  2. you dun need to buy from Bearlyn mah... just borrow lor hahaha
  3. LOL... no "little" addition as yet in fact... now if i were to furnish the common room, it's most prob for our curious parents who may wanna stay there when they visit us my hubby said the common room needs to have "elderly friendly" features in mind... LOL what you wanna DIY?
  4. This offer is on at least for 2010 only found out when we happened to there 2 months back on a Tuesday... we also didn't know for the past 9 months of 2010 though we frequent Ikea so much!
  5. LOL what kind of new addition? well, still gonna get some small stuff here and there... and i still got one whole room that is completely unfurnished... hmmm dunno what to do with it yet haha as houseowners, i guess we normally get uncomfortable seeing nothing much gets done towards the end of the reno, especially in comparison with the initial fury of events when reno starts... in any case, now it's SO MUCH better than when you took over the house... haha~
  6. Yo... the Orange backsplash and the turtoise wall are really lovely! Great choice of colour~! LOL that's why we always like to visit Ikea on Tuesdays - Meatball Day - $4 only
  7. "zha choi" = Sichuan cabbage (the slightly spicy type?) how about teriyaki source? yum yum....
  8. i mean, you should know your own income best, rite? then why is it that your understanding of "combined income" is different from the officer? if your income is < 8k, it's less than <8k. HDB officer won't be able to make it more than 8k... just to highlight there is a chance that HDB officer calculated wrongly... cos this was what happened to me... so they kept rejecting our application (and subsequent appeal) of HLE. i appealed and appealed and complained to MP etc... took me 6 months to finally get my HLE. but i made sure i got a HLE before looking for a flat....
  9. Great thread~ was thinking of something like this will be good - we can share dinner ideas with each other... i often find the most difficult thing for cooking dinner is thinking of what to cook! I'm not cooking tonite... but i can share what I cooked yesterday but hor mine is just simple dish for simple dinner only... not as elaborate as yours Tom Yam Chicken Ingredient: Chicken thigh -> cut into chunks Small red onions spring onion -> cut into small sections of ~3mm length chili padi -> 1 will do. cut into small pieces Garlic Tomato Tom Yam Paste salt, corn starch, sesame oil, white pepper -> to marinate the chicken. How to make: Very simple... after marinating the chicken meat for ~15 mins, throw them into a wok and simmer at low heat. Mix tom yam paste with some water and throw into the wok as well, and then throw the garlic, tomato, spring onion and chili padi one by one and poach the chicken until cooked... within 5 mins... can serve liao
  10. Hi~! just realised that i haven't logged on for so long... LOL have been really busy with work lately, and my blogging of kitchen is just halfway through~ okie, shall continue from where i left off.... The Dish Drainer Story: Why I chose that $9.90 Dish Drainer Many pple have talked about how poor-quality ikea things are, and how good the Welmi ("chicken" brand) kitchen utensils are... All these are well documented in Renotalk. I've walked past Song-Cho many times and admired the nice but expensive Welmi stuff... But after some thinking, it dawned to me that since this is my first home, i probably won't know what are my exact requirements until i started living in it for a long enough period of time... Then it may be unwise to invest lots of $$ in really good stuff that doesn't suit your need afterall.... So I decided to get this ikea dish drainer... only $9.90. If i dun like it, i can throw away without any heart pain for the price of one similar Welmi dish drainer, i can buy ~20 of this ikea dish drainers..... Noob Lesson 5: Sometimes, getting the best things may not be the best, if you don't know what you want.
  11. how come your officer said the calculated amount cannot disclose? when they reject your application of HLE, they will tell you that it's rejected becos your income is $8xxx, which is over $8k... some letter with standard format... and... erm shouldn't you know your own combined income better than the HDB officer? sorry i'm confused.... i've appealed before, it took me a long time... but i heard that if it's just a few dollars, shouldn't be a big problem.
  12. i think the resale levy is: 1st time: took CPF grant 2nd time: buy direct from HDB like what friends78 mentioned above
  13. hey long time no talk! so when can your ID handover the house to you? hmmm for Nova, there are some very bad comments in RT, documented in one thread... but my friend just recently got all her furniture from there and it was ok, hope yours will be fine like hers haha yea daddy is always the best... my daddy gave me a lot of help and ideas during my reno too
  14. fyi.... the charge is 6% of the cost of the item(s) to be assembled
  15. if i remember correctly, most of those slim top-load washers from continental brands (like Thomson, Brandt, Whirlpool..) are actually same as front load, just that one opens on top, one opens sideway. they are not the same as those Japanese/Korean top load (different mechanism). so cannot say all top load are not good... if it's those slim type i mentioned above, it's the same as front load.
  16. wah bro you finally update... last we heard was about tiling and now, at painting stage liao~ so how was the tiles? any photos?
  17. hey hope that your wife is getting better... rest more and take care~ 2 more week!

  19. that's bad... i think they should really improve on their quality control! haha now when my hubby sees me reading those Courts flyers sent to home mail box, he will go "what?? don't you dare to buy things from them again??? " hahaha...

  22. my hubby tried the ultrasonic type before, but it was for mosquitoes, not cockroaches... he said not very useful leh. and if you are very sensitive to sound, you may hear a constant, faint humming sound in the background (this could be brand dependent, not sure...)
