  1. Wah, if I take part, I sure win! Eat up all the Durians and lick fingers clean. All ang mors seem to be very frightened of and adverse towards Durian. In NZ, I bought some from the Asian supermarket and brought home to share with my Vietnamese housemate, my landlady KPKB cannot stand the smell. Say like rotten eggs or dead body.
  2. Wow, OK, it sure looks quite big from the floor plan. Haiz, I suffer from that problem for my new place too. On floor plan look big, but visit actual site, small and cramped for some reason. Actually from your floor plan, I was thinking you can make your MBR more private and free up some space by shifting the entrance. Right now your entrance opens up with the toilet in front. If you shifted it to the other side (next to the door of the other bedroom), you'll have more options to play around for WIW and also a neater arrangement for the MBR.
  3. Wah PJ, from the looks of it, you'll soon need to organise the PJ Ice Cream Party liao. Your home-made ice-cream is hot in demand!
  4. Last time at Chinatown, next to the Sri Mariaman temple at Temple Street, there's this Chinese medicine shop that sold some exotic meats e.g. crocodile etc. But now I think no more liao. In SG, I think the only time you'll get 'exotic food' these days is during Jungle Surivival Course. The next earest to SG is in JB around Pelangi side. They got those lizards, flying foxes, bats, sparrows, snakes etc.
  5. Cos' it was told by some ultra rural tribal people who had eaten human meat and shared about the taste. Not appetising for me though ...
  6. I think the norm these days is frosted sticker. Sandblast is more costly though, but I hear the effect is not bad too. Actually for some of the glass you can actually leave it clear for the spatial effect.
  7. I hear some people say human meat tastes not much different from pork....
  8. Welcome! Very nice layout with a nice long MBR and space that's ideal for a WIW and with an small ledge too. Look forward to your updates.
  9. Congrats and Welcome to RT. Your place really has a nice layout. There's quite a few people from BP here at RT. As Rondy has 'advertised', PJ's one of them.
  10. gorilla_chow, melancholic and Ivy, I think I suffer from the same dilemma as well. I always envy people who get 1 boy and 1 girl. Its like the best of both worlds. My wife always wanted a girl and was quite eagerly anticipating the 2nd one to be one, until the 'thing' showed. My parents still haven't got a grand-daughther to play with yet since my sister's 2 kids are also both boys. Now, even if we wish to have a 3rd one, also very phobia lah. Sekali another boy. Hand-me-downs is still not so bad for us, cos' my wife's got quite a few sisters who have daughters. So its quite useful since the mummies can share maternity clothes while the kids of both sexes share the hand-me-downs. I don't know about those 'traditional myths', but I recall my wife told me there's this age-old Chinese calendar that plots based on your horoscope animal and month and day of conception to determine sex of baby. Some clinics actually circulate it to would-be parents even!
  11. Some Ikea stuff end up being dangerous. I also had the experience of a collapsing Billy Bookshelf. And the roof of a new moveable wardrobe warp and sink downwards after about a week. Got some small tables which have the laminate peeling off after a few months too. I think its cos' the so-called wood is not exactly very strong as its made of more like wood chip boards rather than solid wood. But there are some stuff that've lasted quite well. There's these 2 bedside tables, which had 'Made in Italy' stated on it, that has lasted for about 5 years now, with only one of the doors slightly slanted from assembly time. I bought a 'Made in PRC' metal computer table for $35 and its still just as how we got it. My wife's rotatable mirror dresser in her old place has lasted more than 11 years now and its still OK.
  12. Not a fried bat or sparrow right? It looks like one of those exotic food I once ate years ago at JB.
  13. On Sunday, I popped by IFC to have a look-see. Was really amazed and awed at the wide array of furniture that will potentially lighten my wallet and bank account and maybe perhaps even increase my debts. Was also a good chance to bring my parents there to source out for their new bed and other furniture items as well. Alot of nice white contemporary-styled leather sofas, but really worried that it may end up 'artisitically destroyed' by my kids armed with markers, poster paint and crayons in the near future. Some of the contemporary sofas look good, but somehow when you sit on them, its not very comfy. Surpisingly, one sofa that we kinda liked and shortlisted came from a store selling country furniture. Essentially, its a sofa with a wood frame, but somehow, the design is quite contemporary and not too country-fied. I forgot my camera, so didn't manage to capture a pic, but essentially it looks like the blue-cushioned one in the picture: Do you guys think its fine to have a wooden sofa with a more contemporary-style theme? It seems quite OK, as I've seen some similar usage in books on modern/contemporary themed apartments in the UK/US/Europe. Just wanna make sure it don't clash or look funny.
  14. Heya, Neighbour. Nice monopoly clock! Hope you'll get the parition wall issue sorted ASAP.
  15. Cool man, now when I look for an LCD TV, I'll find one that has this accidental damage cover.
  16. Ahahaha .. OK. I learnt something new today. Actually, I thought for PJ's case, if she didn't say accident, it could be like a mechanical fault thing. But if they really cover 'accidents' then its good lah. I worry that you know all these companies, they will try to find ways and means to siam giving you warranty one.
  17. PJ, sorry to hear about your TV. Kids and LCD TVs are always a dangerous combo. On many occasions, I've managed to stop them from using markers, crayons and pens to doodle on my LCD screen only just in time! Yeah agree with MM, just bring it down to them and just say you don't know how the TV got spoilt suddenly. I think it'll be OK as long as there's no visible cracks or dents on the screen. If you tell them its accidental, it may open up the 2001-excuses-not-to-grant-you-warranty argument.
  18. sohck, the zebrano laminate is really very nice. Yes, it would've given your room a more dramatic yet cosy feel. I had shortlisted pergo's zebrano, but now decided to get real parquet instead.
  19. I usually get my curtain-related stuff from Jimmy Textiles at Joo Chiat Complex. They now have a store at Tg Katong Complex too. (The old Yokoso, opposite Lion City Hotel and City Plaza)
  20. Storm, when you buy did they give you any option for extended warranty? Maybe that might help for more assurance.
  21. Yeah I told him oredi. I'll only be doing for bedrooms and doing overlay. So he'll revise the hacking costs to only hack skirting and patch for the bedrooms only. Hey, thanks for all your help and advice New. Really appreciate it.
  22. Ah Ok, thanks for clarifying. So this Mr Gan is the labour person that Hauhau specifies in their quote, or a separate guy? So since he works with Yeak, shall I just ask Yeak to arrange with him to install and just get the parquet materials from Susan? Sorry ar, just wanted to make sure so I don't cock up...
  23. BD, for home furnishing didn't really see much. But if you're looking to perhaps find stuff to decorate with, there's alot of those laquer ware e.g. plates, vases, table runners etc. that's quite readily available all over the place. Food at HCM's not bad too. Sorry, but I didn't catch the names of the places I went though, cos' we were just brought around by our Vietnamese hosts.
  24. Heya neighbour Beany, Good progress there with the renovation works! The workers sure work pretty fast and efficiently. Yep, for our side the evening sun brings a new dimension to 'house warming' on a daily basis! For my side, I get both direct sun in the morning, afternoons and evenings. Mornings is good cos' it means good drying for the clothes. But afternoons and evenings turn the entire living area and 1 room into a furnace. For us, we also get the latent heat stored by the corridor walls and our walls so its a double whammy. I guess the solar films would help but its quite pricey eh? Curtains would also be necessary to cater for the 430pm to sunset timing on clear, hot days when the sun shines direct. Another thing I guess, if you come back from work after 7pm, then it won't take too long to cool down if you've got a ceiling fan. For us, after living for years, we've kinda gotten used to the heat.
