to mmycheng's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Hehe, thanks! At first I thought it looked funny but it grew on me after a while...and BunBun is right...the green looks very soothing... I think my house design is ok with the younger crowd...my mom saw it and I could sense a shadow of disapproval (e.g. suspended cabinets lack base support, too much black and white furniture gets dirty easily)...but she generally withheld herself from over commenting cos we paid for it using our own money!...haha -

Thanks for the compliments! I think the design in a way reflects the characters of my hb and I... I tend to be the more serious one (I like colours like black, grey and white) whilst my hb is the more playful one (he insisted on the splashes of colour hence the yellow and green you see). -

Yup, IKEA is one of the places we are planning to look for chairs. Was wondering if anyone knows of any local shops that may be selling office chairs ar reasonable prices too. -
How come you upset about the reno progress? Rectifications on the above stuff done already? Don't worry too much. Just make sure you let your ID know of any unsatisfactory areas and it's his job to fix it properly. As for the delivery, I also encountered screw-ups with a couple of companies, not just one. I just stuck to my guns all the time and said that they had to deliver it on the day that I had arranged. So far, a little bit of pressure worked for me although I had to waste time waiting...but that was better than me making an extra trip on another day.

Haha...hb and I did exactly the same thing... it was lots of fun watching it open and close...does sound silly now that I talk about it...haha Hi bubble, I got it from *** Gallery at Balestier...I don't know the exact price cos I bought a couple of things and got a bundle price...but I think it's around the mid $200s before discount. Hb and I are going to look for chairs for the study room...our dream chair too pricey for us to buy right now so it will have to wait until much later. In the meantime, a budget-priced chair will do. Any suggestions anyone? -

TODAY HAS BEEN A LOOOOOOONG DAY....AND I AM SOOOOOOOO TIRED! I basically spent the morning doing some basic cleaning (sweeping, mopping, wiping) and then the rest was spent waiting for furniture to arrive... the latter was the one which really sapped my energy... the waiting and waiting... I advise those out there who have not gone through this process to think twice about trying to receive all your furniture in 1 day...unless you are very patient... Let me chronical my day... 1000am: Set out to NTUC and neighbourhood hardware store to buy cleaning agents. 1100am: Started cleaning...got hot and sweaty but spirits still kept high by the excitment of the coming furniture. 1130am: First piece arrived! My dining set from Furniture Club. 1145am: Continued cleaning, hb also helped... 1pm: Went for lunch...had no appetite tho...a bit tired by now... 1.45pm: 2nd item arrived. Mattress from Sealy. Meanwhile...the waiting continued...luckily I brought a book along to read. 3pm: 3rd item arrived. Washing machine from Brandt. Waited some more... 5pm: 4th item arrived. F&P fridge. 6.10pm: Bed arrived... my hb attended to them...i was stoned by then... Hunger pangs set in and so we had our very first dinner in our new home.... 7.20pm: Final item has finally come....our sofa...even my dog needed a comfy rest after all that waiting! Ok...time for me to faint now...hahaha -
You got a good deal...$888 also a very nice number hehe

Hmm...maybe my price of $90 per ft is outdated liao... got another friend doing reno now and his price was closer to $110-120...all thanks to inflation. My reno contract was signed in July this year. Also, the price depends a lot on the material you use. That same friend is paying close to 1K for a 4 ft vanity cupboard and solid surface top for his toilet sink cos he needs to use more water resistant materials. How's your ID search coming along? Me lazy...hb is not the cleaning type either so we decided getting the pros in would be best option. I engaged A-cube microsystems, they are sending in 2 cleaners for 6 hours. Will cost me $269 nett. -
White laminate for your full height cabinet will make your entrance appear bigger and give your kitchen more depth since the tiles are black.
-
Hi, can you share where you got the doggie door stopper?
-
First to spam chop!! hehe Welcome deepwhite! What sort of fengshui advice were you give? Can share?
-
That's A LOT of stuff... but I think I'm like the pot calling the kettle black... I'll prob end up like you! The thought of me packing and unpacking makes me wanna faint liao...
-
Hi luckable, can share the cost of your microwave? I'm also looking for one in either matt or glossy silver.
-
Welcome back Jessie! Mind sharing where you got your curtains from and price? Also, what type of fabrics did you use?

Hi cloudy, I kenna exactly the same problem! Sighz... my ID discovered it one day when it rained cats and dogs and found a patch of water on my newly installed floor laminates!!! GASP*** So I got my hb to contact the HDB officer immediately and he said matters outside of the flat belonged to the jurisdiction of the town council. He also said the same thing about the timing, had to wait for 2 months and we were simply appalled cos rainy season coming soon.... The next week however, we saw a gondola running along the block on the side of the wall that had cracked...they must have patched the crack cos I didn't get any leakage problem afterwards... If they are taking so long, better call your HDB officer to check again... tell them rainy season here already!!
