  1. If you forcefully hack a load bearing wall or structural wall, first it will de-value your flat, your neighbors might sue you in court for causing their flat to de-value or worst cannot sell, the ah neh that hack it will be deport back to bangala land and you will be fine beyond your imagination.
  2. Can share how much pfr they quoted you after the 40% discount?
  3. Here is another cheap solution to your noise problem, put on a pair of ear plug when you bath/shower at night, can block out the grinding sound and also your neighbors scolding and cursing.
  4. paiseh, i think only the gas pipe done by city gas is copper. stainless steel can be use but it all depend on the plumber skill, lousy one will have a lot of headache down the road.
  5. paiseh... photo easier to understand mah.
  6. of cos! copper is softer metal, can bend, twist and turn with ease... no need to use joint so less chances to leak.
  7. Depend on the plumber skill... lousy one have higher chance of leaking. If you use copper pipe with no joint conceal in wall, there is no chance of leak.
  8. ya lor... this type of contractors usually cannot do large scale project, especially tender type... sure pay penalty until bankrupt. Before confirming your job, everything also can do; after accepting your deposit, everything has to add money then can do. Sometimes even you pay them extra they also dont want to do. I just got off the phone with my main con, i want to add hidden blum drawer with cutlery tray at both of the 450mm side of the 1800mm cooking counter.
  9. Hidden cable management cum console Wall cut by machinery instead of hack by sledge hammer
  10. 1 & 2. Don't know since when (i guess since the time copper material became very expensive) most of the plumbers start to use stainless steel pipe for water and proceed to bend the pipe as it is a copper pipe. Usually unless customer request stainless steel pipe, the plumbing sub con doing my place will only run copper pipe as copper is a softer metal that can bend and twist to any angle and has less joints, unlike stainless steel pipe when bend the bending portion will narrow so to counter that problem, they tend to use bigger pipe and thus produce noise when water pressure is not strong enough. 3. What a lousy plumber! You didnt check his workmanship? If i were you, i'll get them to redo or else they dont get pay. 4. If the plumber is a sub con engage by your main con, get the main con to ask him to patch up the hole.
  11. Try to "teah" your contractor into changing the crack tile. Or bribe him and his tiler over a dinner and 1, 2 crate of beers. Worst case scenario, try stomp your feet and cry in front of him.
  12. How comes got that ledge but boh run conceal piping for you, even if that ledge belong to hdb, can construct a another ledge using brick so the 2 stainless steel piping can be concealed. The coordination is not easy for your main con, must get tiler to work with plumber to hack the space in the brick for piping, then after the piping are laid, the tiler will seal up with tiles. Normal contractor may not be willing to do this type of coordination for you, usually only ID will suggest, of cos with higher reno quote.
  13. Waa... very nice... also very expensive. Dont show the picture to ID, or else you will see all of them carrying a piece of stone in their hand.
  14. My kitchen floor uses 300 X 300 while my kitchen wall uses 600 X 300. If you stand facing the kitchen window, the tiles on the left and right wall are lay horizontally across the left wall, wall on top and under the kitchen window and right wall. The floor tiles are align 2 tiles with 1 wall tile, the alignment is swee swee; the only part not align is near the edge, either on the left side or right side. Sometimes not very obvious cos there are break in the view as the cabinets or appliances can cover the misalignment.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes it is really pissed me off when Platinum Member start coming to attack me out of nowhere. I dont wish to start a t-blog and chit chat sing song to get to Gold Member status. I prefer to offer suggestion or advise that people can use in real life, not bake cake in day dream. Most likely i'll do a report card type of t-blog showing my reno process, however i will not reveal my ex partner or our sub con(s) as they were pull from big project to do my little flat. Normally to hack down the wall, bangala(s) with sledge hammer were use; it came quite a surprise that several of my walls were cut using machinery to open up as doorways, the edge were straight, clean cut with minimum patch up. Even the hidden cable management console in my bedroom wall was cut using machinery; the 600mm X 600mm square hole in the wall has straight edges.
  16. You can see my other comments in the links you provided. If you want to see a real life one, i can arrange you to view my current place; it is easier to explain by looking at mine. Drop me a PM with your contact and a picture of yourself, cos i dont wish to entertain ID or other contractor.
  17. Hello NeoBY, painted your new place yet? The casement will be swee swee after painted over.
  18. I was previously in this industries... although i left this biz, i still got contacts; this is the same reason i can use the best material at less than half the price other IDs quoted me. My ex-partner back then is still in the biz but no longer accepting home renovation. They now renovate operating theaters for hospital, laboratories in university. All the sub con(s) doing my 3 room flat are his men and my ex sub con(s)! Maybe i'll do my own tblog, maybe not... still thinking about it.
  19. By right all installers should be certified with certification and charge a fortune to drill hole professionally; by left he maybe a newbie or he is a lazy bum that just want to quickly get the job done. The "thing" you dad adjust on his drill is to switch between hammer action and non-hammer action. If installers forgot about this trick, at most you will see 1 broken tile from each sub-contractor.
  20. NeoBY... hope you know that there is 2 type of tiles, ceramic and homogeneous. The former is easily crack or chip off, the color is different from back and front; the later is harder, it still can crack but chip off is not so obvious as it is same color from back to front. Ask the contractor nicely to replace the crack ones. Also ask the sub con that installing the accessories not to use non-hammer drill to create the hole on tile then switch to hammer drill to drill into the cement layer. This will prevent tile from cracking.
  21. Maybe got hollow-ness in cement beneath the tile OR the tile is too hard, if forcefully hammered drill can cause it to crack.
  22. Not "all" tilers/carpenters/plumbers are lazy... just talk to your main con &/or ID. Btw, your place jin swee.
  23. Can do... the cha bo must be chio, sexy, good drinker and must roll up her sleeve to mop, sweep and scrub in case the place is dirty and fail her QC.
  24. Condition is good... if the new owner dont like it, will still be hack.
