  1. All retailers will have to mark up 100% whether they have a factory or not to cover operating expenses such as warehousing delivery, rentals and salaries. Having a factory is not necessary a good thing, a retailer without a factory can simply buy from a cheaper supplier when costs go up at a certain location. Companies with factories will have to live with higher costs, for example Cellini has a factory in Malaysia, they cannot buy from China or Vietnam where costs are much lower. In fact, fashion retailers mark up 200%-300%, that's how retail works. My opinion is to buy what you can afford and not worry about getting the cheapest price because not matter what price you pay there will always be someone who can get a better price.
  2. Don't mean to by rude but I think Furniture Club, Castilla Design and Species are overpriced because mostly China and Malaysia products. OM, Cellini, Lorenzo are actually better and yet cheaper. But that's just my opinion.
  3. It is very hard to tell but reborn leather tends to feel like synthetic leather. Reborn leather is made from real leather that is ground up and recombine with a glue of some sort, the patterns are then imprinted on it. Therefore it cannot take weight very well.
  4. Hi Fatmian, Don't feel cheated, IKEA's whole business is about keeping costs down so that all of us can enjoy low prices. But thanks for letting us all know about the storage charges.
  5. There's actually recycled leather in the market right now. It is called reborn leather. It is good for upholstering furniture such as tables and consoles but should not be used in sofas. Hope this helps.
  6. Do you have any particular factory in mind?
  7. Go to Courts Megastore, they have an extensive range of Sealy and Simmons, prices start from less than 1K.
  8. Don't worry different mattress because the Orthopedic Care model is only about 4 years old. Also, if you really want to know, this is not a real pocket coil mattress, it is just a normal spring mattress with material covering the springs. In fact, there isn't a single individually pocketed coil mattress in the Singapore market that retails for less than 1K. Look out for things that say clipped pocket coil. Means not the real thing.
  9. Let me tell you about the low end of the market Lorenzo, Cellini and Star Furniture are manufacturers so their products will never be found in HDB stores. Star includes Mondi, Lucano and Zen Tradition. Novena, OM, Nova and Furniture Club are importers, you will never find their products in HDB stores. HDB stores get their products from wholesalers like ES furniture, Hee Tat, SCH and so on. In other words, you end up paying a middleman. To sell super cheap products in a HDB store, the store must get very cheap items from wholesalers and to make products very cheap wholesalers will have to cut corners. In other words, if you find something that looks like something you see in say Mondi, Lorenzo, OM, Cellini in a furniture store it will have to be a copy and most of the time it will be an inferior copy. But sometimes you will find the same products in HDB store for companies like Morris, Mr. Deco because they get the products from wholesalers.
  10. Actually, the HDB shops are not really cheaper, they just sell inferior products. They get all their products from wholesalers and then just mark up. The really cheap products are just really lousy products. You are better shopping at a proper store if you can afford it.
  11. This brand is made in China, the quality is decent but the retailer that sells it tries to sell it at a very high price, I recommend you negotiate aggressively, otherwise you will be overcharged.
  12. You could try the following stores, they do imported stuff, may not have the actual item but should find other good looking stuff: Space, Lifestorey, XZQT, Xtra, Modliving and Proof Living.

    Cellini

Cellini is a very good furniture company but I suggest you buy a mattress from one of the more established brands.
  14. OMAZZ is a Thai brand, created by a very smart Thai businessman.
  15. This looks like something from GFA, but I don't think they are still in business.
  16. Don't mean to be rude but Hilker is China-made, quality so-so. I would definitely go for Lorenzo and Cellini for good value-for-money.
  17. At least $5000 for a 3-seater. Prices can go up to $100,000 for a branded sofa like a Minotti or B&B Italia. Places to go to get Genuine article as follows: Space Modliving Lifestorey Qsquare (Marquis) XZQT Poltrona Frau Proof Living Monticello Xtra I can almost guarantee you that anything below $5000 is not made in Italy, if you want to be sure make sure it is state on the order. Hopes the above helps.
  18. If you only have to pay upon delivery, I don't see how it can hurt but I saw the prices not exactly cheaper than what you can get in a store. If you in the market for a cheap mattress you are better off going to a HDB furniture store, just be sure to shop a few stores before committing. The website should be used as a reference.
  19. These are digital prints. You can go to a large format printer to get it done.
  20. Well Star manufactures their own bedroom sets so unlikely to find their stuff in AMK shop. But really depends on needs, if you only need the set to last a short time the HDB stuff is old fashioned but cheap.
  21. Mode Studio is Red Apple, I suggest you read the thread before you decide. Lush is OK nice stuff but pricey for Made in China.
  22. Kim Hwee Sofa, 6280 1208 call them they will come and measure.
  23. Anything under $500 is going to be seriously bad and will fall apart in 6 months. I suggest you go to Star Furniture or Courts and spend slight over 1K and get something that will last a few year.
